Itâs National Tell A Fairy Tale Day! đ§ââď¸ Although most fairy tales as we know them today have been neutered by Disney, their original sources are often more malicious than their pixie dust parodies would imply. For example:
â
đ The Seven Dwarves were based on the child miners of a copper mine owned by a 16th century German count.
đ¨Pinocchio smashed Jiminy Cricket to death with a hammer in a fit of rage.
đ Pigeons pecked out the eyes of Cinderellaâs stepsisters when they tried to steal her suitor prince.
Instead of stealing Arielleâs voice, Ursula the sea witch cut out her tongue to keep her from speaking and becoming fully human â and Arielle didnât get her happily-ever-after.
â
And, of course, we canât forget the root word of this holiday, fairy, and how declawed most traditional fairy lore stories have become. Many folks well-versed in their history would insist that the fae arenât all cute, whimsical creatures that shimmer with benevolence and grant wishes; for example, Gwyn ap Nudd, a Welsh fairy king, cut out his enemyâs heart after killing him in battle â and forced the enemyâs son to eat it. (For more Welsh weirdness, have a listen to our recent series on Heol Fanog!)
â
Perhaps better known in the fairy realm is the changeling: the uncanny valley replacement for a person (usually a baby) stolen by the fae out of envy, spite, or curiosity. While that in itself is unnerving, the supposed test for a changeling is to threaten the baby with a red hot poker â the impostor baby would supposedly flee out of self-preservation.
â
While modern fairy tales are of the vanilla variety, we tip our hats to the dark origins behind the cautionary stories that taught us not everything that glitters is gold. What fairy tales will you tell today?

2. Becca Rich, modern day, with Bill Rich's paintings
This week we return to Wales, joining a whole crew of characters as they attempt to help Bill and Liz Rich suss out the sources of the energetic disturbances at Heol Fanog. The strangeness factor keeps ratcheting up at this bucolic home, including the appearance of alarming apparitions and an increasingly negative energy affecting the whole family. God enters the chat after a dark secret from Billâs past and the farmlandâs ancient history lead this bewildered family to the Church for help.
Can prayers help them restore the peace to their home, or will the primordial power of the Welsh highlands hold sway? Find out on Tuesday, February 6th, as we see how things pan out for the Rich Family in Heol Fanog (Part Two)!
1. Billâs art began to take on a darker tone as the years progressed at Heol Fanog, reflecting the familyâs suspicion that they werenât alone in the homeâŚ
2. âŚand some paintings were downright disturbing, such as this depiction of a co**se being consumed by rodents.
3. Liz, baby Rebecca, and Baptist minister Dave Holmwood, around 1991.
4. Liz, baby Tomas, and Bill in the later years at Heol Fanog.
5. A Daily Telegraph article about the Rich familyâs experience, from 1996 (the year they left Heol Fanog).

Weeeeeâre baaaaack â and weâre kicking off 2024 by bringing you an unnerving narrative straight from the rolling, idyllic hills of South Wales in the UK: Heol Fanog (Part One) - God Quit His Job!
From 1989 to 1996, Bill and Liz Rich and their three children lived on an isolated farm known as Heol Fanog, tucked into the shadows of the Brecon Beacons mountain range. Their time during those seven years was fraught with a truly confounding procession of smells, sounds, and electrical anomalies â just to scratch the surface.
As these experiences escalated, Bill and Liz delved into the histories and mysteries of Heol Fanog with the help of local lore and a tag team of clerical and metaphysical investigators. In doing so, the Riches questioned their future at Heol Fanog â and looked to the past for possible explanationsâŚ

68 years ago today, near the communities of Kelly and Hopkinsville, KY, a large family gathering would bear witness to an "alien invasion".
At about three-and-a-half feet tall, with an oversized head, arms extended almost to the ground, hands with talons, big yellow eyes, and a body that gave off an eerie shimmer as if it was "made of metal", multiple of these creatures would terrorize the family throughout the night causing a shootout with the otherworldly beings and a trip to the nearest police station to describe what had happened.
Project Blue Book had investigated the case but documents suggest that the case was never properly pursued. However, around a year later, the Center for UFO Studies (CUFOS), founded by Dr J. Allen Hynek, would commence a thorough investigation on the matter and publish their findings decades later.
No promising evidence of extraterrestrials at the farmhouse has ever been found, leading to the idea of a hoax, but you can't dismiss the eyewitness accounts. TFR, as well as many other people, communities, and organizations, continue to hold out for this case to be an official stamp of an extraterrestrial visit đ˝

So today I visited the Old Bethel Cemetery near where I grew up. Headstones range from the mid to late 1800s and early 1900s. Iâve been to this cemetery plenty of times in the past, itâs allegedly haunted with numerous reports coming out of it from visitors and paranormal investigating teams alike. Recently, however, it was brought to my attention by a friend of mine about this âTree Doorâ basically just a segment of tree that looks similar to a door with reports that, if you knock, sometimes youâll hear knocking back. So I went up today after I got off work and spent a good 10-15 mins walking around the cemetery and just checking it out before I found the right tree, which was noted in Zodiac Paranormal Investigations news article about the cemetery. The entire time I was there, I didnât hear any sounds of construction/hammering or knocking of any kind. Once I found the tree, I decided to give it a shot, really didnât think much of it, but figured what the hell, pulled out my phone to take a video just to have a funny post for the podcastâs Instagram of trying a local tale. Now as I said, note while Iâm talking at the beginning, thereâs no sound of hammering or anything coming anywhere around me. As soon, AS SOON as I finish knocking, what sounds like hammering in the distance is heard (I still say construction but really, who hammers just a couple times and never again) but what really gets me is the two sets of soft knocks that happen afterwards. Thereâs a set of soft knocking that can be heard as Iâm talking about the hammering, and can be heard right before I say âthat was kinda weirdâ and then the second set is heard right before I speak again. I really donât know what to make of it, just a really bizarrely timed coincidence? Maybe (probably) but the fact that the tree has definitely disturbed the resting place of the one buried here (headstone is from 1932) and has clearly been slightly moved by the tree over the years,
