New Orleans Saints and USC’s former star RB Reggie Bush has just been reinstated into the Heisman Trust after they “considered the enormous changes in college athletics”, via which pretty much means they are tired of the backlash from excluding Reggie Bush for multiple years after NIL (Name, Image and Likeness) laws have been passed, enabling collegiate athletes to partake in profiteering of the NCAA market.
Reggie Bush previously surrendered his Heisman Trophy in 2010, after he was investigated for receiving financial benefits and a vehicle that rendered him ineligible for the 2004 season with USC.
Former star QB, and fellow Heisman Trophy recipient, Johnny Manziel, has been on the record expressing his displeasure about the exclusion of Bush following the NIL being implemented, and stated on that he intended to boycott all gatherings involving the Trust until Bush’s reinstatement.
It’s good to see Reggie Bush reinstated as the 2005 Heisman Trophy winner! Hopefully, this is just one step in mending the damage caused by the defamation of college athletes who received benefits for their contributions to the Multibillion dollar empire that is the NCAA, when they were formerly expected to sustain themselves on a scholarship and per diem for away games.
