Every time I talk about a plan, it never materializes. I'm as if I've already let go of the idea, or I'm waiting for someone else to jump onboard. It could be a lack of motivation or suffering from imposter syndrome—I'll always find an excuse.
I recently started listening to an audiobook called the 5 second rule.
It's basically the idea of acting on a thought within 5 seconds otherwise your brain will inevitably trick you into not doing it—simple as that.
The author, Mel Robbins, describes how we often get caught up in the minutiae of life and forget about our big dreams. She calls this “the trap”: when we make small decisions that are easy to rationalize, but ultimately don't move us toward our goals.
She argues that if we act quickly on our ideas instead of overthinking them, we'll make progress toward our goals while avoiding self-doubt and other distractions along the way.
In other words: If you have an idea for something you want to do or achieve, don't think too much about it! Just take action right away!
