Following a police operation targeting alleged enablers of severe and organised crime, six individuals from Bedford have been charged.

The accusations come in the wake of Operation Costello, a Bedfordshire Police operation that saw more than 100 officers executing search warrants at nine residences throughout Bedford earlier this week.

Six of the nine guys who were arrested have now been charged.

Hari Pal, 57, of Avon Drive; Jerome Burnell, 54, of Goldington Green; Sunil Mal, 35, of Pentland Rise, and Giuseppe Graziano, 34, from Brickhill, were charged with encouraging the commission of an offence believing it will be committed and proceeds of crime offences.

Mal and Pal were also charged with possession with intent to supply cannabis.

Ylli Bezati, 46, of Meadway, was charged with cannabis production and possession with intent to supply a Class B drug.

Erjon Bezati, 33, of Stancliffe Road, was charged with fraud and offences linked to false identity documents.

According to authorities, a woman who perished in an explosion at a residential building is thought to have sparked the fire herself.
The explosion on July 4th destroyed more than 20 apartments in the three-story Redwood Grove building in Bedford, and a large portion of the roof of the structure fell.
Reena James, a resident who died, is thought by police to have broken into another apartment, doused it with flammable material, and then set it on fire.
The 42-year-old was "solely accountable," according to Ch Supt John Murphy.
Three further individuals were sent to the hospital, but no one else was killed.
About 50 households needed to find alternative housing.
