We began 2020 with the exciting task of making a video for and got a glimpse inside his brilliant mind. He’s in the running for Best Photographer in this year’s “Best of Las Vegas Awards” - you can (and should) put in a vote for him every day until September 30th. This talented guy is keeping an old-school art form alive in an amazing way.

We're casting for an exciting new short film! Email rachel@desertcactusfilms.com if you're interested!

Seeing as it’s right now, here’s a comparison between the animatics and the finished version of Violent Water. Animatics are essentially moving storyboards meant to convey the timing and movement of each shot. With music videos, they’re especially important, and can serve as an actual blueprint for the final edit.

The sailors in “Violent Water” were all shot separately, using the same lighting and camera angle, and then composited together afterwards. This allowed us time to try different visual gags and prop work for each actor.

In “Noose”, all the names on the tombstones pay tribute to classic rock and country artists. The final epitaph honors Ricky Nelson, who many accredit (along with his father) with creating the first music video.

It aired on April 5th, 1961 at the end of an episode of "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet", featuring Ricky performing his hit "Travelin' Man", intercut with travelogue footage. It was an attempt to fit another song into the episode that was unrelated to the story, but could still feature the rising teen idol.

Ricky Nelson died in a plane crash in 1985 during his “Comeback tour”. He was 45 years old.

In “Violent Water”, the model of the battleship Voltaire was constructed of more than 500 pieces and took over 50 hours to assemble. The producer put it together herself. The director puppeted the ship using scotch tape around his fingers.

The actual Voltaire was involved in the Battle of Antivari on August 16th, 1914, at the start of WW1.

The story of “Violent Water” takes place shortly after. They’re low on supplies and forced to head back to Malta. As the ship makes it’s way south through the Adriatic Sea, they find themselves caught in a terrible storm...
