Celebrity book clubs. 📚 Whether you love them, hate them, or are indifferent about them, every celeb and their cousin seems to have their own book club nowadays! Getting a big name's stamp of approval on a book can help smaller authors sell more copies, but with the rise of BookTok and the growth of the online reading community, do people still care about what the ~elite~ are reading? 🤷‍♀️

In today's episode, Kelly and Nikki take a quiz to see which celebrity book club they would most likely enjoy taking part in and discuss the age old question: are these celebrities actually reading all of these books? 🧐

'Burn. It. Down.'

In today's episode, we are going all in on one of the most highly anticipated books of the year, "Iron Flame" by Rebecca Yarros. 🔥🐉

Back in May, we had the pleasure of sitting down to speak with Rebecca Yarros about "Fourth Wing", her writing process, and more, so we knew we had to share our thoughts on the second book in The Empyrean series as soon as we finished reading it.

Readers and listeners be warned... there be spoilers ahead! 🫣

Today's episode features the third and penultimate book in the original Twilight saga, 'Eclipse' by Stephenie Meyer. 🌑🩸

While Nikki and Kelly still decide whether to pledge their allegiance to Edward or Jacob, they also ask all the hard-hitting questions such as what happens when Bella gets her period? Would Jacob and Bella have worked out if the Cullens had never moved to Forks? And just how exactly do vampire pen*ses work?!

07/09/2023

Today's episode kicks off the latest BYOB series... Stephenie Meyer's Twilight Saga!! ✨🌛🩸

When 'Twilight' was introduced to the world back in 2005, it was a game changer for supernatural romance and YA fantasy. Having inspired countless books since its first publication, this series took over the world and, later on, movie theatres.

This series tends to get a bad wrap, but is it warranted? Join Nikki and Kelly as they revisit a childhood favourite, spend some time with Bella and the Cullens in Forks, Washington, and discuss one of today's most pressing matters: Team Edward ✨🧛‍♂️, or Team Jacob 🌕🐺?

'Traduttore, traditore: An act of translation is always an act of betrayal.'

Today, the BYOB ladies are joined by Tilly to discuss #1 New York Times bestselling author R.F. Kuang's 'Babel: An Arcane History'. Having already read and loved 'The Poppy War' back in season 1, the ladies knew they needed to meet up again to chat about one of her latest works.

Set in the 1800s before the onset of what would later be known as the O***m War, 'Babel: An Arcane History' follows Robin, a young man taken from Canton by the British Professor Lovell, after his family dies of Cholera. As Professor Lovell's ward, Robin must learn Latin, Ancient Greek, and Chinese to prepare him for the day he will enroll in Oxford University’s prestigious Royal Institute of Translation— Babel.

This epic saga is one you won't want to miss. So, pour yourself a drink (or two) and pull up a chair as we learn about the silver trade, o***m, and the 'necessity of violence'.

Horses and other animals not only obey, but listen to her words. Although Daine has this special connection with the natural world around her, she will have to learn to trust the humans around her before she can fully understand her past and her powers.

Will Ana finally sign the contract, or will she violate her NDA with Christian? 🤐 Will anyone actually get any work done at their job, or will we be subject to more benign emails?? 😫 And, the question we all want the answer to: will Christian finally let Ana touch him??? There's only one way to find out... 😏

In the first episode of this two-part mini-series, Nikki and Kelly deep dive into the original Fifty Shades trilogy!

Not many books and their authors shake up the publishing industry quite like E.L. James did with her internationally bestselling erotica, "Fifty Shades of Grey". Inspired by the YA modern classic "Twilight" by Stephenie Meyer, this book opened the door to other lesser known B**M romances to become mainstream. Whether you loved it, hated it, or were indifferent to it, when this book was first published in 2011, you knew of it!

Make yourself a weak, black Twinings English Breakfast tea like Anastasia, or pour yourself a more sophisticated glass of chilled Sancerre like Christian and enjoy this wild ride of an episode, available now wherever you enjoy podcasts. Cheers!🥂

25/05/2023

In today's special episode, we’re dishing on our latest bookish experiment... Redacted Reads!

Each BYOB host was tasked with gifting the other a book and redacting all information that could give the reader clues as to which book it was. That's right; the reader has no idea what the book is called, who wrote the book, or even what genre the book falls under!

Was their experiment a success or a devastating failure? Will these two bookish besties remain bookish besties, or will they end up DNF-ing their Redacted Read (and friendship)? Tune in to find out!

11/05/2023

Today, the BYOB ladies are joined by Tilly to discuss #1 New York Times bestselling author Emily Henry's 'Beach Read', which happens to be Nikki and Kelly's favourite Emily Henry book. 🥰

Don't be fooled by the title! While this hilarious, heartwarming, and sometimes melancholy book does in fact take place by a beach, we feel that the book is best enjoyed snuggled up with a cozy blanket and a warm, comforting drink. Cheers!

But what Libby doesn't know is that she'll also be inheriting her family's home- the same home where twenty-five years ago a baby was found happily sitting in her crib while downstairs three dead bodies, all dressed in black, were found next to a hastily scrawled note. If you were curious about what BYOB will be reading throughout season 3, look no further! Here’s the scoop on what Nikki and Kelly (and maybe a surprise guest or two…!) have already read and *will* be reading in the episodes to come. 📚✨

In the second mini-series, BYOB is joined by Tilly as the ladies each buddy read a childhood favourite! Can you guess which treasured book belongs to which reader? 😉

BYOB’s TBR also includes something brand new: Redacted Reads! Join Nikki and Kelly as they select a mysterious book for the other to read. The recipient must read the book with no knowledge as to what the book is, who it’s by, or what it’s about because, you’ve guessed it, all crucial identifying information has been ~*redacted~*…

Season 3 features one more mini-series: Stephenie Meyer’s ‘Twilight’ saga!🍎 Along with revisiting a seminal paranormal romance of their youths, Nikki and Kelly have some surprises coming your way- including a spooky Hallowe’en special with a guest or two! 🎃 They will also be delving back into the wondrous works of Madeline Miller with her mythological re-telling, ‘Circe’. ✨
