The museum, a vital part of the Smritivan Earthquake Memorial masterplan, commemorates the 2001 Bhuj earthquake and introduces visitors to the rich heritage, culture, crafts, villages, and wildlife sanctuaries of the Bhuj and Kutch region.

The aim was to create not just a museum but a communal space for festivals and gatherings, in line with their commitment to enhancing civic life through architecture.

This philosophy also guided the design of the Smritivan memorial, which includes a green park for the city.

The museum's galleries display the diverse crafts and skills of the Kutch region. The building follows the contours of the steep hill, respecting its cultural significance and echoing the fort wall's design. The natural, meandering ascent reflects the architects belief in the importance of walking to connect with the environment. The central spine serves as a veranda for pausing and enjoying the landscape, with a tensile structure providing soft illumination, creating a civic space when galleries are closed. Rooftop gardens change with the seasons, marking time and hosting temporary exhibits and performances for reflection.

The museum is designed for gradual growth, respecting the site's character with modular galleries and a central spine. It embodies Bhuj's history, offering visitors a fresh experience with each visit.

"Spending a weekend at Tipai, a Wildlife Luxuries retreat, was like immersing myself in the wilderness. Tipai – the wildlife resort hasn’t incorporated nature into its structure but has integrated itself into nature; honouring the fact that it belongs to the animals and nature first, and to man next. At first glance, I thought I was entering a forest with unruly trees, and imminent sounds of birds and insects — as if they were introducing themselves to me."

This well-thought-out culinary journey allowed me to relish every bite while immersing myself in the rich history of South Indian food. What made this experience truly exceptional was the fact that it wasn’t an overwhelming, gigantic thali. Instead, it was thoughtfully designed to enable me (and other guests of the restaurant) to savor each element in moderation, ensuring that I could fully appreciate the authenticity of a South Indian meal.

It was believed that, during Halloween, the world of the gods became visible to humans, resulting in supernatural mischief.

Some made offerings of food and sweets to the gods, while others disguised themselves with things like animal heads and hides to make themselves appear to be one of the roaming spirits.

Clued up in their costumes, the villagers would frequently pull practical jokes on each other, accusing the spirits of the mischief.

Cover-ups and masks started to be perceived as ways to get away with crimes. That has persisted during Halloween's development.

In the eleventh century, Christianity declared October 31 to be a festival in an attempt to appropriate pagan festivities. In fact, "All Hallows Eve," or the day before All Saints' Day (November 1), is where the name "Halloween" originates.🎃

Designed as and deemed to be more than just a restaurant, the restaurant is an architectural masterpiece that’s built inside a restored mansion that dates back to 1901. Walking into the space on a warm October evening, I had a chance to view the latest art exhibit on display at the restaurant. The moment I stepped inside, I was welcomed by a myriad of art and a visual representation of South India’s vibrant culture. Celebrating Goan art and heritage, ‘Over a Hundred Summers’ is put together by Samira Sheth of Work of Art, Goa, featuring Dr. Subodh Kerkar, Shripad Gurav, Siddharth Kerkar and photographer Ulka Chauhan.

The Mysore Palace is a fine example of Indo-Saracenic architecture that intermingles Hindu, Mughal, Rajput and Gothic architectural styles. Towering over the central arch is a sculpture of the goddess of wealth and abundance - Gajalakshmi - who stands tall alongside her elephants. A number of ceremonial meeting halls of the royal court, two durbar halls, courtyards, gardens and buildings make up this larger than life palace. A feeling of grandeur immediately envelopes you as you walk inside, and you can’t help but wonder how life must have been like, during the reigns of the Wodeyar dynasty who were the rulers of Mysore between 1399-1950.

Legend has it that Yaduraya Wodeyar, the premier ruler of the Mysore dynasty, had a palace built in the Puragiri or the old fort during his rule. That palace, which was destroyed and reconstructed many a times over the last 600 years, is believed to be the predecessor of the Mysore Palace.

Imagine stepping into a world where the realms of tradition and contemporary life entwine effortlessly, where art becomes a portal to reconnect with the essence of being. Unfolding this captivating narrative through her paintings is Indian artist Priyanka Aelay (.aelay)

At the heart of Aelay’s work lies the essence of folk art - themes and styles of Rajput, Pahadi and Mughal miniature and portraiture art find representations in her canvases, but with a contemporary twist that is woven seamlessly into the fabric of tradition. After a meticulous restoration process initiated by Officine Panerai in 2006, the Eilean now symbolises the brand’s maritime heritage and its commitment to heritage preservation. It serves as an apt personification of Panerai’s roots and their enduring relationship with the ocean, echoing back to the brand’s beginnings with the Italian Navy. Once the Eilean was finally ready to be reintroduced to the world, she traversed the oceans she had in her previous life.

The art of making Kanjivaram sarees is a historic one, more than 400 years ago in the quaint temple town of Kanchipuram is where this art form began. The eponymous town is where artisans discovered weaving thick fabric with gold or silver lace and motifs produced a beautiful outcome. The Kanjivaram saree went on to become the most popular choice of bridal attire in South India. Origins of this type of saree can be further traced back to Hindu mythology as it is said that the silk weavers of Kanchipuram are descendants of sage Markanda, who was known to weave clothes for the celestial beings.

The art form was born after two weaving communities – the Devangas and the Saligars migrated to Kanchipuram from Andhra Pradesh.

"As per figures on boxofficeindia.com, “Baahubali’s” gross cumulative earnings were Rs 970 cr (Rs 168.2 cr + 801.6 cr), whereas “Jawaan” is at Rs 1,023 and counting at the time of going to press. What both have in common are directors SS Rajamouli and Atlee, and Southern actors Vijay Sethupathi and Rana Daggubati playing villains, the two-heroine formula, as well as a double role for the lead actor. In one, the father is the savior, and in the other, the son.

However, this is not the first time that the South has won. “Arjun Reddy” became “Kabir Singh” when Sandeep Reddy Vanga helmed the project to bring his smash hit to Bollywood. And now he does it again with “Animal.” Ranbir Kapoor, riding on the success of “Brahmastra” and “TJM,” can only hope to shine brighter with Rashmika Mandanna.

The formula is pretty straightforward now – Southern director, heroine, and villain, a larger-than-life North Indian hero, is equal to a megahit Bollywood film, unless you throw in a “KGF” or “Pushpa” in the mixture.

Before the Shah Rukh Khan-Prabhas clash, there were Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan. What Big B did, Rajinikanth did better (down South), giving it his signature moves. The audience lapped it up." – .

Ace golfer Shiv Kapur explains why golf is not such geeky game after all, as he tees off at the Marriott Bonvoy Golf Tournament 2023.

A British sports survey declared golf as Britains dullest sport when 70% of those surveyed found it “incredibly dull to watch”. However, the same survey admitted that an estimated 60 million people, across 85% of the world, still played it. To understand this dichotomy, we caught up with celebrity golfer Shiv Kapur who enjoys demystifying the game for newbies and sharing pro-tips with those who already know their nine irons from their blades. 28/09/2023

Within the heart of Dadar in Mumbai, the flower market emerged as a poignant symbol of the city’s historical evolution - a place where successive generations of flower vendors have borne witness to the gradual metamorphosis of the city’s urban topography. What once housed stables and cowsheds merely a few decades ago has now yielded to the towering presence of skyscrapers and the intricate web of flyovers.

Inspired by this very flower market, Australian mural artist Fintan Magee’s collaborative piece with the St+art India Foundation pays homage to the fascinating daily cycle that unfolds (from the early-morning arrival of flowers in the warehouse area, their distribution to vendors and artisans crafting intricate garlands) and embodies the enduring resilience of flower vendors who persist amidst the urban landscape’s concrete expanses.
