WHAT IS ? is a global Movement that has quickly gone viral. It is a new expression of an old, deep and renewed wound for many marginalized and devastated communities, and entire nations around the world. to wars and crises that are fueled by false narratives. Narratives that often make victims, the killers - and the killers, the victims. The Movement was launched November 1, 2021 marking the anniversary of a devastating war in Ethiopia. In its telling of the story, much of Western Media spread and fanned false narratives from an armed insurgent group (TPLF) that started the war to violently overthrow the democratically elected Government of Ethiopia. to sabotaging democracies in developing countries.
As more than 100 million people in the Horn of Africa were under terror of a war started by an armed insurgent group, mainstream media, and a coordinated network of pro-TPLF activists using social media falsely claimed that the war was about ethnicity, famine and genocide, at times completely ignoring major data and events. to false narratives that perpetuate stereotypes about Africa and Africans.
