Director/Writer Piata Gardiner-Hoskins and Producer Peata Melbourne in Whangaruru for a location recce for Te Koru Media’s next short film - Te Rākau Atamira.

4-days were spent exploring the whenua and surrounding taiao that inspired Piata’s idea to write the film - including visiting real rākau iri (hanging trees where the deceased were hung in baskets before bones were put in caves).

Disclaimer: tree in photo is NOT a rākau iri…just a beautiful tree.

Te Koru producer, Peata Melbourne, will stand at this year's Te Matatini kapa haka competition tomorrow in Tāmaki Makaurau.

She last stood on the national stage twenty years ago for Ngāti Rangiwewehi, and returns to the roopu and performing alongside her 18-year-old daughter, Āiorangi.

Disrupt has been selected for another overseas festival - the Asian American International Film Festival in Philadelphia.

In October alone, Disrupt will be screening at this festival and the Down Under Festival in Berlin, the Native Spirit Festival in London, the Reel Recovery Festival in Hollywood, LA, and the Show me Shorts Festival across New Zealand.

Disrupt has been chosen to screen at the Rotorua Indigenous Film Festival at the end of this month.

This is the festival that producer, Peata Melbourne, and writer, Aroha Awarau, first pitched the idea of Disrupt at the festival's annual pitching competition in 2018.

This festival is worth going to, to watch Maori and other indigenous films from all around the world and enjoy the wonderful hospitality from Te Arawa filmmakers.

Disrupt will screen as part of the Aotearoa Shorts; Friday 30th September, Reading Cinema 5, Eruera St, 10am.
