Budgam, May 17, KNT: Police have seized the private vehicle of Municipality Committee Chairman and arrested duo including a Councilor after charas was recovered from them.

Police party from police station Charar-e-Sharif made these arrests and seized the vehicle near Exchange Road of Charar-e-Sharif town here in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.

Police sources told news agency KNT that a police party stopped a private Bolero (JK04E-0822) and during search of the vehicle recovered 150 gram Charas. During frisking of the duo present in the vehicle, police again recovered 300 grams of Charas from the one Noor Muhammad Bhat son of Muhammad Sultan Bhat, a resident of Trajabal Charar-e-Sharif. The vehicle was driven by Muncipal Councillor Tariq Ahmed Dar son of Bashir Ahmed Dar, a resident of Alamdar Colony Charar-e-Sharif.

Police arrested both these persons and seized the vehicle. “A case under 8/20 NDPS Act was registered against the duo.”

Police seized the documents of the vehicle and it came to fore that the vehicle belongs to Chairman Municipality Committee Charar-e-Sharif, Zahid Hussain Jan, who is also affiliated with Congress party.

The First Information Report in this case maintains that the Covid-19 banners of MC Charar-e-Sharif were pasted on the vehicle, so that it could evade the checking and police gaze. “The culprits were frequently using this vehicle and they were smuggling charas and other stuff from district Pulwama to Budgam where it was sold to youth.”

Station House Officer, Charar-e-Sharif, Inspector Yasir Rashid told Kashmir News Trust that they have seized the documents of the vehicle and whosoever is found guilty will face music under law. When asked why no action has been initiated against the owner of the vehicle, the police officer said that investigation is going on.

Zahid Hussain Jan, Chairman Municipal Committee, Charar-e-Sharif told KNT that Councilor Tariq Dar and his associate Noor Bhat had taken the vehicle for spray (disinfectant) purpose. “Tariq told me it is too late and will take the vehicle to home. Later I came to know that charas have been recovered from them,” he said adding that charas recovered from them was for personal use as Tariq sometimes smoke charas.

Zahid Jan claimed that he doesn’t own the vehicle and it belongs to one of his relatives. (KNT)
