JetLAG 2021: GENIUS LOCI
Many of you are impatiently waiting for news about JetLAG 2021. Will there be a JetLAG? Will it be on the same dates and at the same place? Are my tickets still good for this year?
Guess what? JetLAG 2021: GENIUS LOCI is to take place at Peaceful Valley Campsites on Friday July 30th - Sunday August 1st, 2021.
GENIUS LOCI is the Latin term for “spirit of place”. Alexander Pope wrote: “Consult the genius of the place in all; That tells the waters to rise, or fall; [...] Now breaks, or now directs, th' intending lines; Paints as you plant, and, as you work, designs.” By genius loci, we essentially mean the spirit of a home. JetLAG’s home is Peaceful Valley, and after all the weirdness of 2020, we return to its genuine, unique and cherished vibes.
Will this JetLAG be different? Yes, but then, hasn’t it always been? This year we don't know yet how many people will be able to come or how many concerts will be able to happen (stay tuned for updates). But what we know is that the miracle of JetLAG is that it has always been both local, familial, homey, intimate AND planetary, international, an all-embracing, all-inviting feast of creativity, hospitality, love and fun.
And so it will be this year! While we have so many unknowns, there’s one thing we know for sure: let’s come together after a long two years of waiting to create something beautiful and magical together, the way we always do. The spirit of the place, which we ourselves create, is with us. The Locus is Peaceful Valleys, but it is also the whole world.
We are starting to plan the festival and soon we will start selling tickets. We’re following the guidance of NY official state laws to ensure that we can be safe and protected, and we’ve been waiting to hear regulations about outdoor gatherings. NY State is beginning to allow outdoor events based on capacity, and we hope this trend will continue as vaccinations rates increase and infection rates drop in this area. However, in order for JetLAG to be sustainable, we need to be able to have at least 1,600 people. Therefore, the festival will take place only when NY state allows outdoor gatherings of our size to operate at 30% capacity.
We will be issuing a series of announcements over the next two weeks about resuming ticket sales and your 2020 tickets. We are switching ticket platforms this year, so among other things, this takes some time to establish. Thank you for your trust and patience while we’ve been figuring everything out. We love you!
