A U.S. Census Bureau report released this month shows the U.S. population will shrink without increased immigration. Maintaining the current population is critical for economic growth and funding programs like Social Security and Medicare.
The U.S. does not have enough unemployed people to fill the 9.5 million jobs currently open, Department of Labor data shows. Some of the hardest-to-fill positions are the lowest-paid and unskilled jobs immigrants have historically taken.
The former president told supporters in Iowa he would round up unauthorized immigrants using former President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s “Operation Wetback” as a model. In 1954, federal soldiers, National Guard troops and federal authorities deported 1.3 million people, mostly of Mexican descent.

Former President Donald Trump and Gov. Greg Abbott propose devastating immigration policies.

José Hernández reached the final 100 contestants three times before finally being selected for NASA’s astronaut program in 2004. Since then, he has spent 13 days, 20 hours, and 54 minutes in space.

The son of migrant farm workers from Mexico, Hernández grew up along what he calls the “California Circuit,” picking produce between March and December. Watching the Apollo 17 mission on TV in 1972 sparked his childhood interest in space.

After earning a master’s degree in electrical engineering, Hernández developed the first full-field digital mammography system for the early detection of breast cancer. Then, in 2009, he was sent on a NASA mission, tasked with helping to complete construction of the International Space Station. There, he sent the first Spanish-language tweet from space.

Before his tweet in Spanish, he shared some thoughts in English: “Settling in and realizing my dream… Micro G is great. Finished setting up the computers and ready for bed! Don’t need pillow!”

"You *burros* have math in your blood!"
04/10/2023

"You *burros* have math in your blood!"

Did you know that neither the Greeks nor the Romans were capable of using the concept of zero? It was our ancestors, the Mayas, who first contemplated and used the zero - the absence of value.
True story.

"You *burros* have math in your blood!"

"There will be no free rides, no excuses. You already have two strikes against you - your name and your complexion.
Because of these two strikes, there are some people in this world who will assume that you know less than you do.
Math is the great equalizer... When you go for a job, the person giving you that job will not want to hear your problems; ergo, neither do I.
You're going to work harder here than you've ever worked anywhere else. And the only thing I ask from you is ganas. Desire."

"For National Mexican Film Day, which was on Aug. 15, Mattel decided to pay tribute to actress María de los Ángeles Félix Güereña, known as María Félix, with a limited edition doll.
Born on May 4, 1914, in Álamos, Sonora, Félix was an icon of Spanish-language cinema and an international star. Félix made 47 films throughout her career, which started in the early 1940s during the Golden Era of Mexican cinematography.
She enjoyed the luxurious things in life and had a strong personality, which led to her being remembered as a diva as well as for her powerful roles, most famously, for her part in the film "Doña Bárbara," where she played a strong woman who broke from traditional gender roles. Félix was sometimes called “La Doña” for her part in the movie and garnered the nickname "María Bonita" later on."

Mattel is honoring the late and legendary Mexican actress María Félix with a new Barbie.

The Mária Félix doll celebrates her legacy, contribution to Mexican cinema and cultural betterment, and her advocacy for women's equality and indigenous groups.
