Vertigo UNVEILED is thrilled and honoured to announce that we have been elected to be the Editorial Team for Vertigo 2021! ✨

After a tough campaign we cannot claim all the credit to our victory and so we must thank the following people:

Firstly, we must congratulate our fellow Vertigo team candidates on their hard-fought campaign: Amplify, Uncut and Vertigo Squad. Your social media campaigns are to be admired and have set a benchmark for teams to come in terms of quality, dedication and creativity. There was a clear drive for inclusivity, diversity and social justice which we find incredibly inspirational and can only hope to bring this same energy to our 2021 publications.
Though we stood divided during the campaign, our goals to elevate Vertigo and boost student voices remain the same and we all now stand united as UTS students and creatives.

Secondly, to the current Vertigo: thank you so much for inspiring us. Your work on Vertigo this year is a huge part of the reason why we were so driven to join the Vertigo family. The fact that four teams were eager for the chance to work on Vertigo is a testament to your hard work and the quality of work you have produced this year. It’s a daunting task taking on a publication so well executed, however we are up for the challenge to fill your incredibly large shoes.

And lastly, to our supporters and voters. We are eternally grateful for the opportunity you have granted us, and we are humbled by your enthusiasm and engagement. Winning this election was a collective effort and seeing students unite under our vision has made us even more excited to create these publications.
Thank you everyone for being with us every step of the way. Though the campaign is over, our work has only just started. We are endeavouring to work even harder to bring you, the students, a fresh and inspiring Vertigo.
❤️💜

Hannah is a visual communications student whose dream is to collect as many plants as she does fonts. When she’s not busy trying to find ‘the perfect typeface’ she can be found reading in the sun or indulging in reality tv shows that are so bad they’re good (you know the kind). In her free time she enjoys thrifting or going to art galleries and thinks that road trips can be just as fun as the actual destination (especially with the right playlist).
In her free time Hannah works as a freelance graphic designer and volunteers with We Are World Change by creating digital content for NGOs. She is also passionate about amplifying creative voices and would love to help promote the talent of the inspiring people around her by being a part of the Vertigo team.

Erin is a third-year journalism and creative writing student who doesn’t know when she will be graduating. In her free time, you will find her watching obscure Danish police procedurals and eating sweet n’ salty popcorn. Passionate about the environment, arts and music, an ideal night out for Erin would be a Save the Reef benefit concert, on the roof of the MCA. 1000 tiny mice play the opening riff to Smoke on the Water on their teeny guitars. We all cry.

Fun fact: As a child, Erin was obsessed with Murder She Wrote. So much so, that her mother banned her from watching it because she was concerned the show was having an intense impact on her psyche.

Meet Rachel. An avid-believer in the fake-it-til-you-make-it motto. She’s currently in her fourth year, studying a double degree of Visual Communication and International Studies. She’s your go-to artsy gal. Rachel is passionate about design and photography and can often be found sussing out the latest brunch hotspots or soldiering through yet another Netflix binge. (In her eyes, there is no show too trashy.)

Her favourite fun fact to whip out when selling herself is that last year she visited Messina so many times, they gave her a whole cake...for free! After many heated discussions, Rachel has come to the conclusion that Megamind and Ratatouille are the best animated films of all time and yes, she is prepared to fight those who disagree.

Rachel enjoys freelance photography and has even had some of her work published in Vertigo. She would love the opportunity to be a part of next year’s Vertigo team. As a Vertigo designer she hopes to make it the most aesthetic, page-turning edition they’ve had yet.

This is Angela! She’s a fourth year Communications and International Studies student who’s still learning how to use her sarcasm for good, not evil. And if you think she looks uncomfortable in front of the camera, you’d be right! This gal is more used to being behind the scene as a writer, editor, producer and blogger. She’s run two Dungeons and Dragons campaigns, and dreams of one day RPing a character that is definitely NOT three kobolds in a trench coat.

When she’s not hopping between Netflix and Stan, you can find Angela scrapbooking, reading and cataloguing her next tattoo ideas. Currently, she kind-of-but-definitely has an Avatar The Last Airbender tattoo.

Angela is eager to find and foster creative voices from unexpected places in UTS and intends to focus on artists and writers from STEM backgrounds.

This is Tara! Tara is a second year visual communications student, and concerningly addicted to shopping fashion labels she can’t afford. With a particular love for illustration and handmade designs, you will always spot her working in a completely unorgansied, cluttered working space. When she’s procrastinating uni projects to the absolute last minute, Tara is either craving pistachio gelato from Cow and the Moon or at her local pilates studio desperately hoping it will solve all her problems. She’ll never say no to a groove on the dancefloor on a night out, nor a tequila shot. With a deep passion for music, arts and culture, Tara is excited to embark on her Vertigo journey. She would love to give other young creative individuals the opportunity to express themselves and their personal projects, collating it into a magazine you have yet to imagine!

Mauli is a 3rd year Biomedical Engineering student who loves to flex his creative muscle in his spare time. Living life by the motto: ‘Try anything once’, he is obsessed with anything to do with Australian music, especially up and coming artists in Sydney. While he is an engineering student, Mauli’s heart lies with writing, and reading literature from around the world. When he isn’t adding to the expansive list of places he wants to travel to, you can find him watching music documentaries, being a VSCO girl with his film camera, or volunteering for causes such as indigenous health, and the upkeep of social services for rural and low socioeconomic areas. Mauli would love to see his passion for music represented in the pages of Vertigo through a diverse range of writers and topics.

Sevin is a fourth-year law and communications student majoring in journalism. When she’s not obsessing over rabbit, rat and small animal posts on Instagram, you can find her binging YouTube videos, true crime documentaries or “trashy” reality tv. While she hates the sight of gore, she thoroughly enjoys horror films - the spooky kind. She’s a proud mum to a mini lop bunny (Mocha) and three plants - although she is known for killing succulents... Her favourite podcast (currently) is Bobo & Flex, and her feminist icon is Florence Given. In her free time, she enjoys photography, writing, trying new vegan restaurants and reading up on her daily horoscope on Co-Star (hello fellow Aries). Previously, she worked as a producer for Body+Soul, did newsreading at 2SER and volunteered at Anti-Slavery Australia as a legal assistant. Sevin has a passion for social justice, feminism and art, and would love to see more diverse voices and stories represented in Vertigo next year.

Say hello to Katherine! She is an obsessive cat-lover, as much as she is a profound lover of perfectly organised colour coordination. She is currently studying her fourth year of a double degree in Visual Communication and International Studies. If you don’t catch her trying to have a good boogie to some disco, she is most likely spending her time creating as much digital art as possible. Some of which have been included in past Vertigos! With her passion for all things art and design, she believes that being a part of the Vertigo team will fit perfectly into her passion for promoting the exciting and intriguing work of young creatives. Katherine believes in the strength of sharing diverse stories (in whatever wonderful and wacky medium they may be) to amplify the variety of voices within our community!

Alice (aka Ei Ei) is a third-year civil engineering and international studies student majoring in German. She is very much your typical struggling STEM student, but when she’s feeling creative or moody, she likes to write poetry or take aesthetic photos of other people. She is also a veteran ARMY, and if she’s not busy going through BTS content, she’s probably scrolling through the internet collecting inspo for fashion and film. For years, she has been greatly fascinated by the calibre of human nature that is manifested in modern literature, media and politics and this is reflected in her work. Alice has submitted a few pieces of work to Vertigo in the past. She has also once written the horoscopes and (over)identifies with being a charming Libra to the bone! As a first-gen Burmese Australian, she is also very passionate about diverse representation in media and education. For Vertigo 2021, she hopes to connect all kinds of voices together through art, music and culture!
