MATT DUMESNY JOINS MONTE MOTORSPORT FOR AUSTRALIAN TITLE ASSAULT
Official release: Monte Motorsport
January 19, 2023

Matt Dumesny will drive the Monte Motorsport W17 for the 2023 Australian Sprintcar Championship.

The third-generation racer is ‘over the moon’ with the opportunity to wheel one of the most iconic hot rods in Australian Sprintcar racing and can’t wait to belt in next month.

Speculation has been rife as to who would fill the seat of the Monte Farms Monte Motorsport Maxim with a number of high-profile racers linked to the opportunity.

Jamie Veal had been the initial candidate but the former national champion and Warrnambool Classic winner has family commitments around the time of the title.

“I’d love to have driven for Luch,” Veal explains, “but we expect our second child around the title date and just I couldn’t commit fully to Luch and the team. I didn’t want to leave him out in the cold if I wasn’t able to make the trip at the last minute. I know what this race means to Luch.”

Monte spent considerable time looking at possible drivers with varying degrees of experience to take the wheel in February.

“This is the only major race our team hasn’t won,” he admits, “and it means a lot to me to have it held at home at the Perth Motorplex.”

The decision to strap Sydneysider Matt Dumesny into the W17 despite no pre-title experience at The Motorplex is one that Monte and crew chief Steve Melville are excited about.

“Matt is a great young racer. He’s proven that at many of the big events he’s won or he’s just been fast at if he hasn’t won. I rate him as one of the most exciting drivers in the country and we’re thrilled to have him join us for the Prelude and the Title.”

For Dumesny, the chance to wheel the W17 is a dream come true.

“Since I was a little kid I’ve watched the Monte Motorsport car and regarded it as one of the world’s real dream teams. Luch and his guys have always turned out amazing equipment and their drivers have been right up the front. And of course they’ve won some of the country’s biggest races. For someone like me to get in and drive for that team, at the biggest race in Australia in front of their hometown fans is something I’m so grateful for. Everyone knows how much the Aussie title means to Luch and I’m determined to reward his faith in me.”

Dumesny will now line up against his younger brother Marcus as the latter defends his A1 he earned at Archerfield last season.

“The Australian Title is a big deal for our family too,” Matt explains, with Dad winning three titles and now Marcus winning his last year I’m more determined than ever to take my shot at the title in one of the best cars in the world.”

At age 28 years of age Matt Dumesny has some impressive victories under his belt with a NSW title win at Parramatta, a Victorian Title win at Warrnambool and numerous USC main event wins at the now defunct Valvoline Raceway to his credit.

“I’m pumped to race at the Motorplex,” says Dumesny, “I love the big tracks and the Motorplex produces some amazing racing. I had my first USA podium at the big Calistoga track in 2018 and I think that bigger tracks really suit my driving. I can’t wait to race at the Motorplex.”

Dumesny will contest the two-night Summer Slam at Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway this weekend then head south to the Presidents Cup at Avalon, the Kings Challenge at Mount Gambier and then the 50th Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic next week in his own Valvoline #57 Maxim before heading West in time to join Monte Motorsport for the Prelude event on February 8 at Kwinana.

The 2023 Australian Sprintcar Championship is scheduled for February 10/11, 2023.

13/01/2023

Just wanted to send a shout out to the new 2023 Australian Speedway Motorcycle Champion Jack Holder.
What an incredible year it's been for Jack.
First Speedway of Nations World Champion team member and now Aussie #1.
Climbing mountains and standing on the peak one day at a time.
I love the way that the Holders get after it.
They do it their way.
No apologies, no fear, no looking back.
Insane raw talent, speed and skill.
Chris started the whole 'Holder On' phenomenon that Aussies then European fans fell in love with.
Went on to become an absolute badass in Poland, UK and wider Speedway Europe before becoming World Champion in 2012 and along the way a five times Australian champion with a list of achievements as long as your arm.
Then comes little bro.
You'd think it would have been difficult to be in the shadow of CH but Jack has earned his stars and his scars the hard way.
Chris has guided him throughout the process but ultimately it was Jack alone on that bike at the tapes.
It's his flash and balls that takes him to where he's at today - regarded as one of the world's most explosive riders.
Now he's a World Champion and an Australian Champion in the one year.
Blood and DNA will get you so far.
Hard work and talent takes you further.
Aussie Speedway riders get none of the glory back in their homeland that F1 and MotoGP racers get.
They do it alone.
Little to no recognition in mainstream media and little to no understanding of the at times bitterly inhospitable weather patterns in Europe.
With the support of their fellow Aussie riders and their supportive family back home they at least have a base to work with - even if it's not always visible on the surface.
He was just a kid when he started.
Looking to be a rock star like big bro and the other SGP heroes.
Jack stands up as his own man these days.
It would have been easy to do the skids without the commitment.
To sail in initially with his last name as the business card.
But talk is cheap and bu****it gets you nowhere in the brutal world of international Speedway.
Sooner, not later, you have to back it in and back it the hell up.
I'm proud of all that Mick, Karen, Jimmy, Chris and now Jack have done and continue to do in this sport.
And I'm absolutely stoked for Jack to get some seriously big numbers up on the board.
We're all proud of you Jack.
I hope you feel the pride that your blood family and your wider speedway family family feel in you.
You're smashing it mate.

BTW he's on the cover and inside the latest issue of This Speedway Life thanks to the photographic wizardry of Taylor Lanning Photography

CONSISTENT COURTNEY PICKS UP ELLENBROOK PODIUM
Official release: Monte Motorsport
January 8, 2023

Tyler Courtney’s consistency continues to be a factor in the USA v WA Sprintcar Speedweek as the Indiana gasser scored another podium finish, this time at Allwest Plant Hire - Ellenbrook Speedway overnight.

“Sunshine” finished a strong second to fellow countryman Cory Eliason as the duo continue to dominate the Speedweek Series.

Apart from one trip outside the top five at Bunbury where he tagged a lapped car and had to come from the rear Courtney has been to victory lane or the podium on every other occasion in the five rounds so far.

“We were good, we just didn’t need that restart,” Tyler lamented post-race at Ellenbrook last night, ”I think in dirty air with lapped traffic we were solid and we had a shot. In clean air and open traffic though we couldn’t get a decent shot at him (Eliason). We’ll regroup and come back next week at Bunbury.”

Courtney is headed to popular tourist attraction Rottnest Island this week before contesting the final two rounds in respective weekends at Bunbury and Kwinana.

He currently sits in second place in the series.

GOODYER WINS SPEEDWEEK BY BAREST OF MARGINS
Official release: Clay-Per-View Sprintcars Speedweek
January 3, 2023

In the end, it came down to just seventy points.
After four nights, over 150 A-Main laps and countless kilometres across South Australia and Victorian highway roads, Jock Goodyer edged out Jamie Veal to win the 2022/2023 Clay-Per-View Speedweek Series by just seventy points.
And Lockie McHugh was only ten points behind second placed Jamie Veal for third.
The return to competition for “Speedweek” at Murray Bridge, Borderline, Avalon and Premier was by and large an enormous success on many levels.
The lion’s share of the credit for that must surely go to the teams who competed in the entire series, and for those who came and competed when they could.
The crowds were enormous.
The racing was sublime.
Speedweek was and IS back.
After being starved for so long of that style of competition the fans voted with their feet and the racers responded.
In a current environment where parts availability and prices vary wildly the effort that all teams put in to race for the four nights is beyond admirable.
We have Wayne Baines, Ian Cartlidge and Terry Barry to thank, plus the respective officials of Sprintcars SA and the SRA and all track officials to thank for their sizeable contributions.
The fact that the series came down to the wire, and even the last lap, is testimony to the skill, daring and commitment from those who strapped in, those who prepped, maintained and set up, and those who took the wheel of the haulers on the highway.
The Clay-Per-View production team led by Jarred Ash, Daniel Downing, Sam Furler, Bob Potts, Michael Geddes, James Rice, Tyler Barton, Liam and Harrison Fitzmedia and Ben and Robert did a wonderful job behind the scenes to beam the action to the Clayperview.com giant video screen and across the world.

Some interesting stats from the racing include:

Four different winners in four rounds – Jamie Veal, Lockie McHugh, James McFadden and Jock Goodyer
Chassis A-Main wins were Maxim (3) Cool (1).
Jock Goodyer ran second on three occasions before finally breaking through for the final round A-Main win
Jamie Veal was frustrated with his car speed all week and then the night after the final round won the Victorian title at Premier Speedway.
Lockie McHugh muscled the ECP7 around in second for most of the final round A-Main despite a broken Jacobs ladder after a power meeting with the wall early in the race.
Luke Dillon was a model of consistency scoring three top-fives and one seventh place
American Chase Randall had never raced a 410ci Sprintcar before Speedweek. He was never outside the top six in any A-Main and never once qualified through the B-Main.
Steven Lines had to wait for the final round for his best round – scoring a series best fourth place finish at Warrnambool to get that grin back on his face.
Glen Sutherland’s breakthrough round was Avalon for Round Three with an eventual seventh place finish and a brilliant second place in his heat.
Murray Bridge’s Ryan Jones’ best result was fifth on opening night at his home track.
Cody Maroske’s best result was eighth at the same round at Murray Bridge.
Tate Frost’s best result was a pair of eighth place finishes at Borderline and Avalon after destroying a car in Round One.
Chad Ely’s best finish was ninth at Warrnambool but he was speediest (not luckiest) in Round One where he qualified on pole for the A-Main in Murray Bridge.
Brock Hallett’s best result was fourteenth at Avalon after he built a new car as a result of destroying one at Mount Gambier.
Brendan Guerin’s best result was thirteenth at Murray Bridge for Round One with a fourteenth the next round at Borderline.
Daniel Pestka’s best result was eleventh at Mount Gambier but Murray Bridge was going to be his best until he flipped early in the A-Main after qualifying near the front.
Dennis Jones was an unexpected yet welcome traveller in the V17 with his best finish being at Mount Gambier where he finished fifteenth.
Scott Enderl claimed a pair of twenty second positions in the first two consecutive rounds as he continued to build his laps portfolio.
Braydan Willmington’s return to Sprintcar racing saw his best result being 28th in Round One at Murray Bridge.
Sydney sixteen-year-old Ashton Mineeff saw him register twenty sixth on the opening night at Murray Bridge on debut.
The series unfortunately lost David Murcott and the Downing Brothers #97 in Heat One in Round One when David aggravated an old injury after a monumental crash on the main straight at Murray Bridge.

The final points for drivers who contested all rounds of Speedweek are:

1. Jock Goodyer 910
2. Jamie Veal 840
3. Lockie McHugh 830
4. Luke Dillon 720
5. Chase Randall 710
6. Ryan Jones 615
7. Steven Lines 581
8. Cody Maroske 550
9. Tate Frost 510
10. Glen Sutherland 473
11. Chad Ely 468
12. Brock Hallett 426
13. Brendan Guerin 421
14. Daniel Pestka 418
15. Dennis Jones 385
16. Scott Enderl 356
17. Brendan Quinn 325
18. Todd Moule 312
19. Braydan Willmington 258

TYLER TRIUMPHS IN SPEEDWEEK TURNAROUND…
Official release: Monte Motorsport
January 3, 2023

Tyler Courtney has won his second A-Main of the USA v WA Sprintcar Speedweek at The Perth Motorplex overnight leading for 99% of the race.

The Indiana throttle stomper delivered the perfect follow up for his team after the disappointment of the night before at Bunbury for Round Three where he tangled with a lapped car and ended up sixth in the A-Main after being sent to the rear.

“It’s great to get the win tonight after last night at Bunbury. I feel like we are really getting the car comfortable for me now and my team is working really hard to get us everything we need. It’s great to get our second win of the series in Perth for our team and our partners,” grinned the two time All Stars champion post race.

Courtney, who has definitely developed a love affair with Kwinana timed quickest in his group, finished third in his heat and ran second in the B-Dash to start the main event from the inside of the second row.

Except for a brief challenge from fellow American Cory Eliason the driver of the Monte Motorsport W17 dominated the event and now focuses on the second last round - a twilight race - at Ellenbrook Speedway to try and wrest the series lead from the Californian.

The Monte Motorsport team has three remaining rounds counting Ellenbrook plus the second last round at Bunbury where “Sunshine” is definitely looking to avenge his last result there and improve on his current second place in the Speedweek series overall.

GOODYER’S DOUBLE WHAMMY FOR SPEEDWEEK GLORY
Official release: Clay-Per-View Sprintcars Speedweek
January 2, 2023

Tasmanian Jock Goodyer is the toast of the Sprintcar town after winning both the final round A-Main and the Clay-Per-View Sprintcars Speedweek tonight at Premier Speedway Warrnambool.

In spooky conditions where a thick fog wafted over the venue earlier in the night the Launceston Leadfoot wheeled his Platinum Prints T22 Maxim to victory in the 35-lap A-Main to pocket $22,500 including the $7500 winner’s prize and the $15,000 series bounty.

“I can’t thank my team enough,” grinned the young Tasmanian, “every time we came out I knew we had a car that was capable of winning. I felt like I could put it anywhere on the track and be fast.”

Goodyer was a picture of consistency throughout the four-night series where he logged in three consecutive runner up finishes and finally the Warrnambool win.

The difference tonight was a quick time qualifying effort in his heat group (where previously he’d struggled all week in qualifying), placing third in the heat and was second highest qualifier going into the Pole Shootout.

Goodyer took over the lead when James McFadden suffered steering failure and headed infield early in the main event.

It was far from an easy situation from there however with third placed in the series Lockie McHugh and second placed Jamie Veal staking legitimate bids for series glory.

Though Goodyer had the track to himself out front and weaved through the lapped traffic at will his pursuers were certainly close enough should he make a mistake.

Veal came from thirteenth to an eventual third place after a multi-lap tussle with McHugh that probably gave leader Goodyer some extra breathing room when it counted.

McHugh ‘knocked the ladder out’ (Jacobs Ladder) of the car when he slammed the wall on the back straight early in the race yet still drove the wheels of the NQ7 to stay in contention for the lead.

Steven Lines enjoyed a welcome return to form in the Q83 Horrell Motorsport firing into his first top five finish of the series with fourth place ahead of the ever consistent Luke Dillon in fifth, American Chase Randall sixth, Ryan Jones seventh, Darren Mollenoyux eighth from the B-Main, Chad Ely ninth, Ben Morris tenth, Cam Waters eleventh from the B-Main, Cody Maroske twelfth, Glen Sutherland thirteenth, Joel Heinrich fourteenth, Will Carroll fifteenth as the last classified car with Brock Hallett (DNF), Tate Frost (DNF), James McFadden (DNF) and Brett Milburn (DNF).

Jock Goodyer clinched the 2022/2023 Clay-Per-View Sprintcars Speedweek Series from Jamie Veal in second, Lockie McHugh third, Luke Dillon fourth and American Chase Randall rounding out the top five.

SPEEDWEEK SERIES FINALE PROMISES THRILLING CONCLUSION
Official release: Clay-Per-View Sprintcars Speedweek
December 31, 2022

Tomorrow night – Sunday, January 1, 2023 the curtain falls on a truly epic 2022/2023 Clay-Per-View Sprintcars Speedweek and it promises to do so under nail-biting circumstances.

Only twenty points separate leader Jock Goodyer and second placed Jamie Veal (basically the difference between first and second in the A-Main) as the series rocks into Premier Speedway Warrnambool for the fourth and final round.

Queenslander Lockie McHugh sits in third place just thirty points behind second placed Veal and mathematically and realistically they are the only three that can come away with the title and the $15,000 winner’s prize tomorrow night.

In both Goodyer and McHugh’s situations disappointing qualifying efforts (by their own admissions and by their own standards) have affected their series positions.

Goodyer comes into the finale with three consecutive runner-up positions and all three have necessitated big time charges from deep in the A-Main pack.

McHugh has been in pretty much the same boat.

As the series heads to Sungold Stadium’s Premier Speedway Warrnambool it’s interesting to note that the venue has fond memories for all of the five major players in points who have competed in the last two rounds at Borderline and Avalon:

Jock Goodyer won “Max’s Race” on December 17.
Lochie McHugh won the 2021 Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic.
Jamie Veal won the 2016 Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic.
James McFadden won the 2020 and 2017 Grand Annual Sprintcar Classics.
Luke Dillon has won two main events there.
Texan Chase Randall has only ever seen the place on Youtube.

Though he can’t win the series James McFadden became the third different winner in as many rounds last night at Avalon Raceway and now has a 3rd and a 1st to his credit – and buoyed with the confidence of last night’s speed at Avalon McFadden will be a major force with no series point pressure on him.

Comparing the top five drivers’ results over the first three rounds it’s an interesting study:

Jock Goodyer
2nd, 2nd, 2nd.

Jamie Veal
1st, 4th, 3rd,

Lockie McHugh
6th, 1st, 4th

Luke Dillon
3rd, 7th, 5th

Chase Randall
4th, 5th, 6th

The CPV Speedweek finale features 51 cars (the biggest car count so far) including 12 drivers who have not yet turned laps in the series – Ash Cook, Cam Waters, Corey McCullagh, Daniel Scott, Darren Mollenoyux, Grant Stansfield, Leigh Mugavin, Peter Doukas, Phil Micallef, and Todd Hobson.
