Things to note regarding the CEO of United Healthcare shooting today in Manhattan.

• Brian Thompson lives in Minnesota but was shot in NYC today. He was there for an investor’s conference.
• Brian was not staying at the hotel the conference was being held at & had been in NYC since Monday. He was there for 2 days before he was killed.
• Brian has executive security but they were not with him when he was shot.
• Brian was arriving at the hotel an hour before the conference was set to begin.
• The shooter arrived at the hotel roughly five minutes before Brian did and waited for him, observed by a vehicle.
• Several people passed the shooter and he paid them zero mind. He waited until he saw Brian, whom he appears to have recognized immediately.
• The shooter was carrying a 9mm handgun with a suppressor attached. Suppressors muffle the sound of gunfire however it it still loud.
• There was a woman between the shooter and Brian, but the shooter paid her no mind at all.
• The witness ran to safety as the shooter fired, cleared jams in his gun, and fired again.
• The shooter’s first shot hit Brian in the calf. While it’s widely suspected this was a targeted hit, the issues with his gun and the first shot hitting Brian in the leg, might suggest that the shooter isn’t as familiar with this kind of activity as is being reported. The shots were fired at very close range
• It should be noted however that the shooter had no issue clearing the jams in the gun.
• The shooter appears to have experience with guns, but does not appear (in my opinion) to be any kind of expert in fi****ms.
• The shooter was alarmingly calm throughout the shooting. He was not in a hurry. He did not run when the gun jammed. He did not care about witnesses. He walked slowly and calmly. Cars passed as the shooting continued.
• Police found a phone in the ally he ran through. I would guess this is a burner phone used to communicate with whoever may have ordered this.
• While Brian is from Minnesota and was only in NYC for a conference, it appears the shooter is very familiar with NYC.
• He fled on food for a bit and then hopped into a Citi Bike. Those require a card/app to use, so I would guess that he likely took the bike from someone, but that’s just an assumption at this point.
• Citi Bike has GPS, however NY residents say that the buildings in the city make it difficult to track them down at times.
• The shooter was last seen entering Central Park.

OPINION: Whoever did this, knew a lot of personal details about Brian’s schedule. He was arriving early to the conference even though it appears most attendees were likely staying at the conference hotel. Brian was not. Brian did not have executive security with him. Brian lives in a quiet area in Minnesota, however he was killed in NYC. I looked up the conference information online and while I could find info booklets for investors, I couldn’t find any information on where it was being held and when. It seems to me, that whoever organized this, likely knew intimate details about Brian, including how to identify him from behind, and his schedule down to a 5 minute window. The discarded phone leads me to presume that this is less likely to be a revenge plot by someone who was personally upset with him or United Healthcare, and more likely to be a hired plot.

UPDATED SUSPECT INFORMATION: NYPD released new photos and he is wearing a black jacket with a hood. He is a white male who looks fairly young based on what you can see of his face and hands. It was stated he wore gloves during the shooting but based on what I can see, it doesn’t look like he did. His backpack is gray and possibly light green. His mask did not cover his eyes and top of his nose.

A grand jury in Virginia has handed up an indictment charging Naresh Bhatt, the Prince William County man whose wife went missing in July, with murder.
