"I consider myself a social justice warrior. It’s in my bones. It’s one of the greatest gifts my dad and mom have ever given me. I was about 7 years old when I could tell you the gritty details of the lives of Malcolm X, Angela Davis, Maya Angelou, Rosa Parks, and Harriet Tubman. They were more than my ancestors; they were my angels. They helped me see life in a new way where we were all human and deserving of love. I knew what belonging and becoming felt like when I thought about them. They became the quilt and stitches of who I had become in sobriety."

We have Ayanna Niambi Freedom in The Identity Issue 2024! The author of "Unf*ck Your Stuck: The 12 Agreements to Full Body Freedom" and founder of B Free Wellness tells us how she is finding peace with her past 🧘🏽‍♀️ and embracing sobriety 💪🏽 to move forward.

Thyme and Denielle, founders of UNICORN, are hitting the stalls with their mission. In our column The Flip, Thyme talks about ending period poverty. “With UNICORN, Denielle and I aren’t just changing the way period products are distributed, we're challenging each business to take a stand for gender equality. We're not just rewriting our stories, we're editing the societal blueprint, ensuring that restroom equity isn't a policy, but a practice.”

For Nina Coslov of Women Living Better, with connection comes validation. Last Spring, we spoke with Dassie Abelson about growing up in Israel. Our conversation was 6 months before the war. We went back to her before press and checked in with her. “Are you okay?” we asked. “No,” she answered. But she reminded us what she wrote about being part of something bigger than herself. “… I realized the kind of treasure that comes from learning from people who escaped hardship and who were dedicated to their heritage. To tradition. So yes, connection; I have plenty. The more I see that we aren’t alone, the more I feel blessed.”

Don't miss Dassie’s story in The Connections Issue '23. It's the close of our second volume!
