Hey mama are you giving birth soon? ⬇️

While out of context, this can sound a little funky but it can change your birth! Birth plans are wonderful ways to get your thoughts and wants down. It can create a picture of what you dream your birth to look like!

In a perfect world, every birth plan would be honored and everyone would have a “perfect birth”. Unfortunately, that does not always happen and you’ll need to mentally come to terms with that before birth 🫶🏼

If you advocate for yourself and go in knowing what you want, you have a good chance of maintaining comfort and confidence. Take your spouse, a doula, or a friend who can advocate for what you want when you may not be able. Planning for possible medical interventions is a good way to understand what may happen, but only consent to what you are comfortable with! 🤗

One more thing mama, if you want to be medicated or know you might need it, GREAT! If you know you 100% are going unmedicated, GREAT! Do NOT let anyone convince you that you can’t do it or it makes you “less than”. You are a fantastic mama either way! 🥰

Just a reminder, don’t marry your birth plan but do KNOW what you want and NEED going in to birth! 💗

It’s World Breastfeeding Week! The amount of milk you produced or didn’t produce, does not define you. How long you breastfed - whether a week or a day or a month or a year - does not define you as a mother. Maybe breastfeeding worked for you or wasn’t for you or their were circumstances that prevented you from breastfeeding. Whatever your reasoning may be, you are still the perfect mama for your baby. 💗

We want to support and acknowledge breastfeeding mama’s this week BUT however you fed or feed your baby is RIGHT for YOU! 🤱🏼👩🏼‍🍼

So, whether you tried to breastfeed, are breastfeeding, or didn’t choose that for your family, we are here and we support you.

Keep going mama, you got this! You are amazing and your baby loves you 🫶🏼

Do any of these pregnancy facts surprise you? 🤯

Pregnancy is be vary person to person and there is no “one size fits all” when it comes to symptoms. Let’s talk a bit about each of these 5 so you can be prepared and understand each one!

▶️ Blood volume increases to compensate for your body growing a baby! Blood flow to your organs increases steadily until your 3rd trimester! 🩸
▶️ Increased fluid can cause your feet to “grow” or swell a whole shoe size! Rising estrogen & progesterone may increase your breast size up to one cup larger. 👟
▶️ Varicose veins, hemorrhoids, or constipation are likely to happen. At least one of these symptoms might cross your path in pregnancy. Eating a fiber-rich diet, drinking plenty of liquids daily, and exercising regularly can help! 🚰
▶️ Hormonal changes can trigger a difficult emotional state. Increased levels of the hormones progesterone and estrogen can affect your neurotransmitters, which are responsible for mood regulation. See your doctor if these feelings are overwhelming or hard to manage ❤️
▶️ Diastasis Recti is pretty common - up to 60% of mama’s will see this in pregnancy and beyond. Strengthening your core muscles before you get pregnant or in the early stages of pregnancy might help you avoid abdominal separation. There are many ways to treat DR so check with your doctor before participating in any abdominal exercises! 💪🏻

We dive into pregnancy and facts you should know in episode 6! Listen in tomorrow to hear more and how to deal with some of these symptoms! 🫶🏼

In all chapters of life you are allowed to make boundaries for no other reason than your mental health. 🫶🏼

During pregnancy, during birth, during postpartum, during motherhood, and during any time you want! Boundaries are a way to protect your mental health and you don’t owe anyone any explanations for those boundaries either.

You are your number one advocate, and you need to protect your mental health & well being!

What is one boundary you have made to protect your mental health? ⬇️❤️

It’s not always about what “happened” during birth that made it traumatic.

Often times survivors of birth trauma talk about what DIDN’T happen during their experiences. It’s about what “should have happened” and what was taken away from so many survivors.

This can be various things.

*Trigger Warning*

▶️Consent
▶️Support
▶️A healthy baby
▶️The Golden Hour
▶️Following a birth plan
▶️Carrying to full term
▶️Be treated like a human being
▶️Feeling safe
▶️Holding their baby first
▶️Going home “on time”
▶️Being present
▶️Being able to make choices
▶️Taking home a living baby

This list does not stop here and really tells us that it’s also about what “doesn’t happen” that can lead to trauma.

There are so many ways birth trauma can be caused or present itself. What doesn’t happen can be just as damaging as what does happen.

Share this with another mama so we can create a safer space for survivors to share their stories. If you’re comfortable, share what “didn’t happen” that contributed to your birth trauma ⬇️❤️‍🩹

“Hold the mom, not just the baby”

Such a common phrase we hear, but what does that even mean? 🤔

Many of your postpartum friends & family feel alone or struggle to manage everything going on! While we all can appreciate the snuggles our babies get, it can make a world of difference when we (mama’s) get support too! So, how can we support mama’s who may be struggling? ⬇️

Well, we can:

▶️Make them meals AND hold their baby while they eat it!
▶️Instead of pointing out a task that is incomplete, try doing it for her! 🫶🏼
▶️Tell her how WELL she is doing!
▶️Share stories & allow for her to share (or over-share) everything!
▶️Suggest that she connect with other moms
▶️Offer to set a timer for visits ⏲
▶️Let her know she’s not alone and if you’re able - offer to be her postpartum advocate 💕
▶️Keep supporting her, even after those first 6 weeks postpartum

Even participating in 2-3 of these can make a huge difference in a mama’s postpartum experience! Supporting mama’s can look different for everyone, but reach out and be present in their life! Let them know they’re doing a great job or offer a shoulder to lean on if something didn’t go as planned for her. You are all the village she desperately needs - we got this and so does she! 🫶🏼

❤️ Share this with a friend, family member, or mama who might find this useful ❤️
