it’s a blast from the past at !

even though i’m a 90s kid, my love for 80s pop culture runs deep - we happened to pass by during our vegas trip and we absolutely had to make a stop to check it out! as soon as you walk through the doors, you’re immediately immersed in nostalgia and it’s a must do for any 80s fan when you’re in town!

📍 4755 s maryland pkwy, las vegas, nv 89119

👾 they’re open tuesday through thursdays 11am to 9pm, and fridays through sundays 11am-2am (closed mondays).

🍟 they have food and drinks available for purchase, with most items on the menu under $15. we tried the monte cristo and the cap’n crunch milkshake and they were both pretty good!

🕹️ be sure to explore both rooms of the restaurant - there are so many fun easter eggs displayed throughout the store from a mini arcade to rubik’s cube chairs, and more!

🎤 and that’s not all! for some added fun, on fridays and saturdays, they have karaoke and trivia nights!

never have i ever been more happy to be at the premiere for season 4! 💜

last year, after waiting hours in the sun, i was lucky to score a seat in the fan section of the season 3 premiere, and i told myself that somehow i would make it to the season 4 premiere as an invited guest. i’m still pinching myself because manifestation is real and i can’t believe i finally got to meet the cast of one of my all-time favorite shows 😭

it feels super bittersweet because i am so excited for this new season but also sad that it’s their last one! to be able to have the opportunity to tell the cast how much the asian representation in this show has meant to me is something i will never take for granted. i wish i had more shows like this when i was younger, but i’m grateful that we have it now and that so many people will be able to see themselves in this beautiful and diverse cast! 🥹

huge thank you to for having me and to the entire cast for being so kind - last night was a dream come true! be sure to stream season 4 of on starting 6/8!

ad • happy opening to ! 🏳️‍⚧️

what a thrill and honor to be in the room for the world premiere of a transparent musical last night! from hearing a preview of a handful of songs a few weeks ago to seeing it all come together on stage, i am so grateful to have been able to witness part of the journey of this heartwarming musical.

the entire cast exudes so much joy and instantly captured my heart! i loved the songs and how relatable this story is - at the center of it all, this show is about family, love, and acceptance, and there’s no better time than now to be one of the first people to experience this musical. i truly believe this show is groundbreaking and i hope that it opens doors for more transgender stories to be told!

here’s everything you need to know about the show:

📍 135 n grand ave, los angeles, ca 90012

✡️ based off of the hit amazon prime original TV show “transparent” and written by transgender and non-binary artists (, , and ), this musical explores the intersection of jewish and q***r history while celebrating the imperfectly human aspects of a universally relatable family.

🎟️ ticket prices range from $40 to $129 and the show is playing at the mark taper forum tuesdays through sundays now through 6/25.

✨ the performance length is about 2 hours and 30 min, including one 15 min intermission.

🚘 self-parking is available in the music center garage for $10 at the grand ave entrance. i recommend getting to the theatre at least half an hour before show time!

welcome to the kit kat klub 🎩

and i checked out for the first time to see their production of cabaret! my super talented friends and star as sally bowles and cliff bradshaw, and it made me so happy to see them shine in these roles! the entire cast absolutely killed it and you’re not going to want to miss this special limited engagement!

save this post for everything you need to know about ’s production of cabaret:

📍 568 mount curve ave east, altadena, ca 91001

🎤 this show takes place in a berlin nightclub as the 1920s draw to a close and tells the tale of two love stories and the impact that politics and society has on their relationships. everything can change so quickly, but so many detrimental aspects remain if we are complacent and don't shine a light.

🎟️ ticket prices start at $35, and the show is playing thursdays through sundays now until 6/4.

✨ the performance length is 2 hours and 30 min, including one 15 min intermission.

🧥 doors open at 7pm and seating is general admission so definitely get there early. bring blankets and jackets! the venue is outdoors so it does get a little chilly out, but it’s a fun experience to watch the show under the stars!

🚘 there is an ample amount of free street parking along mount curve ave, lake ave, and marengo ave.

i just want to stay in that lavender haze 💜

visited ’ lavender festival for the first time and it was so cute! a lot of the lavender hasn’t bloomed yet (we were a bit early and checked out the festival during previews), but it was such a beautiful night out!

save this post for everything you need to know about the lavender festival:

📍 10600 highland springs ave, cherry valley, ca 92223

🎟️ ticket prices differ based on the bloom period, but start at $10 for adults, $8 for ages 65+, and $6 for ages 13-17. children ages 12 and under are free. i highly recommend getting tickets online ahead of time because it costs an additional $5 per person to buy tickets at the door.

✨ the festival is open select days from 5-10pm now through 7/23! for the rest of may, it is open fridays through sundays (plus memorial day monday). in june and july, it is open wednesdays through mondays.

🪻 peak bloom happens around mid-june to mid-july, so definitely check out the festival around then! i love that they are open during evening hours which makes enjoying the summer night a little more magical.

🍕 there are so many yummy lavender inspired food and drinks to try there! we ordered the fig and goat cheese sourdough pizza (thanks .rosie for the recommendation!) and the lavender lemonade and arnold palmer. everything was delicious and made fresh! the pizza booth was the longest food line and moves slow, so if you want to try it, make that the first thing you do before the crowd arrives!

🚘 parking is provided on site for $12! you can purchase a parking pass online when you buy your admission tickets.

the bottoming process 📚

invited me and .rosie to check out the world premiere of their newest show, “the bottoming process,” and wow - this production is exactly why i love live theatre!

written by and produced in partnership with , it made my heart so happy to see the AAPI and LGBTQ+ representation both on and off stage. while there were parts of the story i didn’t fully relate to, i still felt seen by this show. the discussion surrounding race and the model minority myth is very much relevant to this day, and the way this show dissects it is brilliant.

i love pieces like this that make you think, and the energy and intensity from the entire cast immersed and brought me along on the rollercoaster ride of the two main characters’ relationship.

here’s everything you need to know about “the bottoming process”:

📍 renberg theatre - 1125 n mccadden place, los angeles, ca 90038

✍🏼 this show is about two writers who meet and fall in love - or something like it. milo (played by ) is a fledgling writer who’s mostly funny on twitter. john (played by ) is a famed novelist. john is nearing middle age, while milo is flailing through his twenties. john is white - and milo is definitely not. as they mate, date and cohabitate, they grapple with issues of race, s*x, power and the model minority myth, all to find out who’s really on top.

🎟️ ticket prices are $35, with all monday shows being pay what you choose (love that makes theatre accessible for everyone)! the show is playing fridays through mondays now until 6/12.

✨ the performance length is 1 hour and 40 min with no intermission.

🚘 self parking is available for free at the structure across the street from the theatre, or you can find street parking as well.

huge thank you to for having me! and what a treat to hang out with the incredible after the show 🫶🏻

two worlds. one destiny. 🐒👑

i was incredibly honored to attend ’s advance screening of the first two episodes of !

this show is based off of the graphic novel of the same name by . it merges three seemingly separate storylines - a modern retelling of the monkey king from the old chinese folktale “journey to the west,” jin wang and his coming-of-age as a child of chinese immigrants, and danny (an “all-american boy”) and his chinese cousin chin-kee - which are eventually tied together at the end of the book.

as an american born chinese myself, i saw a lot of myself in jin (played by ). i still remember the embarrassment of bringing chinese food for lunch to school that i begged my parents to let me bring lunchables or get school provided lunch. i’m also not proud of this, but looking back, at times i did feel like i was “cooler” or “above” the other asian kids at school who didn’t grow up in america - similar to jin, i was desperate to assimilate and not be seen as “too asian” by my peers.

it’s not to say that i wasn’t proud of being chinese, because eventually i learned to love my culture. my high school was primarily made up of asian american kids just like me. seeing so many of them celebrate parts of who they were gave me the permission and courage to accept parts of myself, but in a sense, i still live in two worlds - to this day, i’m figuring out a way to seamlessly blend being chinese and being american together.

i’m excited to see the rest of the season, and i’m so grateful to have another new show that i can see myself in! it makes me feel less alone in my experience as a chinese american, but ultimately, i think there is something that everyone can relate to in this show, regardless of your ethnic background.

huge thank you to for inviting me and to the cast for taking photos with all of us after the panel! special shout out to for personally getting everyone to sign my book for me 🥹

be sure to stream all eight episodes of on beginning 5/24!

let’s go!

last night, invited me to be their guest to see an advance screening of ! this film has been highly anticipated on my radar and i am happy to say it’s as brilliant as i hoped it’d be and more! i related to this story on so many levels - from how it feels to be like an outsider in your own hometown to the characteristics of what makes someone “chinese chinese” (IYKYK) to just simply being able to see four leads who remind me of me - and that representation matters!

i felt all the emotions - and i don’t think i’ve ever laughed so hard or audibly gasped during a movie as much as i did last night. this film is a game changer, and i love the way it reclaims the asian narrative - this film is raunchy and hilarious, but most of all, it’s unafraid and proudly asian!

, .hsiao, , , , , and - thank you for giving us this story and telling it in such a fun and beautiful way! you made me feel seen and understood in a way that i didn’t even know i could be!

and shout out to - we went to high school together (you were one year above me!) and although we didn’t know each other personally, i’ve been following you throughout your career and i am so dang proud of you and all that you’ve accomplished, and all that i know you are going to do. your future is so, so bright and i thank you for being a constant inspiration and an advocate for the API community - i see you and i celebrate that! 🫶🏻

i’m already counting down the days until release date, because i desperately need to see again! please check out this movie when it hits theatres on 7/7 - it’s such a special film and you have to see it for yourself ❤️

had such an incredible time at last night at the ! i had heard so many good things about this show, so you bet i was ecstatic when i saw that was cast as catherine parr (we loved her in ’s tarantino and love actually productions) - so much so, that i had to dress up as her character! 💙

this stellar cast absolutely killed it - from the singing to the choreography, they really brought the energy and did not miss a beat!

save this post for everything you need to know about :

📍 6233 hollywood blvd, los angeles, ca 90028

🎤 this show is a modern retelling of the lives of henry viii’s six ex-wives - catherine of aragon, anne boleyn, jane seymour, anna of cleves, katherine howard, and catherine parr. i loved this unique take as it is told in the format of a pop rock concert!

happy teacher appreciation week! 🍎

it was so nice getting to see ms. l again after our reunion last year! i’m so grateful that we’ve been able to stay in touch since and that we were able to catch up last night over dinner 🥹

teachers are truly amazing and the impact that they have on our lives can last a lifetime. i think about ms. l and the way that ever since i was 7 years old, i have felt seen, understood, and cared for every time she spoke to me. even now, i still feel the same - she always made me feel like i could take on the world. time may have changed us, but her kindness and sincerity have remained the same.

sometimes it just takes one teacher to believe in you and give you the motivation to keep going. i’ve been lucky to have had so many wonderful teachers over the years who cheered me on throughout different chapters of my life and helped shape the person i am today.

if you ever get the opportunity, i hope you reach out and tell your teachers how much you appreciate all that they’ve done for you 🫶🏻

tell me everything 📚

loved getting to meet during her book tour for her new memoir “tell me everything”! i can’t wait to dive into this one and learn more about her story (also, did you know she is dutch indonesian?) 🫶🏻

i’ve spent a lot of this year reading (as of writing this, i’ve already read 33 books in 2023!) and in honor of AANHPI heritage month, i wanted to highlight some of the asian authors whose works i’ve loved:

💌 - i don’t think i’ve ever read any book series so quickly in my life! i love her “to all the boys i’ve loved before” and series (i’m obsessed with her films and shows too!)

💋 - “the kiss quotient” is a spicy read about a successful woman who hires an es**rt to be her practice boyfriend. i think this would make such a great film (and i’m petitioning for to play michael!)

🛒 - just finished “crying in h mart” and my heart broke reading michelle’s story. she details life before and after her mother’s terminal cancer diagnosis, all while learning to appreciate her korean identity and the things about her culture that her mother taught her.

👜 - the “crazy rich asians” series was a fun read and i of course love the film. the main characters’ family is truly wild and fascinating! i’m anxiously awaiting the next movie 👀

🎬 - i loved her memoir “making a scene”! it was heartbreaking, relatable, and overall inspiring. i was already a fan of constance’s, but her book made me love her even more.

🤳🏻 - “set on you” is about an influencer finding love and i loved all the pop culture references throughout the book! it was a light read and i was able to connect with the influencer storyline. i enjoyed the second book in the series “exes and o’s” a lot more!

if you have any other AANHPI author recommendations, please leave them in the comments below! 👇🏻

a little night music 💃🏻

last night i visited the for the first time to see “a little night music,” which is part of their sondheim celebration this season! i went into the show not knowing to expect, and to me, sondheim’s work is a very traditional style of theatre, but i loved how modern and sassy this production felt!

the entire cast was delightful to watch and i loved reuniting with the incomparable who plays petra in the show! i haven’t seen her since before the pandemic and i’ve missed her so much 🥹 (also on my drive home i was thinking about how i’ve known ruby for over 8 years now?! where has the time gone!)

it also meant a lot to me to see and leading the show (especially during AANHPI heritage month)! they both gave phenomenal performances and i loved their mother/daughter relationship in the show. and also had me cracking up the entire time with their characters’ friendship and quick wits! this is definitely a production you’re not going to want to miss!

here’s everything you need to know about the show:

📍 39 s el molino ave, pasadena, ca 91101

🎭 this show is about desiree armfeldt, a renowned actress, who is getting tired of her life on the road. when she randomly runs into an old flame at one of her shows, a series of romantic misadventures ensue, ending in a weekend in the country where passions erupt, jealousies flare, and hilarity triumphs over all.

🎟️ ticket prices for the show range from $39 to $157, and the show is playing tuesdays through sundays, now through 5/28.

✨ the performance length is 2 hours and 45 min, including one 15 min intermission.

🚘 parking is located directly across from the theatre in the playhouse plaza parking structure (680 e colorado blvd, pasadena, ca 91101) for $5, or there is an ample amount of street parking available close by. i recommend arriving at least 30 min prior to show time!

save this post for your ultimate guide to the best things to do in pasadena, griffith park, and burbank!

we decided to take things a little bit easier but we were still able to get a lot done on our second day with and .tsunami!

here’s everything we did:

🍽️ (55 s raymond ave, pasadena, ca 91105) - the venezuelan food is so yummy and you have to try the meat and plantains cachapas & the guava and cheese churros!

🛍️ old town pasadena (1 e colorado blvd, pasadena, ca 91105) - great for shopping, dining, and an outdoor stroll!

🏛️ pasadena city hall (100 garfield ave, pasadena, ca 91101) - a beautiful spot for photos and you may recognize it as pawnee city hall from ’s “parks and recreation.”

🎠 griffith park merry-go-round (4730 crystal springs dr, los angeles, ca 90027) - for my fellow disney fans, this carousel inspired walt to create disneyland! unfortunately it has been closed for refurbishment, but it’s still a cool piece of history to see in person.

🚂 travel town museum (5200 zoo dr, los angeles, ca 90027) - another great place for photos and it’s fun to see the vintage trains up close and personal! admission and parking are free.

👗 burbank retro row (magnolia blvd, burbank, ca 91505) - who introduced me to so many amazing vintage and secondhand shops in burbank! some of my faves are and !

bonus stops while you’re in the area:

🐭 (500 s buena vista st, burbank, ca 91521) - usually closed off to the public, but you can get a great photo underneath the entrance gates on alameda ave.

🎞️ (3400 warner blvd, burbank, ca 91505) - get a behind the scenes look at the WB studios and see the sets of your favorite shows such as friends, big bang theory, and more!

💫 (2800 e observatory rd, los angeles, ca 90027) - for anyone who loves the cosmos, this is perfect for all ages and admission is free!

🎥 (100 universal city plaza, universal city, ca 91608) - if you have more time, save a full day for theme park fun - the studio tour and super nintendo world are must do’s!

so happy to be reunited with and .tsunami, this time in LA!

we had so much fun playing tourist and showing them around our city! save this post for my personal guide to the best things to see, eat, and do in the westside of los angeles:

🍜 (2057 sawtelle blvd, los angeles, ca 90025) - their tsukemen is an absolute must and the reason why this is one of my favorite restaurants in LA!

🐻 - it was nice to visit kevin’s old stomping grounds! the campus is beautiful and has been used in films such as legally blonde, angels and demons, and the house bunny.

🍪 (926 broxton ave, los angeles, ca 90024) - stop by for some affordable and yummy cookies! it’s also right across from the iconic regency village theatre where a lot of big movie premieres happen.

🏛️ greystone mansion (905 loma vista dr, beverly hills, ca 90210) - this is a great stop for photos and a gorgeous view of LA (and it’s free)! you may recognize it from mariah carey’s “we belong together” music video, chilton academy in gilmore girls, and so much more!

🏨 (9641 w sunset blvd, beverly hills, ca 90210) - the pink and green aesthetic is so pretty and photogenic!

🌴 palm trees (beverly hills, ca 90210) - many of the streets in beverly hills are lined with palm trees, but the ones we used for our backdrop were on canon rd.

🧙🏻‍♀️ spadena house (516 walden dr, beverly hills, ca 90210) - also known as the witch’s house, it looks like it came straight out of a storybook! you can take photos outside, but please be respectful as this is someone’s private residence.

🛍️ (beverly hills, ca 90210) - always fun to window shop at all the designer stores here, and bonus - across the street is the beverly wilshire hotel which was used in pretty woman!

🧋 (8820 washington blvd, culver city, ca 90232) - the strawberry matcha latte with boba is a must try!

🏖️ venice beach (80 windward ave, venice, ca 90291) - finding street parking can be a bit of a nightmare, but once you grab a spot, make sure to check out the eclectic scene at venice beach!

i’m excited for more adventures together today!
