5TH OCTOBER, 2024

ACTIVITIES AND AMENDED TIME-TABLE

1. Public Notice announcing the Chairmanship and Councilorship Elections in all
the Local Government Councils in Enugu State.

2. 3rd - 14th June, 2024
Call for Political parties to submit information on conduct of party primaries
specifying the time, venue and day of party primaries.

3. 1st - 12th August, 2024
Conduct of Party Primaries including resolution of disputes arising from the
primaries.

4. 16th- 23rd August, 2024
Political parties are to obtain nomination forms, ENSIEC 7 and Councillorship
elections respectively on 16th - 23rd August, 2024

25th - 30th August, 2024

List of candidates nominated by political parties shall be forwarded to the
headquarters of Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission, No. 3 Achi
Street, Independence Layout, Enugu.

6. 1st - 6th September, 2024
Checking of candidates credentials, Councillorship candidates shall be checked
at various Local Government Headquarters while Chairmanship candidates
shall be checked at Enugu State Independence Electoral Commission, No. 3
Achi Street, Independence Layout, Enugu.

7. 9th - 11th September, 2024
Return of lists of qualified and unqualified candidates on forms ENSIEC 3 and
ENSIEC 4 for Chairmanship and Councillorship elections respectively to
political parties.

8. 12th - 13th September, 2024
a. Replacement of unqualified candidates by the affected political parties.
b. Names of two party agents with passport photographs attached to each polling
unit shall be forwarded to Enugu State Independence Commission, No. 3
Achi Street, Independence Layout, Enugu by political parties. Parties shall
endorse the passport photographs.

9. 14th September - 4th October, 2024
Campaign kickoff - Candidates and their parties shall campaign for the election
in such manner and in accordance with such guidelines as may be determined,
from time to time, by the Commission.

EFCC Arrests 100 Suspected Internet Fraudsters in Enugu

Operatives of the Enugu Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC have arrested 100 (One Hundred) suspected internet fraudsters at different locations of Enugu State.

The suspects were arrested in early morning sting operations on Wednesday, May 5, 2024 following actionable intelligence about suspected activities of an organised syndicate of internet fraudsters operating along Ibagwa-Nike and other locations in the Enugu metropolis.

Items recovered from them include three exotic cars, mobile phones and laptops.

The suspects will be arraigned in court upon conclusion of investigations.

The funeral service for the late Nollywood actor, John Odonwodo, popularly called Junior Pope, has commenced at St. Peter's Catholic Parish, Ukehe, in Enugu State.

The 43-year-old actor died alongside four others on April 10 when their boat capsized in the Anam River while returning from a movie shoot.

His family had earlier revealed that he would be laid to rest on May 17 in his Uwala Abaka, Ukehe hometown, in Nsukka, Igboetiti Local Government Area of Enugu State.

A certain lady who claims to be currently working for His Excellency Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and members of her group have indicated that they intend to publish photoshopped or AI-generated n**e pictures they would tag as those of Distinguished Senator Okey Ezea. They're likely to carry out their threat, for they have not relented in their campaigns of calumny against Senator Ezea: they're still circulating fabricated WhatsApp chats purportedly between him and the same lady who had been hired to do the dirty work.

By this disclaimer, we thank our people for ignoring the falsehood peddled by the propagandists and urge them to always press the DELETE button wherever the hirelings post their defamatory material.

Those who are after Senator Ezea or his job have shown they have nothing but distraction to offer Enugu North senatorial district. Their attempts to "pull Ideke down" with fabricated lies will surely end in shame on them and their paymasters. Ndi Enugu North have turned their backs on those who hated, oppressed and neglected them in the past. No number of photoshopped pictures or fabricated stories and WhatsApp chats designed to divert attention from or eclipse Senator Ezea's effective representation will be able to bury the truth.

We know that our people are no fools and can easily detect concocted stories shared on social media. We only wish to put the less wary on notice.

Court Orders Immediate Arrest Of Yahaya Bello

Yahaya Bello, the immediate past governor of Kogi State, has come under fire from the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The court accused Bello of trying to end the criminal prosecution that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, had brought against him.

The court, in the ruling that was delivered by Justice Emeka Nwite, on Friday, restated the order it made on April 17, which directed security agencies to arrest and produce him before it to answer to the 19-count charge that is pending against him.

According to the court, the former governor, by briefing lawyers to challenge its jurisdiction to try him, while he remained in hiding, showed that he “has no atom of respect and regard for the court.”

It held that Bello’s decision to file the application “is clearly showing his intention not to present himself for trial,” stressing that he ought to have made himself available upon becoming aware of the order of arrest that was issued against him.

“The law is settled that he who disobeyed an order of court and shown disrespect to the court cannot expect a favourable discretion of the court.

“The honourable thing the defendant would have done was to obey the order of court by making himself available.

“Section 287 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, mandates all persons and authority to give effect to orders of court.

“He has wilfully disobeyed the order of this court. An order of court of competent jurisdiction, no matter how it was obtained, subsists until it is set aside.

“A party who refuse to obey an order of court after becoming aware of it, is in contempt of court.

“He is not entitled to be heard or granted a favourable discretion. The refusal of the defendant to make himself available is solely to truncate the arraignment and prevent the court from proceeding further in this case.

The first-time lawmaker, who was the vice chairman of the House Committee on HIV/AIDS and Malaria control in the 10th Assembly, reportedly died on Friday morning in Abuja after a brief illness.

The spokesman of the House, Akintunde Rotimi, confirmed the death of the 46-year-old lawmaker

The statement confirming the death reads: “It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Hon. Isa Dogonyaro (Kogunan Ringim), the distinguished Member representing the Babura/Garki Federal Constituency of Jigawa State in the 10th Assembly of the House of Representatives

Hon. Dogonyaro passed away after a brief illness, today, Friday, March 10, 2024, in Abuja, at the age of 46.

“Hon. Isa Dogonyaro was a dedicated and passionate legislator who served his constituents and the nation with utmost commitment.

“He was a pillar in the House, contributing significantly to the development of legislation, particularly in the area of HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria Control, where he served as the deputy chairman of the House Committee.

“Elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, Hon. Dogonyaro was known for his integrity, diligence, and unwavering dedication to the welfare of the Nigerian people. His presence will be sorely missed in the hallowed chambers of the House of Representatives.

“Hon. Isa Dogonyaro was a detribalised patriot who was very jovial as much as he was an intellectual. He built strong bonds of friendship with Honourable Members from all parts of the country. He is survived by his wives and children.

“In this moment of grief, our thoughts and prayers are with his family, constituents, colleagues, and the people of Jigawa state. We pray for strength and comfort for all who mourn his passing. Details of his funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course.”

Major life points of Senator Ayogu Eze, a former senator of Enugu North Senatorial District who passed away yesterday, April 25, 2024, at the age of 65:

- Eze was born on November 23, 1958.
- He was a Nigerian politician who served as a senator for the Enugu North Senatorial District of Enugu State from 2007 to 2015.
- He was initially a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but later joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
- Eze had a background in journalism, working as a reporter and staff writer for The Guardian newspaper.
- He was a member of the Constitution Drafting and Amendment Committee, which made changes to Nigeria's 1999 constitution.
- Eze was described as one of the most powerful senators.
- He contested the 2019 governorship election under the APC but withdrew due to internal party conflicts.

PHOTOS: Three Buildings Collapse In Lagos Market Fire

The National Emergency Management Agency has disclosed that three buildings collapsed as a result of the fire incident at Dosumu Market in Lagos State on Tuesday.

This was disclosed in a statement posted on the official page of NEMA.

The statement read, "The NEMA Lagos Territorial Office has swiftly reacted to a fire outbreak at Dosumu Market, situated off Idumagbo Avenue in Lagos State.

"The Lagos State Fire Service and other stakeholders have been mobilised to the scene. A second building has collapsed, which was the origin of the fire.

"Currently, three buildings have fallen due to the fire's intensity.

"Although the fire has been fully contained, there are small fires remaining under the collapsed buildings, which are expected to burn out gradually."

A separate statement by the Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, revealed that no casualty was recorded.

The statement partly read, "Firefighting operations have been mobilised to contain the spreading inferno, which has already impacted adjacent structures on Docemo and Nnamdi Azikwe Streets after its initial occurrence at three buildings along Jankara Street.

"While progress has been made in partially subduing the blaze, ongoing efforts are focused on its complete extinguishment.

The firefighting operations face additional challenges due to the necessity of ensuring the safe evacuation of traders and the preservation of their merchandise within a densely populated area, necessitating rigorous crowd control measures.

"As of present, there have been no reported casualties, and investigations into the cause of the fire are actively underway."

Just when we thought that killings of our people at Uzo-Uwani LGA of Enugu State had stopped, non-state actors, on Sunday, emerged from the bush to murder several defenceless men, women and children at Adani. My heart bleeds!

I enjoin the state actors — police, DSS, Nigerian army and other security operatives — to fish out these marauders and deliver justice to them as quickly as possible.

While I extend my condolences to our people currently mourning the massacre of their loved ones at Adani, I urge our people to be patient and law-abiding while we wait for the government’s response to the situation.

Breaking News : Wike Demolishes Multi-Billion Naira Abuja Estate Being Developed By Anambra Billionaire

The Federal Capital Territory Authority on the order of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory , Barr. Nyesom Wike has demolished a multi- billion naira property being developed by an Anambra billionaire, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu and Brother,Linus.

The properly located close to Asokoro one of the choicest areas in Abuja is said to be siting on a 215 hectares of land.

According to Chief Linus Ukachukwu, the demolition was done in bad faith without any order of revocation.

He stated that they have sank in billions of naira into the project and that the buildings were at lintel level before the demolition.

He called on President Tinubu to intervene in the matter and wondered why the minister went on to demolish the property against two court orders.

PHOTOS: Building Collapses In Lagos Market Fire

One of the buildings affected by the fire that engulfed buildings at Dosumu Market in the Idumota area of Lagos State on Wednesday has collapsed.

PUNCH Online had earlier reported that fire razed three buildings at the intersection of Nnamdi Azikiwe and Docemo in Idumota.

Giving an update on the situation, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service disclosed, in a statement, that the fire spread to another building and one of the four buildings collapsed.

The statement by the Director, LSFRS, Margaret Adeseye, partly read, "An update on the fire emergency in Docemo reveals a significant reduction in the intensity of the blaze.

"The affected properties are identified as house numbers 47, 49, and 51.

"Tragically, house number 49 has collapsed due to the fire's intensity and the close proximity of buildings.

"Additionally, the fire spread to house number 53."
