Devotional: Be Like Joseph: When Things Morphed into a Living Nightmare, He Believed His God-given Dream and Worshipped Instead of Worried.

Have you ever been tempted to think (almost subconsciously) that, if you worry about it enough, then somehow you know it will not happen? Reminder: Worrying never stops bad things from happening. Jesus said, "Therefore do not worry or be anxious (perpetually uneasy, distracted)..." (Matthew 6:31) We're to trust, pray, and obey...yet not worry. What a load off of our minds! What a gift!

Consider this: What if Joseph had worried instead of worshiped? When Mary said that she was expecting Jesus, Joseph was tempted to either worry or worship the Lord and follow Him.

"And Joseph her [promised] husband, being a just and righteous man and not wanting to expose her publicly to shame, planned to send her away and divorce her quietly. But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, descendant of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a Son, and you shall name Him Jesus (The Lord is salvation), for He will save His people from their sins." (Matthew 1:19-21)

Like Joseph, choose to believe God. Replace worry with worship. And remember that, even on the wildest journeys of our lives, God never misleads you. Trust Him. "Seek and deeply long for the Lord and His strength [His power, His might]; Seek and deeply long for His face and His presence continually" (Psalm 105:4, AMP).

Like Joseph, welcome Jesus regardless of any outward conditions or inward worries. Determine today to seek "His face continually..." (See I Chronicles 16:11.) Amen?

Devotional:
Celebrate Christmas as a Shepherd: Drop everything, come as you are, repent, and be transformed by Christ the King of kings!
---
Are you ready for Christmas? The world says you need lots of "stuff" to be ready. But we actually need to drop everything and seek the King of kings in order to be ready. (Not marketable, but mesmerizingly true!)

Be like the shepherds who dropped everything to see and worship our Lord Jesus Christ in Bethlehem. Did they have perfect Christmas clothes? No. Did they even smell good? Likely not. Did they have the perfect gifts for Christ? Nope. But they opened their hearts to the most enormous eternal gift ever: our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. And they celebrated Christmas in the best way!

Today, are you accidently letting others set your priorities? Have you (or I) been distracted by the artificial Christmas lights when instead we need to focus on the Light of the world?

Or maybe Christmas hurts. I relate to that because of loved ones dying near Christmas. But let me share what has helped me: True Christmas is for the grieving. For the grieving, Christmas bursts forth hope in Christ because He didn't forsake us on a planet that forsook God. Christmas reminds us that Christ came for each of us and He is coming again. Christmas shows Christ coming for all of us who needed a Savior so desperately!

So, even when grief sinks deep, His love reaches there. His comfort comes. It's because Christ answers the core of every human desire. Immanuel: "God with us." Hallelujah!

The beauty of Christmas is Christ —pure & eternal. Oh, His love, His sacrifice...His joy! ❤️ Celebrate CHRISTmas with me as a shepherd this year. Come and abide in Him. Worship Him. Come as you are, receive Him, and He will transform you. Be present in the presence of the King.

"I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing" (John 15:5).

"Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift!" (II Cor. 9:15).

"Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory" (I Peter 1:8).

7 Tips to Transform the Holidays

Hey, no one (yes, no one!) has a perfect holiday. That's a myth. We actually can experience something infinitely better: We can experience someone: the reality of Jesus Christ indwelling us.

Reminder: If we experienced the original Christmas, nobody would say it contained perfect surroundings and gatherings. Yet His perfect presence made Christmas. That remains the case today.

We need to focus most on His presence and prepare ourselves to give everything to Him and experience His comfort and joy in the process. Let's focus on some tips. (Actually, I posted something on social media and I'm turning part of it into a devotional because I thank God that it resonated and helped people.)
7 Tips to Transform the Holidays:

Remove unrealistic expectations. Don't expect perfect. (Perfect meals and gatherings will happen when Christ returns.) Nobody (yes, nobody!) is going to have a perfect holiday. But anybody can savor the Lord's perfect love.
Don't own other people's problems/conflicts. Ask God for wisdom.
Focus on the Lord and literally count blessings (even though the holiday of Thanksgiving is over).
Read (and do!) Psalm 100. (See below.)
Just enjoy the best parts of Christmas and New Year's. Give yourself permission to not dismiss the "tiny" treasures in your life that God gave you (and others still desire and wait for).
When grieving, it's a good idea to rest more and reach out to someone else suffering this Thanksgiving.
Prayerfully get ready to give this Christmas. I'm not talking about just shopping. Instead, let's not just rush and buy stuff without heart prep. Instead, intentionally give God everything. Ask Him for His forgiveness. And ask Him to help you forgive so that you're truly ready to give whatever He leads you to give. It's the heart behind the gift (not the size of gifts) that matters. Only Christ can clean out our hearts and make us new. Ask Him to do that. He will.

Now, let's read (and do!) Psalm 100:
"1 Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all you lands!
2 Serve the Lord with gladness! Come before His presence with singing!
3 Know (perceive, recognize, and understand with approval) that the Lord is God! It is He Who has made us, not we ourselves [and we are His]! We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
4 Enter into His gates with thanksgiving and a thank offering and into His courts with praise! Be thankful and say so to Him, bless and affectionately praise His name!
5 For the Lord is good; His mercy and loving-kindness are everlasting, His faithfulness and truth endure to all generations.".

Did you notice how it all depends on the fact that the Lord IS good (even when things feel bad)? That's an irrepressible source of true joy and comfort. He will carry you and, as you open yourself up to Him, He'll give you the greatest gift: Himself.

And know we are praying for you. You ARE loved by God and His people.

Here is this week's radio program and devotional about when God answers prayer in ways we don't yet understand.

(Consider this devotional a prayerful pep talk and conversation meant to share some comfort.)

Yes, I know this very well: Many times, God answers prayer in ways we don't understand yet. (Emphasis on "yet.") When we who know Christ see Him face-to-face, everything will make perfect sense in the glory of His holy, loving presence. Experience a taste of His goodness today as He makes known to you the path of life.

His perfect love is what we need. His peace surpasses understanding here on earth. And someday, my fellow believers, we will understand His plan and relish in His perfect presence.

Seek God's face in this season of your life and ask Him to show you Himself in this challenging season. Focusing on Who God is as revealed in His Word and not just what we perceive will help shift focus.

As you yearn for answers to prayer, remember that the biggest Answer is Jesus Christ Himself. The enemy likes to distract us through lies spread through bad influences (e.g., dark entertainment sources). Be sure to stop watching things that don't point to the truth of Scripture. This will instantly help you as you desire to cope with various challenges.

Today, let's seek to be reliant not on our feelings but instead on God's Word. "The LORD gives strength to his people... (Ps. 29:11). Remember He cares. The cross more than puts that point across. And the empty tomb gives us fullness of hope.

At a relatively recent appointment, someone told me that I was her most positive and upbeat patient. I could honestly give God the credit. Yes, people in medical and private situations have observed my positive attitude in the face of significant physical pain from pre-existing conditions/injuries or from persecution after sharing my faith in Christ privately or on national media. You can ask my wonderful husband and family. It's not an act. It's a discipline.

This is no way a tribute to me. It's a tribute to Christ! (If you think that sounds strange, maybe you'd like to learn more about how to know Him. To know Him is to love Him and experience peace beyond any understanding... Visit the "Know God" page on PrayingPals.org.)

It's an intentional, Christ-enabled positive attitude. It takes daily discipline. It's not based on my feelings or my pain levels. It's a Biblically positive attitude rooted in Christ. And I give God all the credit for His grace, which is sufficient. It's why I'm getting my PhD: I deeply desire to help others (e.g. women and children) to hope, heal, and reach their God-given potential.

So, when you see my positive posts or articles, please know they come not from an out-of-touch or inauthentic attempt to sound good. It's because Christ is so good!

And He is bigger and more than able to grant us grace to have the grit to get through anything. That includes whatever you face right now. Take His Word to heart with me: "but He has said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you [My lovingkindness and My mercy are more than enough—always available—regardless of the situation]; for [My] power is being perfected [and is completed and shows itself most effectively] in [your] weakness.' Therefore, I will all the more gladly boast in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ [may completely enfold me and] may dwell in me" (2 Corinthians 12:9, AMP).

Excerpt from Stacie's devotional: I know what it is like to have hard days when your feelings bristle at the thought of thankfulness. But God knows what He is doing. He never misspeaks. His Word remains the final word and the ultimate best for us. So let's focus on it together about this:

"Rejoice always and delight in your faith; be unceasing and persistent in prayer; in every situation [no matter what the circumstances] be thankful and continually give thanks to God; for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus" (I Thessalonians 5:16-18, AMP).

Such thankfulness to God finds its root in a Christ-enabled follow-through to a choice to give thanks in the midst of anything. Choosing gratitude enriches your life, the lives of those around you, and even your brain. (As a doctoral student, I know how deeply this is true.) Most important, it pleases our loving Heavenly Father. (When we know Christ, we know God as our Heavenly Father. Learn more at the "Know God" page at PrayingPals.org.)

By not allowing bitter roots to choke out your joy and other fruits (of the Spirit), you can experience God's best in the midst of a test. Knowing that God never changes can help gratitude levels: We can always thank God for His character traits (e.g. faithful, holy, loving, creative, omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent, eternal, etc.)!

Devotional: No defeat exists in Christ! In tough times, don't retreat. Entreat the Lord instead.

When thinking about the future, don't forget to include our loving, holy, good God. No defeat exists in Christ! Don't retreat. Entreat the Lord instead. With Him, better days remain ahead for everyone who knows Him. His victory remains secure.

Instead of shutting down when times are hard, open yourself up to God and His opportunities. Let the authenticity of your faith in Christ shine and vividly contrast with the darkness of the times. Stay present. Entreat the Lord but don't retreat. Keep sharing the truth with love and grace.

No matter the times, He always enables us to do what He's called us to do as we love Him and neighbor. No one can silence the Good News. Hallelujah! Keep a vertical perspective and focus on Him while overcoming evil with good. In Christ, we are free. And, with His help, we can share and spread freedom at the deepest level. Heart changes matter the most. And nothing is impossible with our unchanging, loving, sovereign Savior and Lord Jesus Christ. Look up to Him!

Daniel 12:3 says, "And those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the sky above; and those who turn many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever."

And Matthew 5:16 reminds us of this: "In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven."

Keep shining. Keep loving. Keep sharing. Entreat the Lord but don't retreat. He is still good and doing good things. No one can silence God's voice. Hope in Him! And never give up while looking up!

Take God's Word to heart: "...that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light" (I Peter 2:9).

I've been on national/international media, sung for U.S. presidents and leaders, celebrities, etc. It doesn't matter the position or rank: What matters most is whether a person knows Christ. He is no respecter of persons. When you know Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, you know you'll go to Heaven. Regardless of position or title, everyone needs God's love and everyone needs Christ's saving power. Knowing Christ means more than knowing about Him. Knowing Christ means not just putting a cross on and using the title at will. Knowing Christ means believing Him in His Word, repenting, and submitting to Him alone to rule us rather than doing things on our own. Each of us needs to repent and receive Him as Savior and Lord. Each of us needs Jesus Christ...whether rich or poor, powerful or oppressed. We need Jesus.

Through Christ, you can shine, love, and live in contrast to the culture. Yes, shine! Love! Live! Savor the truth:

"For You cause my lamp to be lighted and to shine;
The Lord my God illumines my darkness" (Psalm 18:26).

"Let your light shine before men in such a way
that they may see your good deeds and moral excellence,
and [recognize and honor and] glorify your Father who is in heaven"
(Matthew 5:16).

Moreover, stop scanning the newsfeed and the news for the bad. Instead, open the Bible and your heart as you ask the Lord to show you what is good. Focus on Him

Devotional Excerpt: "The Lord wants to set you free. Don't allow past pain to grow into present paranoia to imprison you from experiencing God's best for you now. You are loved by God. He cares. And real Christians love you and care, too. Leave room for misunderstandings to be clarified. Be wise, but don't freeze in fear-based skepticism when encountering encouragement and hope in Christ."
