MERALCO LINEMEN HELPING CEBU

Meralco linemen take a break after working non-stop in Camp Lapu-Lapu in Cebu City. The Metro Manila-based electric power distributor sent a contingent of engineers and linemen to help in the power restoration efforts in areas ravaged by Typhoon Odette (Rai) in Cebu and Bohol.

Five Meralco linemen, who are currently deployed in Cebu to help the restoration efforts due to Typhoon , finally saw their wives as part of the Philippine Airlines (PAL) humanitarian flight to Cebu on New Year's eve.

Residents and clearing crew start the day cleaning off the debris and trash lying along the roads of Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City, December 30, 2021.

For four days, the Cebu City Government implements a massive clearing operation to deal with the damage left by Typhoon Odette.

Starting today, December 30, 2021 until Sunday, January 2, 2022, only essential workers are allowed to ply the road.

➡️ DTI PUBLIC ADVISORY:

The public is informed that the Department of Trade and Industry has issued a price freeze on basic necessities under its jurisdiction following the declaration of a state of calamity in typhoon hit areas in the Visayas and Mindanao.

Retailers are warned not to take advantage of the situation.

Violators shall be charged and penalized with criminal and/ or administrative penalties for violations committed under the Price Act and existing rules and regulations.

Fines shall in no case be less than One Thousand Pesos (1,000.00) or more than One Million Pesos ( (1,000,000.00) for violation of the Automatic Price Control or Mandated Price Ceiling.

For illegal price manipulation, a fine of not less than Five Thousand Pesos (5,000.00) nor more than Two Million (2,000,000.00) shall be imposed against the violator.

Among the commodities that are categorized as basic necessities and monitored by the DTI are Bread , Canned fish and marine products, Potable water in bottles and containers , Processed milk , Locally manufactured instant noodles, Coffee, Salt, Laundry soap, Detergent , Candles, Flour Processed and canned pork, Processed and canned beef and poultry meat, Vinegar, Patis, soy sauce, Toilet soap , Paper, school supplies, Cement, clinker, G.I. Sheets, Hollow blocks, Construction nails , Batteries, electrical supplies, light bulbs , and Steel wires.

As of 6 PM of Dec. 22, 2021, Visayan Electric has energized 14 out of 116 Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) pumping stations, and 5 out of the 11 hospitals within Cebu City.

The energized MCWD pumping stations supply water to about 13,000 households (per MCWD data).

The 5 hospitals that have been energized are Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, Cebu Puericulture and Maternity House, Chong Hua Hospital, Chong Hua Hospital - Mandaue and UCMed.

Restoration is taking longer in areas where Visayan Electric’s distribution facilities sustained heavy damage such as toppled poles, downed wires, and damaged transformers.

Our linemen from Visayan Electric, together with the engineers and crews from various distribution utilities from all over the country, have been working 24 hours a day to clear lines and restore power at the soonest and safest time.

We ask for your continued patience in these trying times.
