Wedding DJ tip for couples: CHOOSE THE SONGS YOU LOVE!

So many brides and grooms get caught up in trying to please all their guests (friends, family, colleagues) with the food, decor, formalities and even the music. Keep it simple: It's *your* day. Choose the dessert(s) you want. Talk to your wedding DJ about the songs you love.

Music, love and joy are infectious. If you're having a good time on the dancefloor, so will everyone else.

For Wedding DJs, "every wedding's the Super Bowl" - Nick Spinelli

In honor of the Super Bowl this week, I wanted to share some wisdom from Spinelli, a fellow wedding DJ and one of my favorite video podcasters. When it comes to the Super Bowl, there is no tomorrow. It's absolutely crucial that everyone participating in it prepares for it and gives 120%.

The same is true for weddings and every vendor that works at them. If a photographer misses the shot or if a DJ plays the wrong song, there's no do-over. This is one of the most important days in the life of a couple, and a good vendor should always treat it as such.

WEDDING DJ TIP: Just because a song sounds good on the radio, it doesn't mean they will get the dancefloor going at a wedding (or party, club, etc).

Sia, The Weeknd, Maroon 5, Morgan Wallen, Post Malone, Imagine Dragons, Ariana Grande, and Ed Sheeran are some of the most popular artists of the past decade, but most of their music will bring the energy down during dancing.

Don't get me wrong: Couples should request the songs they love. They should also talk with the DJ about what kind of vibe they're looking for and how much dancing they want. A good wedding DJ can help craft the perfect soundtrack for the best day of your lives.

Seriously.

If you're doing an outdoor wedding and the weather is bad (cold/snowy/rainy), please please please either move it inside or make the ceremony AS SHORT AS POSSIBLE. Your 20-minute vows might be as romantic as stealing a blue French horn on 'How I Met Your Mother,' but your guests will be freezing and miserable. Don't be like Ted.

As a wedding DJ in Upstate NY, I've seen this done before. Providing blankets is not going to help Grandma sit through a long, outdoor ceremony in the snow.

Engaged? Getting married? There's a lot of planning to do! As a wedding DJ, let me help you with your timeline for picking your music:

NOW:
- Book a DJ/band
- Choose vibe (classic? casual? party?)

6 months before wedding date:
- Start a Note on phone or a Spotify playlist, add songs/artists as you hear/think of them
- Choose a First Dance song... practice! (if the song feels long, talk to your DJ about trimming/editing it!)

3 months before wedding date:
- Fill out Music Planner* with requests forceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, dancing, intros, formalities, etc.

1-2 weeks before wedding date:
- Finalize music, go over it with DJ/band
