Miss Tourism Marks World Enviromental Day with Abibinsorma Foundation

Cleanliness indeed is next to godliness, Abibinsroma Foundation a Non-Governmental organization that champions issues of the environment, sanitation, climate change and advocates for societal needs, did not leave the United Nations Sanitation day unattended to as they mark the world environment day in Tema Community 4 Chamu Park with the support of the MP for Tema Central Hon Kofi Brako.

The day saw the energetic youth of the Abibinsorma Foundation putting in shape a dirty and a deplorable school park being occupied by some market women of the community.

The initiatives was considered to be carried in the area based on the dirty state in which the grounds has taken and with regards to the dying of some fruitful trees planted on the park to provide shades to cool the environment in times climate change.

The program was graced by Miss Tourism Ghana, 2019, Ms. Celestina Obeng, and her second runner up Princess Emmanuella Apuri Awedana who distributed some nose masks to exhibit and promote the preventive measures of Corona virus during the program .

The Schools SDGS Ambassador Gifty Baaba Hewton who also believes in championing environment Sanitation ,expressed the need to observe cleanliness in our daily activities and make it a habit in our quest to achieve a healthy life .

The energetic Nsorma Team believes in educating the public on the need to observe a healthy environment in this Corona pandemic era, and so they took the initiative to present themselves as Sanitation volunteers to set a good example for the public to follow.

The Chamu Park market is a set-light market established by the Tema metropolitan assembly to promote the observing of social distancing in other to reduce the over crowding situation in the community one main market.

On the visit of the Uzzi TV at the market on the invitation of the Abibinsorma Sanitation program, our camera captured some trenches full of waste water suspected to be a water drainage for the market breeding mosquitoes and serving as a dead trap.

The market was engulfed with filth , suggesting waste has not been under good management in the market from it time of inception, and management of the Tema metropolitan assembly have as well not been monitoring the sat-light markets located in the municipality for social distancing purposes to address the Sanitation issues .

Veronica buckets and other sanitizing aids provided to the market women have been dismantled and misplaced.

In an interview with Joel one of the Coordinators of Abibinsorma at the scene on Friday, he explained that the current corona pandemic and the Sanitation state of the market was an alarming situation that needed an urgent attention, He stressed on the need to have a healthy environment under all circumstances and not just in time of crisis or pandemic .

He appreciated the effort of the Abibinsorma in promoting the United Nation’s Sanitation Goal.

Meanwhile the Tema west MP hon Kofi Brako have started putting up measures to solve the Sanitation issues and maintain sanity in the market after the visit of Abibinsorma .
