CLIENT – How much will it cost to do this job?

CONTRACTOR - $2800-$3500 dollars.

CLIENT: That’s too expensive for this job.

CONTRACTOR: How much do you think it should cost?

CLIENT: $800 max! It’s a simple job!

CONTRACTOR: I can’t do the job for so little.

CLIENT: People in your line of work wants to make too much of a huge profit! Can you cut me a deal?

CONTRACTOR: I’m sorry you feel this way. Why don’t you do the job?

CLIENT: I would, but I don’t know how to do any of that.

CONTRACTOR: For $900, I can teach you everything you need to know to do the job. You can then use $800 to do the job, and you’re still saving $1,100. Also, you will obtain all the knowledge and the experience for the next time you need to do this job better than YouTube university.

CLIENT: Deal!

CONTRACTOR: Great! To start, you need to buy Equipment. You'll need speakers, cables, mixers, microphones, music subscriptions, a laptop, dj controller, etc.

CLIENT: But, I don’t have any of that and I can’t buy all that for just one job!

CONTRACTOR: Ok. I can rent you my equipment for another $300. You’re still saving $800.

CLIENT: That’s cutting my savings, but I will rent your equipment.

CONTRACTOR: Perfect! I’ll be back Tuesday and we can start.

CLIENT: Wait! I can’t Tuesday. I only have time today.

CONTRACTOR: I’m sorry, I only teach others on Tuesdays. I have to prioritize my time and my equipment needs to be at other jobs I have.

CLIENT: Ok then. I will take time off work on Tuesday.

CONTRACTOR: Oh, I forgot. You're going to need a truck or SUV for all the equipment.

CLIENT: I don’t have a truck!

CONTRACTOR: I guess you’ll have to rent one.

CLIENT: You know what? I’ve been thinking. Probably is better for you to do the job. It’s better to pay you to do the job right and not having to go through all that hassle.

CONTRACTOR: Good thinking. Sign here and let me get to work and it's 20% down, the rest a week from the event.

This is the truth.

People are not just paying for a job, they are paying for knowledge, experience, equipment, time, family sacrifices, and other things you bring to the table.

For those of you who attended the Richmond Weddings / RVA Weddings show at the always amazing Richmond Main Street Station, here's a throwback to a wedding I did at Main Street Station:
In March 2017, Aleksandar and Lauren met in New York City through the online dating app "Bumble." For their first date, Aleks cleverly chose Fred's Cafe, a quirky bar where patrons put photos of their dogs on the wall... happily satisfying Lauren's love for all dogs. They connected over their mutual love of travel, food and cultures. They grew together through countless adventures across the U.S. and around the world. When they're not traveling, they may just spend Saturday afternoon strolling the streets of NYC.

This whole year, I've always known that November was going to a pivotal moment for me with both Wedding MBA and the DJ Collective. I learned so much and I'm so ready to apply the knowledge to my business, making me a greater expert for my couples. Little did I know that I was also going to meet the most amazing woman (also a wedding pro) who matches me perfectly. I had honestly given up on dating, but this girl literally knocked me off my feet. And with her flying from Southern California to Atlanta next week, I'm super excited for what the future holds. Trust me when I say, this is the stuff that makes movies.

Oh but wait, there's more. I've decided to put the bus on the market and get a place in Atlanta. I'll be putting all my time and energy into the Atlanta market with my rebrand as a curator of love stories, helping with proposals, weddings, anniversaries, and date nights.

So quick recap: I had an amazing experience at two conferences, I met the love of my life, I'm selling the bus, and I'm all in on Atlanta.

On this date in 1973 in the rec room of an apartment building on Sedgwick Avenue in the Bronx, an eighteen-year-old by the name of Clive Campbell threw a back-to-school party with his younger sister Cindy.

Friends and neighbors danced to the familiar sounds of artists like James Brown and Aretha Franklin — only something had changed…

Behind two turntables, Clive, better known as DJ Kool Herc, played two copies of the same record, a technique known as the merry-go-round where one moves back and forth, from one record to the next, looping the percussion portions of each track to keep the beat alive.

And thus, Hip Hop was born.
