Whenever I find myself watching vlogs, I always ascertain myself thinking of what is the value of vlogging? Does it have any worth or it is just a habitual sort of thing that we are curious about what someone else’s doing?

But what is vlogging? A record of your thoughts, opinions, or experiences that you film and publish on the internet. Vloggers are free to make their own content about whatever they desire, no matter how controversial or esoteric the topic is.

It became a widespread phenomenon all over the world. It’s a new way to express themselves and affect us with their opinions and ideas that can metamorphose our beliefs and attitudes. Discovering new things, experiencing new adventures, meeting strangers, creating new memories, making make-up tutorials, and reviewing products. Seeing them discussing a certain issue in front of a camera, I can sense that they are devoted in it and it’s their passion.

Have you ever heard a colloquy, praising the man behind this exordium? “Welcome back to another episode

He chose this career for I conclude that this route is what his heart embrace, his mind conceives and his soul dwells. A comedian that paints a smile on the face of his viewers and make them cachinnate until their tummies ache. A bucket of felicity.

And here comes Michelle Dy, known for her exceptional make-up tutorials. She had moments of asthenia where she started to believe she needed someone to save her but then, she discovered that she is the heroine in the story. Even though she received a lot of loathing and downfall, she remained stalwart to her career and dauntless in facing the criticisms. She substantiate that what is the use of allure if you don’t have intellect. According to her, make-up serves as our aid in building our self-esteem and confidence. Michelle Dy is also one of the Ilocos Pride. She is a product of Ilocos Norte National High School and a former singer of Samiweng.

Vlogging is not just about ‘prosumers’ which is producing and consuming content at the same time, but it is about loving what you are doing, about sharing yourself to the world with full of confidence and believe in your own having the courage to face all the hatred and bad things that the universe may divulge to you. Be who you are, for you are a madness, a beautiful irony where perfections and flaws are the best of friends.

Global Warming Effects on Earth
by Alliah Quilal-lan

Global warming is expected to have far-reaching, long-lasting and, in many cases, devastating consequences for planet Earth. Already, global warming is having a measurable effect on the planet. We can observe this happening in real time in many places. Ice is melting in both polar ice caps and mountain glaciers.

Lakes around the world, are warming rapidly — in some cases faster than the surrounding environment. Animals are changing migration patterns and plants are changing the dates of activity. Global warming may also lead to extreme weather other than cold or heat extremes.

This matter is very crucial but we don't actually give much attention to it. We all seem to be careless about our mother nature. We, humans must be the first one to take actions to whatever it is that's going to be beneficial and also for the greater good of our nature. Humans are ignorant individuals, where all the wrong doings seems to be just extremely done in a natural way- in the essence that people have this trait wherein it's already part of daily living like it is all normal and they just keep on doing it even though it is wrong.

The things around us are mostly taken for granted, like the trees are being cut for unreasonable purposes or just to have a location for a building and whatnot, burning of plastics, having polluted water and air which can definitely lead to serious health risks.

Netizens turned Quiboloy in to a meme after his video about stopping the Mindanao earthquake boomed.

On his regular two-hour religious TV program, “Give Us This Day”, cult leader Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, claimed that he was the one who stopped the earthquake in Mindanao on air last October 30, 2019.

“When it quaked yesterday I was there. I said to the quake, stop! And it stopped,” he said on the show. In his straight, blank face, he also told his viewers to thank him for stopping a dangerous phenomenon that might have caused numerous deaths.

A lot of netizens find this act ridiculous and funny. Social media users created different types of memes about his remarkable line, “lindol stop.” It has been more than a week since the interview happened but the rising amount of shares of the posts are unstoppable. A lot of user accounts have put Quiboloy’s face on their profile pictures on Facebook and other social media platforms.

While memes like these continue to spread, there is still a possibility of an earthquake to shake Mindanao. Casualties have been reported and different groups from all over the world also continue to extend assistance. NDRRMC still posts Mindanao under a blue alert status which means disaster officials are on a standby to ensure that there will be enough manpower in case of emergency.

SIRMATA's New EIC, A Sophomore
by Jamico Jingco

Althea S. Dela Cruz, Bachelor of Arts in Communication, Sophomore, will lead this academic year’s Sirmata, the official college publication of the Mariano Marcos State University.

It is new for the publication to have and editor-in-chief as young as a sophomore, and when asked what was her motivation in applying for the editorship, “Personally, I’d like to think that it’s an open door in the hierarchy of improvement in a way that I would like to challenge myself and the position itself. There were foul notions against the publication, and I, as one of the previous staff, this gave me a vigor to stir and arouse the subdued ink of the pen. Truth be told, I was terrified at first, however, my decision is solely based on the will to elevate and empower the publication,” Dela Cruz stated.

Dela Cruz was part of last year’s editorial staff as a literary writer and deemed it necessary to negate the notion that Sirmata is dead, thus she wants to revive the reputation that’s been lost.

“I’m aware of the loophole of the publication's position last school year, but this can only give me a potent force to uplift what was needed to accomplish, and that is representing the truth,” she said.

Dela Cruz wishes to make a new brand as EIC and when asked about how she would differentiate herself from past editors, “I know all of them did what was best for the publication, and that we were fighting for the same battle – just in a different way. We are fighting for freedom, for the truth, for the mobility of the pen and paper,” she replied.

When asked about her plans for the publication, “I wouldn't want to spoil other details, all I could tell is that, we are working at our best to recuperate and heed the attention of the studentry,” she answered.

“If you want to defy the average, come and discover what you love, do not settle for mediocrity. Writing and illustrating and unravelling your thoughts and voices will be the salvation of the unheard,” she added.

Rise of Tuberculosis
by Princess Caraoa

Sarrat, Ilocos Norte—Rural Health Unit (RHU) reported severe cases of Tuberculosis (TB) and Dengue Virus anxious to rise within the end of the year. RHU Sanitary Inspector Head, Sinamar Hilda Agno said on the interview last Friday, November 8, 2019.

“We’ve been monitoring the cases until the year ends. Since the year has not yet finished, we’re expecting it to increase the records. Also, we’re constantly reminding the residents, to consult the doctor if they experience the symptoms, and not to ignore it.”

Tuberculosis (TB) is a disease caused by bacteria called Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The bacteria usually attacks the lungs, but they can also damage other parts of the body. Dengue fever is caused by any one of four types of dengue viruses spread by mosquitoes that thrive in and near human lodgings. When a mosquito bites a person infected with a dengue virus, the virus enters the mosquito. When the infected mosquito then bites another person, the virus enters that person's bloodstream.

“Health is wealth, and we’re all reminding the people of Sarrat to regularly visit the Municipal RHU to check their health conditions," Agno said.

Dengue Outbreak in the Philippines
by Nicole Frances Yapo

Dengue cases in Ilocos Norte extended to over a thousand; number of casualties reached a total of 8, the Provincial Health Office States—According to the Provincial Health Office, dengue cases reached a number of 1,388; with a total of 2 deaths – in the entire Ilocos Norte, from the month of January to August, 2019.

Dengue experts have been distributed in various LGUs to monitor patients undergoing fever. Information dissemination is now circulating throughout localities to ensure cleanliness and elimination of stagnant waters, where dengue-carrying mosquitoes breed.

According to Emiliana Sabado, a Barangay Service Point Officer (BSPO) of Nalupta, Batac City, dengue fever occurs when a dengue-infected mosquito sucks on the blood of an individual. People may acquire this indoors especially on secluded areas like closets, behind the curtains, and under couches or beds; as well as dark places, particularly those with abandoned, stagnant water lurking around. Sabado also states that dengue mosquitoes look for water-filled containers to breed their eggs, be it clean or muddy water that has been stagnant for a few days.

A health worker of the same barangay, Beth Iquin, says that the warning signs of dengue include recurring fever, severe headache, abdominal and joint pain, as well as rashes in some cases. Since a person infected with dengue will have low levels of energy and is therefore more susceptible to to infections or viruses, Iquin states that it is a must to drink plenty of fluids, eat food rich in nutrients, minerals, and Vitamin K to revitalize the blood platelets, and have a complete bed rest. Doctors will then determine a suspected dengue victim through a blood test, and inspect the current symptoms of the patient.

As health officers, Sabado and Iquin, along with fellow workers, make it a point to examine dirty areas of the barangay regularly, such as canals and clogged waterways where dengue mosquitoes lay their eggs. The city officials also provided fish-eating mosquitoes to be placed in water bodies to help eliminate the spread of dengue. They also inspect houses to make sure there are no containers, bottles, or cans filled with stale water. In dengue-prone areas, however, barangay officials administer fogging in order to reduce the number of dengue-carrying mosquitoes.

RICE PRICE RANGE
by Jessa Libed

Pinili, Ilocos Norte—A kilo of rice costs almost P50 as of this month because of the high value of products. Despite the price increase, the unmill rice still remains low.

Mr. Philip B. Galang, the head of Department of Agriculture (DA) Pinili, gives his statement about the issue on unmilled price range. He stated that farm mechanization should continue until farmers become self sufficient. The irrigation system should be improved, rehabilitation and construction should also be deemed as priorities, and capital inputs should be subsidized to help the farmers in marketing their product. He also stated that the farmers are asking for an additional amount of price hike for them to recover their investment in farming.

The Government launched a project for the farmers’ assistance, where the subsidy for the farmers can change their lives for the better and contribute to their capital for farming.

Ebooks vs Printed Books: Which One is Better?
by Joefel Bolo

The battle of new technology is getting tighter now and while everything around us is getting change and switching up to the digital formats. The question of ebooks vs printed books is in the persistent debate. There are a lot of factors to consider when we are discussing the matter about the ebooks and printed books and it really chills down to the reader’s preference. There are a lot of pros and cons on the both sides but first here’s the 5 reasons why books are better than ebooks.

A touch of paper: As for an avid reader, holding and touching the book is really a beautiful and immersing feeling. Just smell the paper, the nice binding and flipping through the pages of the book. It is indeed a tradional one but it is really amazing to feel the spirit of reading through a printed paper. and ebooks doesn’t have this feeling.

The images and illustrations: When you are ready to pay off the book you want and you really want to feel more interactive about it and huge thanks to the vibrant images and illustrations offers in the printed book. and in ebooks it also offers images but some of them can be limit to black and white.

Annotating Feels: It’s really good to annotate books using color pens, highlighter and use of shapes, symbols, lines, and drawings. and the highlight feature is also available to ebook but its really hard sometimes and its limited.
Go where you want: It’s easier to go to your current pages and your favorite chapters. unlike with ebook, you need to type or swipe it.

Book Swap and Sharing: It’s really nice to share your favorite book to your friend and to your family, wherein they would really feel the essence of reading and the same time sharing. but in the ebooks, it requires you so may process to share the book you really want.

Ebooks can be one a best friend to a person who is really on-the-go to everything. I refer ebooks such wattpad as available from both android and iOS devices, but the specific ebook reader I’m talking is the kindle, kobo and pocketbook. So what are they? Like for example the famous kindle from amazon, it’s like a size of a normal tablet but the screen is like a book because of its e-ink technology. And with that technology, you can really feel that you’re like really reading a real book.

So, here’s also the 5 reasons why ebooks is better than printed books.

The easy factor: Reading on an ebook reader is cool, and you don’t need to use your two hands because you can easily swipe it. And also you can adjust the brightness that allows you to read in the dark without any eyestrain. but you can’t smell the book.

Access to millions of books: You can add books to your library in seconds, and its lighter to carry than a paperback or a hardcover book. It’s like you can carry a library in your pocket. unlike with printed, sometimes you just need to wait for your book when your ordered and its really hassle to search in a bookstore.

Inbuilt Dictionaries, Wikipedia and X-ray: Amazon Kindle’s offers this feature and it’s really important because you just need to long press a word you don’t know and then definition will be easily displayed. The X-ray feature also allows you to dive with summary and the characters of the book). in printed books, you really need to have a printed dictionary on your side to look for words.

It’s cheaper: After buying an ebook reader, you can easily access the store and its really cheaper than printed books. remember there is always shipping fee for your books especially if you order online.

Free samples: You are always in the position of debating yourself of what to read next and huge thanks to free samples of ebooks, because you can have read the first and the two chapter of the book. in printed books, your choice is to just read the blurb at the back of the book.

Which is better?
My cousin Jhesica Cadiz who introduce me to books, and she’s more preferable with printed books, and said“some may not understand but a book has its distinct smell. Personally when I’m holding a book it’s like I’m transported in a different place oblivious to anyone. It’s Just me and my book and that feeling is what I want, always.”

We’ve been doing book swap with my friend Nicole Yapo and it was too obvious to her because she’s really more into printed books. “personally, I prefer printed books. Yes, it is true that ebooks are more convenient these day because of the fast-pacing emergence of reading – that is, to spend my time situated in a comfortable corner whilst holding a paperback/hardcover, absorbing every single word and page, my eyes traveling as I move from one sentence to another, completely immersed and relaxed along the process.

We’ve really come to our own personal preference. The both sides are really impressive and I am still debating myself whether I’m with the ebooks or with the printed books, since I got my kindle last September, I can say that the reading experience is so easy. From it’s e-ink technology, you’re like really reading with a real book.

My favorite feature would be the inbuilt dictionary because the definition is so quick. I am still obsessing with printed books, I had tons of collection of books in my room and I’ve really agree to my cousin that physical books transported you to another book. The feeling of opening and closing the book is really good, and I’m radiating with passion of reading. You can’t deny the fact that both forms of content have their advantages and drawbacks, so I guess why not enjoy the best of both worlds of reading.

Christmas Ngarud!
Grazielle Reina Laran

Ber months approaching in to the province feels like snow pouring because the most festive time of the year is right around the corner. Setting up the decorations and playing Yuletide songs as early as September to the Day of the Three Kings on the first week of the following year makes Christmas in the province long and no one is complaining. The roads here can get so congested during Christmas time and see people roaming to get their Christmas list done. Holidays in here can be a little hassle but worth all the hustle.

The province of Ilocos Norte celebrates Christmas like it’s a feast, indeed
it is a feast, a long one. Households would place some Christmas decorations as early as October. You’ll be surprised when some children go in front of your house or even anywhere on the streets there are children who will be singing Christmas carols around late November. You’ll also see these giant, well lighted and decorated trees as a sight to behold city street, malls, parks and office building facades. Ilocanos can be so creative and unique to think of improvising materials for their Christmas trees using local materials to a more exquisite form of art.

Christmas would not be complete in Ilocos without tinupig. This native
delicacy is made from ground glutinous rice and combined with buko strips, coconut milk, sugar or molasses and sesame seeds. It is then wrapped in banana leaves and cooked over live charcoal grill. This delicacy may not look appetizing specially if the banana leaves wrapping is burned but surely you will love it when you tasted. The cooking is usually done on upon the preparation of the noche buena. You should not missed
an Ilocano Noche Buena because food that our served will surely satisfy
your holiday craving with the touch of Ilocano recipes.

Ilocanos are also food or organizing Christmas parties that is classified in many celebrations. Schools and offices celebrate before they go on their own vacations. These parties usually highlight, Monito Monita or the exchange of gifts. Christmas is the season of gift giving. Ilocanos are known to be kuripot but Christmas is exempted because one can be generous by heart. These parties for the family are usually for reunion. Wherein before the year ends they get to see each other even those who came home from abroad just to celebrate
Christmas with their families.

The early masses held before Christmas called ‘Simbang Gabi’ or ‘Misa de Gallo’ are also being celebrated by the Ilocanos. Ilocanos are firm believer of the higher being which is Christ who is the main
reason why are hey celebrating this occasion. There is also a mass during Christmas Eve and Christmas Day which is being attended by lots of Ilocanos. The belief they have is that it is rightful to celebrate with Him and thank Him for all the blessings bestowed before the
year ends. This is the main reason why there are belens that are placed on houses or even establishments and parols huge or not. Because these stuff symbolizes His birth, the birth of our savior.

The entire this is not possible without the Ilocano values presented and used to not spoil the celebration. Ilocano value such as resiliency is a great attribute as they celebrate Christmas because even they had the roughest and toughest day ahead they will still celebrate Christ￾mas light headed meaning positive reigns and their is no room for passiveness. Ilocano values completes a true Ilocano Christmas.

Parental Pressure: Know when a parent is being supportive, or demanding
by Anna Sherina Mariñas

Parental pressure arises from a well intended place of concern for the child and their future, but it is a natural human instinct to pin one’s hopes and dreams on someone else. Parents tend to pin their unfulfilled dreams on their children and thus push them to pursue courses and careers they might not want to or do not have the ability for. We all want what’s best for our children. But our idea of what is best for them might not always jibe with theirs.

Often parents will give a nudge towards the decision they think is correct, trying to find that delicate balance between encouraging and pushing too hard. Parents are one of the first socializing agents in our lives and form the most intimate relationships with their
children, experiencing discontent from that relationship in the form of parental pressure can result in low self-esteem, losing interest in things they previously enjoyed, withdrawal from close interpersonal relationships like family and friends, burnout, excessive worrying, and emotional trauma.

Mostly, parents want the best for their kids, and it’s surprisingly easy to put too much pressure on them. That’s why it’s important to know when a parent is being supportive, or demanding.

Teenagers share their experiences regarding parental pressure:“It’s something that is so hard to reject especially that it’s a pressure coming from the people who raised you. Parental pressure limits child’s life choices, which shouldn’t be. The pressure coming from them makes their children afraid of failing to the point that if they fail, they will question their self-worth," says Leianne, a first year college student.

“They tend to compare me with my other classmates. Which is for me it is unfair, they should be proud of what achievement I receive” says Rae, a high school student.

“They don’t want me to take a business course instead, they want me to take nursing. So now I can’t decide which one to choose” says Ann, a senior high school student.

“91 as an average is not enough, they should not compare or put pressure because we have different intellectual capability. And according to them, they do this for me to be successful and to have a brighter future” Christine, a high school student.

Being a teenager is tough, you have to deal with schoolwork, family, and friends, all while trying to figure out who you are or what you really want in life. As a parent, it is your responsibility to help your child feel secure mentally and emotionally and develop their self-confidence and worth.

Positive parenting is key and it starts with: Introspection, review your interactions with your child. Encourage, Encouragement coming from parents, can be a child’s stepping stone to success. You are a key player in your child’s life and shall be the one your child will depend on to learn confidence, hard work and excellence. Interact, you must regularly interact with your child and build a friendly relationship with them so that they can seek refuge in you.

Good parenting requires parents to nurture their child’s strengths and help out with their weaknesses instead of forcing attributes upon them. Make sure your child is happy with what they are pursuing. There will be days when your parentsgets mad at you for not doing what they want you to do. You can’t control everything that happens to you, but you can definitely control how you deal and react to them. If you stay cool and levelheaded, you’ll surely find a solution to any problem that comes your way.

The more parents pressure their children to succeed the more they feel like failures when they’re not successful. Parental pressure can
make children miserable. It's healthy to want to bring out the best in your child. But sometimes, parents put children under so much pressure to perform well that their children suffer serious consequences.
