When you’re a professional creative, people often underestimate what you do, how you do it, and how long it takes you to do your work.

Until it’s gone.

There’s a tendency to believe that our careers are a joke.

After all, it can’t be “that hard” to slap something together in a brand style you’ve never seen/heard before that hits the mark, goes viral, and solves the organization’s problems. Right?

Wrong!

Your marketing professionals are not genies you can abuse into submission to promote a stream of conscious ideas or blurry photos you took on your way to the office.

They are often empaths who care deeply about their creative work and how they can use it to bridge gaps in communication between you, your partners, and your customers.

Practices like excessive editing, bottle-necking projects, underpaying and demonstrating an unclear vision send clear signs to your creative team to gear up for misery and quietly plot their escape.

We’re all feeling the pressure to raise money and awareness for our investors, but remember, often the ones suffering the most are those doing the bulk of the work.

The truth about motivation is that it requires discipline over passion. No matter which line of work you choose or how aligned your path is to God’s will for your life, all roads require sacrifice and skill. We can’t be all things, to all people, at all times. This inevitably means that to be successful at anything, it’s going to take time and hard work. A fact that always seems better in theory than in practice.
