We're not sure, yet, but we do know David Graeber's Bu****it Jobs has come dangerously close. In it, Graeber talks about the proliferation of a whole class of meaningless work that can make up up to 40% of all white collar jobs.

The book enumerates the different ways in which science can go wrong, the replication crisis, and what we may be able to do to get it back on track.
