Amar Singh, Rajya Sabha MP and former Samajwadi Party leader, passes away at Singapore hospital

Expelled Samajwadi Party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh passed away on Saturday after prolonged illness. He was 64. The politician breathed his last at a Singapore hospital where he was undergoing treatment for the last six months. According to media reports, Singh was in an intensive care unit (ICU). His family was present at the hospital when he breathed his last. Singh had in 2013 suffered kidney failure.

The annual Hajj pilgrimage performed by Muslims from around the world has begun in Saudi Arabia, dramatically scaled back because of coronavirus.

International visitors have been banned from making the journey to Mecca, to try to curb the pandemic.

Only 10,000 pilgrims are expected, as opposed to about two million usually.

The vast majority normally come from abroad, but this year the only foreigners allowed to attend are those who reside in the kingdom.

Those taking part were subject to temperature checks and virus tests as they began arriving in Mecca at the weekend, AFP news agency reports.

Worshippers will also have to quarantine before and after the pilgrimage. Face masks will be mandatory at all times.

Lord Ram's images to be displayed in Times Square to celebrate Aug 5 Ram Temple Groundbreaking.

Images of Lord Ram and 3D portraits of the grand Ram Temple in Ayodhya will be beamed across the giant billboards in the iconic Times Square, New York on August 5 to celebrate the temple's groundbreaking ceremony, with organisers describing the commemoration as a one-of-a-kind and historic event.

Prominent community leader and President of the American India Public Affairs Committee Jagdish Sewhani on Wednesday said that arrangements are being made to celebrate the historic moment in New York on August 5, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to lay the foundation stone for construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

Beginning from 8 AM on August 5 till 10 PM, images of the words 'Jai Shri Ram' in Hindi and English, Lord Ram's portraits and videos, 3D portraits of the temple's design and architecture as well as pictures of the laying of the foundation stone by Modi will be displayed across several billboards, which are among the most striking and popular features of Times Square, one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world.

Sewhani told PTI that among the prominent billboards that are being leased for the occasion are the giant Nasdaq screen and the 17,000-square-foot wrap-around LED display screen, considered among the largest continuous exterior displays in the world and the highest-resolution exterior LED screen in Times Square.

India’s gold demand declined by a staggering 70 per cent in the three months to June, hitting the lowest quarterly figure in 11 years due to the closure of retail shops and factories following the Covid-induced nationwide lockdown during most of the period. A sharp increase in the price of the metal fuelled the downtrend.

“The nationwide lockdown and high prices acted in combination to keep India’s gold demand to a record low at 63.7 tonnes during April-June quarter. Barring of a couple of days, retail jewellery stores remained shut for most of period. Thus, the April-June quarter was a washout for India’s gold demand,” said Somasundaram P R, Managing Director, India, World Gold Council, while releasing Gold Demand Trend report for the quarter.

Trading currently at Rs 53,140 per 10g, standard gold prices have risen by 60 per cent since January 2019 and 20 per cent since January 2020; income growth or expectation have not kept pace with this.

Ahead of Grand Event, Ram Janmabhoomi Priest Tests Positive for Covid-19 along with 16 Security Personnel.

As Ayodhya gears up for the grand foundation stone-laying ceremony of the Ram Temple on August 5 in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the shadow of coronavirus lingers over the event after a priest and 16 security personnel tested positive for Covid-19.

Pradeep Das, who has tested positive for coronavirus, is the ‘shishya’ of Acharya Satendra Das and is one of the four priests who performs puja regularly at the site.

As per the latest figures of the UP Health Department, 66 people tested positive for Covid-19 in Ayodhya on Wednesday. Till date, 605 people have been discharged from hospitals while there were 375 active cases. Thirteen people have died in the district so far.

India for the first time recorded more than 50,000 cases in one day. A total of 52,123 new cases were recorded on Wednesday, Highest single day jump in the cases so far.
Total number of Covid-19 cases in India is now 15.8 lakh and as per the govt data, 775 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours with a total of 35,000 deaths till now.

The total number of coronavirus cases across the world crossed the 17 million-mark to reach 17,029,155 on Thursday.

Russia aims to approve 'World's First Covid-19 Vaccine' before 10th August: Report

Russia is likely to approve its Coronavirus vaccine for public use in less than two weeks, making it the first country in the world to launch a vaccine against the deadly virus that has killed over 6.5 lakh people globally.

The Russian vaccine developers are planning to complete second phase by 3 August, and will then conduct the third phase of testing in parallel with the vaccination of the medical workers.

Cars, Two-Wheelers Set To Become Cheaper From August With New Insurance Policies

As reported by Indiatimes earlier, starting August 1, 2020, IRDAI will be withdrawing its long-term insurance package plans. With the rule no longer applicable, buyers will not have to opt for long-term motor vehicle insurance of three to five years.

The new mandate brings back the necessary insurance policy of vehicles to the mandatory one-year, own-damage insurance cover. New vehicle owners, however, still need to buy third-party insurance for three and five years for car and two-wheelers respectively.

SHOCKING | Sushant Singh's father KK Singh in his FIR mentioned that Sushant called his sister and told her that Rhea had threatened him to show doctor receipts to the media and would prove him mad. Thereafter, no person would give him work. On June 8 night, Sushant’s secretary Disha committed su***de. Rhea had appointed her as Sushant’s secretary. Later, Rhea blocked Sushant’s number on her cell. Sushant was afraid that Rhea could have made him responsible for his manager’s su***de as she had threatened to frame him in the secretary’s su***de case.”

Sushant’s father, in his FIR said that on June 8, when Rhea found that bank balance of Sushant is going down, she left with cash, jewellery, laptop, credit card, its pin number and password and important documents and doctors’ receipts.

Sushant’s father has expressed his inability to go to Mumbai to fight the case due to his health issues. Therefore, the case was filed in Patna.

BREAKING NEWS | Sushant Singh Rajput’s father, KK Singh, has filed an FIR with the Patna Police, against the late actor’s girlfriend, Rhea Chakraborty.

Sanjay Singh, Inspector General of Patna Central Zone, confirmed that the FIR was registered under various sections, including abetment of su***de.

“A four-member team has been sent to Mumbai. The team will collect case diary and other important documents from Mumbai Police,” Singh added. The case has been lodged under various sections of IPC including 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement), 380 (theft in dwelling house), 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust), 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and 306 (abetment of su***de),” PTI reports.

Veteran actress Kumkum, who appeared in films like Mother India, Kohinoor, Ujala, Ek Sapera Ek Lootera, and Naya Daur, among others, died at the age of 86 on Tuesday. Her death was confirmed by Johnny Walker's son, actor Nasirr Khan on Twitter. The cause of her death is yet to be known.

Sharing two throwback pictures of Kumkum, Nasirr Khan wrote, "Yesteryear's film actress KUMKUM aunty, passed away, she was 86. she did so many films; songs & dances where picturized on her. did so many movies opposite dad (sic)."

In another tweet, he wrote, "2 most famous 1's being & she was the female in the immortal "ye hai bombay mer jaan" song with him. may Allah grant her Jannah. deepest condolences to the family. another gem gone (sic)."

Naved Jafri also condoled the actress's death on Twitter. He wrote, "We have lost another gem. I have known her since I was a kid and she was family, a superb artist and a fantastic human being, innalillahe wa innailaihe raajeoon. Rest in peace kunkum aunty."

A Sigh of Relief for Delhi!
Delhi reported 613 new cases of Covid-19 on Monday, its lowest single day tally in nearly two months.

According to the state health department, only 11,904 tests – 3,821 RT-PCR and 7,685 rapid antigen tests – were conducted in the last 24 hours, against an average of 19,000 tests done between Monday & Saturday. On the previous Monday on July 20 as well, Delhi’s count of cases had fallen below 1,000 for the first time in over a month.

Despite the lower testing, the drop in fresh cases was another indication that the infection curve was flattening in the capital.

The first batch of five Rafale jets on Monday flew out of France and will arrive in India on Wednesday, July 29, following which the jets will officially join the Indian Air Force fleet in Haryana's Ambala

The fighter jets, manufactured by France-based Dassault Aviation, are twin-engine multi-role fighter aircraft. These are nuclear capable and can engage in both air-to-air and air-to-ground attacks.

The aircraft will have to travel 7,000 km to reach India, with stop over at UAE's Al Dhafra Air Base. There will be air-to-air refuelling on the way, sources said.

A time capsule which would contain historical facts related to the Ram Janmabhoomi, will be buried 2,000 feet below the Ram Mandir construction site. This is being done to ensure that there are no more disputes in the future, as told by Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust member Kameshwar Chaupal to news agency ANI.

"The struggle for Ram Janmabhoomi, including the long-drawn case in the Supreme Court, has given a lesson for the current and upcoming generations. A time capsule will be placed about 2,000 feet down in the ground at Ram Temple construction site. So, that in future anyone who wishes to study about the history of the temple, he'll get the facts related to Ram Janmabhoomi, so that no new controversy can arise," Chaupal told ANI.

He also said that the time capsule will be placed inside a Tamra Patra (copper plate) before being placed below the site.

Delhi's COVID-19 recovery rate reached nearly 88 per cent on Sunday, with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal saying the national capital is now in the 10th position among states and union territories as the number of active cases are "steadily" going down. The number of active cases is 11,904 now, against 12,657 on Saturday, 13,681 on Friday, 14,554 on Thursday and 14,954 on Wednesday, according to health department bulletins.

The death toll from the coronavirus infection has risen to 3,827 in the national capital with 21 fresh fatalities and the total number of cases has climbed to 1,30,606 after 1,075 people tested positive in the last 24 hours, it said.

Till now, as many as 1,14,875 patients have either recovered, migrated or have been discharged.

On Saturday, the national capital had recorded 1,142 fresh cases of COVID-19. The total number of cases stood at 1,29,531 while the death toll was 3,806.

Olivia de Havilland, one of the last remaining stars from the golden age of Hollywood, has died at the age of 104. De Havilland's career spanned more than 50 years and almost 50 feature films, and she was the last surviving star of Gone with the Wind (1939).

The film earned her one of her five Oscar nominations.

De Havilland, who has lived in Paris since 1960, was also central in taking down Hollywood's studio system, giving actors better contracts. She also had a tempestuous relationship with her sister, fellow Oscar-winning actress Joan Fontaine.

At the time of her death she was the oldest living performer to have won an Oscar.

Karishma Tanna emerged the winner of Khatron Ke Khiladi 10 beating the other three contestants Karan Patel, Balraj Syal, and Dharmesh Yelande.

Khatron Ke Khiladi 10 finale aired its finale on Colors on Sunday. Hosted by Rohit Shetty, this season was held in Bulgaria but due to the pandemic, the finale was held in Film City, Mumbai. Karishma Tanna emerged the winner of Khatron Ke Khiladi 10 beating the other three contestants Karan Patel, Balraj Syal, and Dharmesh Yelande. Besides the top four finalists, the other contestants this season were Shivin Narang, Tejasswi Prakash, Adaa Khan, RJ Malishka, Rani Chatterjee, and Amruta Khanvilkar.

Earlier, speaking to Times of India, Karishma Tanna, said, “To say yes to this show is quite a task. You have to literally be very sure and calm and you have to have a lot of courage to say yes to this show. Once you say yes, you cannot turn back. The channel kept calling me for past so many years because they had confidence in me but I did not have that confidence in myself.”

“I tried overcoming all the fears and I used to think that I would see other contestants doing this. Today, I am doing these stunts and a part of it. I can’t believe it, talking to Rohit sir and listening to his stunt details and being a part of it”, she added.

With the COVID-19 restrictions of 'Unlock 2.0' ending on Friday (July 31), the government is now formulating guidelines for Unlock 3.0 which will come into force from August. According to reports, Cinema halls, gyms are likely to reopen while schools and metro trains are likely to remain shut.

According to reports, the Multiplex Association of India (MAI) is certain that cinema halls will be allowed to reopen for the public in the next phase of unlock. Earlier the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has proposed the reopening of cinema halls to the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Concern, however, remains about the air-conditioning inside theater contributing to circulation of infected air if even one person is corona positive. Reportedly, Cinema hall owners are in favour of reopening theatres with 50 per cent seating capacity. However, the Ministry has suggested reopening theatres with 25 per cent seating initially and following all the social distancing protocols.

Officials in Ministry of information and broadcasting told CNN News18 that opening up of cinema halls has been proposed. "Yes, a proposal has been sent. The final decision will be that of MHA," an official said.

All the cinema halls across the country have been closed since March 24 when the central government imposed nationwide lockdown in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.

However there is no formal word from the government on reopening of gyms and cinema halls or whether the metros and schools will remain shut.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has declared an emergency after first suspected case of coronavirus has surfaced in the country. The premier convened an emergency meeting of the ruling Workers' Party and adopted a "maximum emergency system" against the COVID-19 pandemic after a defector returned from South Korea with symptoms of the virus, state-media said on Sunday.

During the meeting held on Saturday, Kim also said he took the pre-emptive measure of totally blocking Kaesong after the runaway returned to the border city on July 19 after crossing the military demarcation line, three years after fleeing to the South, Pyongyang's Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said.

"To tackle the present situation, he declared a state of emergency in the relevant area and clarified the determination of the Party Central Committee to shift from the state emergency anti-epidemic system to the maximum emergency system and issue a top-class alert," Yonhap News Agency quoted KCNA as saying.

The meeting unanimously adopted the "maximum emergency system" decision, it said.

BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur on Saturday appealed people to recite the Hanuman Chalisa five times a day till August 5, which she believes will rid the world of the coronavirus pandemic.

“Let us all of us together make a spiritual effort to wish people good health and end the coronavirus epidemic.

Recite ‘Hanuman Chalisa’ five times a day at your home from July 25 to August 5,” the Bhopal MP tweeted.

“Conclude this ritual by lighting lamps on August 5 and offering ‘aarti’ to Lord Ram at home,” she added.

“Though the lockdown will be over on August 4, this ritual (recitation of the Hanuman Chalisa, a hymn in praise of Lord Hanuman) will end on August 5, when ‘bhoomi pujan’ for Ram temple in Ayodhya will be performed. We will celebrate that day like Diwali,” she added.

“When people... Hindus from across the country recite the ‘Hanuman Chalisa’ in one voice, it will definitely work and we will be free from coronavirus...This is your prayer to Lord Ram,” said Thakur.
