With over 10 years of experience, helping 60+ new authors through every step of the writing, editing, & publishing process, our friendly, approachable team has expertise in a wide range of genres. Personally, I am the published author of 14 books having started my writing career in 2011 and I started Mabel and Stanley Publishing in 2021 after a writing and publishing journey that was full of chal

lenges. My mission...I want to be the person that I needed when I started out - helping new authors to grow and share their words with the world without the many costly hurdles (both financial and emotional!) that I experienced. I found it so hard to get reliable, trustworthy advice and I almost gave up - the writing and publishing world is fraught with difficulty and unscrupulous 'experts'. Mabel and Stanley Publishing now has a growing team and is so proud to have helped over 60 authors to share their stories with the world. We've worked with clients from all over the world; from different backgrounds and experiences, including personalities in television and radio.

Writing a book is just the tip of the iceberg. ❄️

What readers see: A finished book on the shelf.

What they don’t see:
✨ Planning – Laying the groundwork for unforgettable characters, compelling plots, and vivid worlds.
✨ Researching – Digging deep to ensure every detail feels authentic and true to the story.
✨ Writing – The late nights, blank pages, and sparks of creativity that bring it all to life.
✨ Editing – Polishing the rough draft into a gem that’s ready to shine.
✨ Rewriting – Because the first draft is only the beginning.
✨ Re-editing – Perfecting every word to make the story unforgettable.
✨ Publishing – The journey to bring your book into readers’ hands.
✨ Marketing – Sharing your labour of love with the world and finding your audience.

Each step is vital in turning a story idea into a masterpiece. So, next time you pick up a book, remember the unseen hours, effort, and heart that went into creating it. ❤️

Is this you every time you sit down to write your business book?

📚 5 Steps to Planning Your Business Book (Without the Overwhelm!) 📚

As a writing mentor, I’ve seen many aspiring authors get overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude of writing a business book. But the secret to success is all in the planning! Breaking it down into manageable steps will help you stay focused, organised, and on track. Let’s make your business book feel achievable—one step at a time! ✅

Step 1: Define Your Purpose & Audience 🎯
What’s the goal of your book? Who are you writing for? Whether it’s helping entrepreneurs, educating small business owners, or sharing your expertise in a particular field, clarifying your purpose and target audience is the first step to shaping your book. Write it down and keep it in front of you!

Step 2: Create a Big Picture Outline 📝
Before you dive into chapters, map out the major sections of your book. Think about the flow of information and how your ideas connect. What’s the logical progression from one chapter to the next? This high-level outline will be your roadmap throughout the writing process.

Step 3: Break Down Each Section into Subtopics 📑
Now that you have your main sections, break each one into smaller, bite-sized subtopics. This will help you avoid feeling overwhelmed by the thought of writing an entire chapter. Instead, focus on one idea at a time, making the process feel much more manageable.

Step 4: Set Realistic Writing Goals 📅
Give yourself achievable writing targets! Whether it’s writing 500 words a day or completing a chapter per week, having clear, measurable goals keeps you motivated. And don’t forget to schedule regular breaks to avoid burnout!

Step 5: Build in Time for Review & Editing ✨
Writing is a process, and it’s important to allow time for revisions. After you’ve finished your first draft, set aside time to review and refine. Editing is where your book truly comes together, so don’t rush through it!

✨ Bonus Tip: Keep a notebook or document handy for new ideas, quotes, or insights that pop up as you write. This will help you stay inspired and avoid losing great material that could fit in your book!

Planning doesn’t just save time—it helps you avoid overwhelm and ensures that your business book is both structured and focused. Ready to start writing? Let’s get to work! 💼✍️

As a writing mentor, I’ve seen it happen time and time again—writers start out with great ideas, only to find themselves lost in a muddle of genres. It’s easy to get caught up in blending too many styles, but the key to effective writing is knowing which genre you’re in and sticking to it—or, if you’re blending, making sure it works seamlessly.

Here are some tips to keep your genres clear and your writing on track:

1. Know Your Genre Inside Out 📚
Research the genre you're writing in. Whether it’s fantasy, thriller, or romance, each genre has its conventions and expectations. Familiarising yourself with these helps maintain consistency and keeps your readers engaged.

2. Understand Your Story’s Core 💡
Ask yourself: What is the heart of your story? Is it the mystery that needs to be solved? The romantic tension? The adventure? Defining this early on helps you stick to the core genre while adding subplots.

3. Stay Focused on Your Audience 🎯
Each genre has a specific audience in mind. Think about what your readers expect and want from your book, and make sure you’re meeting those expectations—while still surprising them with unique twists.

4. Blend with Purpose 🔀
If you’re writing a cross-genre book (like a sci-fi romance or a historical thriller), make sure the genres complement each other. Don’t just throw them together for the sake of it—your plot and characters should fit within both genres in a way that feels natural.

5. Outline Before You Write 📝
Create a detailed outline to keep your genres in check. Planning out key plot points helps ensure that your story remains true to its genre, preventing confusion as you write.

When done right, blending genres can be brilliant—but confusion is the enemy of clarity! Know your genre, stay true to its conventions, and always keep your audience in mind.
