Trooper Johnson is a former US Men’s player, and has also coached at the junior, U23, U25, and Paralympic level. His recent resignation came shortly after his rehiring as the US Women’s coach, after allegations of emotional misconduct flooded facebook and instagram.

In this second installment of our two-part series, we’re diving into the allegations and the protocols that govern how the NWBA treats those allegations. And just as a quick disclaimer, the views expressed in this episode do not reflect the views of it’s creators. I hope you enjoy this episode of the PUSH podcast. Update for all those who voted back in December and are wondering what happened to the podcast contest:

Ultimately, PUSH Podcast was not selected for Tongal x iHeartRadio’s Next Great Podcast competition. We obviously wish there was a different outcome, but we are proud of our semi-finalist title, especially as a podcast that is only 12 months old! Our goal has always been to spread the love of wheelchair basketball across sports media, and your listens and shares, your testimonials of how wheelchair basketball has changed your lives, and the stories of our guests have done that.

So, we thank you endlessly for your support. But now we can move on to Season 2! We can’t wait to bring it to you. 🏀♿️

Thank you Liberal Arts & Sciences at Illinois for the wonderful write-up!

“[Wheelchair basketball] has a significant impact on athletes, sending them to college or giving them confidence after an injury. If we could actually demonstrate that to a wider population of sports fans, I think the impact is unlimited.”

Nearly a year into production, “Push Podcast: Wheelchair Basketball in the United States” is pulling around 750 listeners per episode. With a goal to reach those who have never heard of adaptive sports, College of LAS alumni and former Illinois men’s wheelchair basketball teammates Derek Hoot ...

As the voting period closes, we’d like to take time to thank our family, friends, teammates, and supporters inside and outside the wheelchair basketball community who make this sport so special. We’d also like to show our gratitude to Michelle Phillips at the the Middleton Times-Tribune, Chris Starrs at the Gwinnett Daily Post, and John Loeppky at Accessibility.com for sharing our story with their readers. Lastly, a huge thank you to iHeartRadio, Tongal and The Dan Patrick Show for powering this competition.

Yesterday we thanked our team…today we’d like to thank our families. Nobody plays basketball alone, but wheelchair basketball is a different beast. Equipment and camps are expensive, travel is a constant, and let’s face it…wheelchair basketball players aren’t always the easiest kids 😉 A huge thank you to both our families for having our backs in in basketball and life, including this voting process.

After today, it’s out of our hands and into Dan Patrick’s, Tongal’s and iHeartRadio’s! Let’s make today count!

“‘I wanted to provide a platform for wheelchair basketball players and coaches to share their accomplishments and stories. During my time playing at the University of Illinois, as well as Jordan and Germany, I met so many talented athletes with stories of overcoming adversity and thought, ‘why isn’t there any sports media dedicated exclusively to these kinds of stories?’ At that time, I had been listening to lots of NBA Podcasts like All the Smoke with Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson, or Pull Up Podcast with CJ McCollum, so I already had an intimate player-to-player interview format to model after,’ [Hoot] explained.” Read more below! ⬇️👇

“Hoot and Johnson have the opportunity to take the podcast — and their advocacy of wheelchair basketball — to new heights. Hoot entered the pilot episode of “PUSH” (in which he interviewed five-time Paralympian Matt Scott) in the iHeart Radio’s second annual Next Great Podcast competition, which is also being touted by veteran sports broadcaster Dan Patrick.” Read more below! ⬇️👇
