How influential are Kenyan influencers ?

Kenyans trust friends and personal recommendations more than influencers when making purchasing decisions according to a new study by RedBrick Africa.

The study released last month indicates that 83 percent of Kenyans would buy something recommended online by someone they know personally, higher than 59 percent of Kenyans who would buy a product recommended by a social media influencer.

The research raises concerns over the use of social media Influencers by brands. Latest data Indicates that In 2019, companies around the world spent $6.5 billion on influencer marketing. In 2021, that market is estimated to have grown to $13.8 billion.

Brands were also projected to have spent $15 billion in influencer marketing in the US alone in 2022.

“While influencers are a key component of any marketing strategy, they are not to be utilized in isolation. Influencer marketing is not a magic bullet, there is a need to mix your marketing tactics including using mainstream media, don’t just rely on influencers, have a broader strategy, ” said Mwongera Mutiga Managing Director, Redbrick Africa

Mutiga says brands should seek out, cultivate and groom super users, (sold out to the brand, and promote it without prompting or payment) as they are more valuable than influencers could ever be.

HOW TO RESPECT YOURSELF IN 2023

1...Stop looking for who is not looking for you.
2... Stop begging.
3...Stop saying more than necessary.
4...When people disrespect you, confront them immediately.
5...Don't eat other people's food more than they eat yours.
6...Reduce how you visit some people, especially if they don't reciprocate it.
7...Invest in yourself. Make yourself happy.
8... Stop entertaining gossip about other people.
9...Think before you talk. 80% of how people value you is what comes out of your mouth.
10... Always look your best. Dress the way you should be addressed.
11... Be an achiever. Get busy with your goals
12...Respect your time.
13... Don't stay in a relationship where you don't feel respected and valued. Walk away.
14... Learn to spend money on yourself. That's how people will learn to spend on you.
15... Be scarce sometimes.
16...Be a giver more than a receiver.
17...Don't go where you are not invited. And when invited don't overstay your welcome.
18...Treat people exactly the way they deserve.
19... Except they owe you money, two call attempts is enough. If they value you they will call you back.
20...Be good at what you do.

*_SOCIAL CAPITAL_*

*"There is something in life called “Social Capital.”. The people you know; the people who know you and how they know you.*

Quite unfortunately, people think or behave like social capital is only needed on weddings and burials. That is why you see someone will not have contacted you in ten years but out of the blue they are sending you a message, “Hello so and so, long time. Btw, next Sunday is my pre-wedding. I need your support.”!

*Social capital is not built overnight; it is reciprocal and does not need money (especially in this virtually connected world) to build. It just needs being sensitive that people have emotions and that you can’t sneak into their lives only when you need help.*

Social capital is massively important and when built and used correctly, it can make a very big difference to one’s quality of life. It can save you money, make you money, get you a better job, make things easier and safer, it can save you from prison, or save your life: it can save you time and effort, and make life more enjoyable and productive.

*As we progress to the new year, please learn to connect with people in your circles. Check on people, send someone a birthday message, check their timelines and comment something positive and inspirational. Pick your phone and call someone, or text them. It could be your relative, your colleague, your former schoolmate, a former or current boss, your CEO, your parents etc.*

Creating a connection with people is important for building your social capital. And even if they don’t respond, at least keep in touch and don’t just reach out when you are in need.

*Most importantly, respect everyone no matter their status in life and be there when others need you. Be a solution, an encouragement and inspiration. Avoid being a leech, a user or nagger. Just be a nice person who in a calculated way stays in touch with people and brings joy, encouragement and hope.*

The most important asset you have in life is not your job, money or title; its people. Your network is your net worth"

SUMMARY of What you Need to Know About the HASLA FUND that has been launched by President William Ruto.👇👇

-The repayment period for President William Ruto’s ambitious credit access kitty, Hustler Fund, will be 14 days.

-The fund will offer four different products: start-up loans, micro-loans, SME loans, and personal loans.

-With a 14-day repayment period and an annual interest rate of eight percent calculated per day, a customer who borrows KES500 will pay back KES 501.53 after 14 days, representing KES 1.53 in interest.

-If the loan is not paid back within 14 days, the customer’s credit rating is affected, and they are given an additional 15 days. If the loan is still not paid back, the interest rate increases to 9.5% per year.

-The Hustler Fund account is frozen and the borrower loses all accumulated credit scores after more than 30 days of default.

-There is also no CRB listing, so this default has no impact on the debtor’s credit score with other lenders. The borrower who defaults may pay off the loan all at once or in installments, and after full repayment, they may borrow again.

-When a customer borrows, the approved loan is sent to their mobile money account, deposits 95 per cent of it in their money wallet, and places 5 per cent of it in their savings account.

-The five per cent that goes toward the savings plan is split into 30 per cent for short-term savings and 70 per cent for long-term (pension) savings.

-Kenyans can access the Hustler Fund through a USSD code and mobile app platforms offered by mobile network providers like Safaricom, Airtel, and Telkom.

-The USSD Code is *254 # and will be activated midnight for Kenyans to access the funds.

-In case someone borrows the loan erroneously, the loan cannot be reversed and must be repaid. The loan is repaid through one’s mobile money account.

-Additionally, a customer cannot borrow money using more than one mobile number because the ID number serves as The Hustler Fund’s unique identifier. You must opt out of the registered number if you need to register another one for the Hustler Fund.

-Additionally, savings are secure even if a mobile device is lost because the Hustler Fund account is PIN-protected. Once the SIM card is replaced, access to the account will be restored.

==> The government is expecting 7 to 8 million people who are not in the credit market, who had been locked out due to blacklisting and those who are borrowing at very expensive rates, to be able to borrow tomorrow.
