Congratulations to All New Architects of the Philippines!

Here are some things I want to share with you as you embark on this profession.

First, being an architect, especially in the Philippines, is not a walk in the park. Usually, our profession starts slow especially if we want to build a firm from scratch. Just be patient but be proactive in marketing and making good decisions for you and what you want to be as an architect. If you are already in a firm, try to stay there for a couple of years and build yourself, and then when the time comes, you can build your brand or be part of the firm as an associate.

Second, our profession is not the kind of profession that would make you rich immediately. It is a kind that needs a bit of grit, hard work, and a lot of networking for us to succeed. So, learn to network with people, and tell them who you are and what you are doing. Communicate your passion and advocacy. It is also wise to continue to be friends with your architect peers as they will give you knowledge of the experienced architect.

Lastly, don't give up. Just as how you have not given up on your dream of being an architect. Being successful in the profession requires a lot of patience. Patience towards clients, peers, and other professionals and patience towards yourself. In the end, this character will make you continue and become what an architect you ought to be.

Congratulations to all the new architects!! May you be an inspiration for the Philippine built environment to fly!

Patterns.

Fun Fact: When we see Solihiya Chairs, we think there's only one type of weaving pattern. But guess what? There are so many! The 6way standard weave is just the most common. 😀

The Two Sides of Philippine Design in terms of traditional culture: The Ornate Twin and the Subdued Twin

The Philippines is very blessed to have two sides of design in our archipelago. We have the vivid one with ornate colours and the other one with a more subtle design having monochromatic colours.

Both are wonderful in their own respective sensibilities. The two can both stand alone or can be combined.

Philippine culture is so diverse yet it can be contextualized as two twins that are quite opposite from each other but are similar and identified as Filipinos with a design DNA dating back from ancient times.

Do you know who designed that very nice espalade in Iloilo? It was Paulo Alcazaren, a Landscape Architect from the Philippines. He turned that strip from a place people didn't want to go to, to a place people enjoy.

Interestingly, Christian Bautista, a famous Filipino singer, also graduated in Landscape Architecture from the University of the Philippines Diliman.

While there are no real logical connections to a landscape architect becoming a singer apart from that being he is talented with the music, you might want to become the latter so, here are other schools that you can apply to gain your Landscape Architecture Degree in the Philippines.

Landscape Architecture is a field that involves designing outdoor spaces, such as parks, gardens, and public areas. If you are interested in pursuing a career in this field, Landscape Architecture Schools in the Philippines offer Landscape Architecture programs.

Filipina Architect, an Architecture Show

Hi! Gloryrose here. I'm a Filipina Architect and this is the Filipina Architect Architecture Show. Welcome to my page! We're going to geek out on arki stuff and learn new things along the way.

My goal is to make Philippine architecture and heritage popular through my YouTube channel. We're going to post fun arki stuff on Facebook, too, once in a while. I like sharing how the traditional heritage of the Philippines and cultural identity can be used in modern-day settings.

I believe that one of the keys to making our country great is to show our cultural identity in our built environments.
