I present to you, as my Christmas gift to you this month, a 70s Christmas. Of course, a 70s Christmas wouldn’t be complete without these guys! Look for it in your podcast feed sometime around Thanksgiving. And may the podcasts continue to be a shelter in the storm to those who need it. 💙

The latest episode of FTR70 is in your podcast feed now! In it, I examine the genre of soft rock, although maybe it’s not a genre at all? Whatever it is, thank goodness the members of Jefferson Airplane/Starship survived the 60s to give us “Miracles” in 1975! (Starship in the 80s? Well, that’s a different conversation for a different podcast. 🧐)

Man, this one stings. I’ve been listening to the audiobook of Barbra Streisand’s autobiography & you can tell she has a lot of affection for Kris Kristofferson. What a legend — singer, songwriter, actor, scholar, and veteran. I’m sorry to hear that he has died.

The next episode of FTR70 will explore what some thought was a contradiction in terms — soft rock! AM radio classics, like Sister Golden Hair and Ventura Highway by America, would eventually dominate the Top 40.

We lost a genuine cornerstone of 70s music with the death of JD Souther. He wrote one of my favorite Eagles songs (Best of My Love) and I always liked his solo hit, You’re Only Lonely. Here he is with Emmylou Harris and girlfriend (for a while, anyway), Linda Ronstadt.

Summer break is over and that means it’s time for shiny and new podcast episodes. FTR80 and FTR70 will now alternate months and the latest episode of FTR80 is out now! This episode examines how the PMRC (you remember Tipper Gore, don’t you) gave us warning labels on music and why a song by this young lady ended up on the “Filthy 15.” (And no, it wasn’t “Like a Virgin!” Find it on your favorite podcast app and be sure to subscribe so you don’t miss anything!

Summer break is almost over and that means not one but TWO podcasts are returning! We will start with the 80s, when Mr. Snider — Dee Snider of Twisted Sister — testified before Congress on the issue of warning labels on music. Look for an all new FTR80 in two weeks and from there, I will alternate between FTR80 and FTR70! Yes, 80s music fans, I have heard you loud and clear! đŸ«Ą
