For this project, researchers from Kyoto University in Japan have collaborated with Kajima Construction Company. The team announced plans to develop a ‘glass’ habitat structure with an Earth-like feature to prevent weakening of the human musculoskeletal system in zero and low gravity environments. Glass will also have an Earth-like environment and gravitational forces. This would make it easier to live in space. Under this plan, it will take about 30 years to prototype glass and inter-planetary trains.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday wished speedy recovery to US President Joe Biden, who contracted Covid-19 earlier this week.
“I wish H.E. President Biden speedy and complete recovery from corona,” the premier wrote on Twitter.
The 79-year-old president tested positive for novel coronavirus on Thursday, when the White House said he had developed mild symptoms. His diagnosis came as a highly contagious subvariant of the coronavirus sparked a new wave of cases in the US.
Biden’s physician, Dr. Kevin O'Connor in a memo said that the president’s COVID-19 symptoms continue to improve and now include "less troublesome" sore throat, runny nose, loose cough and body aches.
He said that Biden’s lungs are working properly as his oxygen saturation is excellent on room air.
Biden most likely has contracted BA5 variant, O'Connor said.
"The President continues to tolerate treatment well. We will continue PAXLOVID as planned," he said

The flour mills have increased the price of 15kg flour bag by Rs200 in a week only.
The flour mills owners said that the 15kg flour bag had become expensive due to the high cost of wheat purchased from the open market.
“Earlier, there were stocks of wheat with us, but now we have to buy expensive wheat form the open market,” they stated.
“The 10kg and 20kg flour bags are being sold as per the orders of the government,” they claimed.
“But the price of the 15kg flour bag has swelled by Rs100 in the open market as well as at the chakkis,” they added.
“If cheap flour is provided to the tandoor owners by the government, it will be possible to provide cheap bread to the people,” they pointed out.
The general store owners, on the other hand, said that cheap flour, that had been provided by the government, was available, but the 15kg fine flour bag had become expensive at the stores too

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman impressed upon US President Joe Biden the need for mutual respect and appreciation of each other’s core values, it has been reported by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan in a news conference held in Jeddah the other day.
He reported this upon conclusion of “Jeddah Security and Development Summit” that was attended by leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states, Jordan, Egypt, Iraq, and the United States. The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, King of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia extended invitation for the summit.
Responding a query from a Jeddah-based newspaper correspondent about conversation between Saudi Crown Prince and Joe Biden, the Saudi Foreign Minister recalled that Biden described the killing of Saudi journalist and author Jamal Khashoggi as disgusting.
According to the Saudi foreign minister, the crown prince responded to Biden’s remarks on the Khashoggi affair quite clearly, saying that “this crime, while unfortunate and abhorrent, is something that the Kingdom took very seriously, and acted on in a way commensurate with its position as a responsible country.”

An alarming situation has arisen as markets in the country are short on several essential medicines, including su***de prevention drugs, due to a hike in their production costs — creating fear of an increased su***de rate in the country, The News reported.
"None of the brands selling lithium carbonate are available in the market for the last couple of months," a renowned psychiatrist and former president of the Pakistan Psychiatric Society (PPS) said while referring to the formulation known as the most effective medicine for the treatment of several psychiatric illnesses, including bipolar disorder.
Similarly, some other essential medicines, including methylphenidate for the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children and clonazepam drops and tablets for epilepsy in children and adults, are also not available in the market, physicians and pharmacists said.
Several other psychiatrists at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Shifa International Hospital Islamabad and Mayo Hospital Lahore as well as psychiatrists in Peshawar also confirmed that relatives of patients diagnosed with bipolar disorder were moving from pillar to post for lithium carbonate, but none of its brands were available in the market.
“There are some alternatives to this medicine but they are not effective as lithium carbonate," said Iqbal Afridi, adding that pharmaceutical companies and the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) were requested to ensure the availability of this drug as hundreds of patients are suffering due to shortage of this important medicine.
Another senior pharmacist, Salwa Ahsan, from Islamabad said the medicine lithium carbonate was not available throughout the country, adding that the cost of raw materials had gone up and companies were no more manufacturing them.

According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, Pakistan imported mobile phones worth $1.978 billion for fiscal year 2021-22, compared to $2.065 billion during the same time previous year, representing a 4.19 percent decrease (PBS).
Overall telecom imports into the country climbed by 3.52 percent over the time under evaluation, from $2.593 billion in July-June 2020-21 to $2.684 billion during the same period last year.
According to PBS statistics, imports of mobile phones into Pakistan fell by 76.52 percent month on month in June 2022, totaling $32.221 million, compared to $137.213 million in May 2022.
Furthermore, as compared to $204.677 million in June 2021, mobile phones saw an 84.26 percent negative growth year on year.

WhatsApp had been testing transferring chat history between Android and iOS and today it finally made the full functionality official. So far it was only possible to transfer chat history between ecosystems with the help of some third-party data transfer tools, but these methods usually aren’t free, and they are finnicky to use.

As of the time of this writing, only the Android to iPhone method is up on WhatsApp’s support site, and you’ll need to use the Move to iOS tool on Android to do this. You’ll also need to be on the latest version of WhatsApp on both the sending and receiving devices. You also must use the same phone number as your old phone or change it before transferring. The receiving iPhone must also be factory reset or new.

Based on the steps indicated in the instructions, WhatsApp has worked with Apple to piggyback its Move to iOS app to make a successful transfer of WhatsApp data to a phone on iOS. As per the support page, you’ll be able to transfer account information, profile photo, individual and group chats, chat history, chat media, and WhatsApp settings. You won’t be able to transfer WhatsApp call history or peer to peer payment messages.

Not being able to bring your WhatsApp conversations when switching between iOS and Android has long been a pain point of users switching between ecosystems. Although many messaging apps simply let you access messages and chats from any device, WhatsApp can only be used with a single phone number and with a single smartphone device. Only recently WhatsApp allowed for linked devices to access, send, and receive messages when the host device is offline.

The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has informed the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) about its inability to host the event.
As per Sri Lankan media, the SLC informed the ACC about its decision, maintaining that it is "not in a position" to organise the Asia Cup cricket tournament in the country due to the current political and economic situation of the country.

The Pakistani rupee on Thursday dropped to another all-time of Rs230 against the US dollar in the interbank market.
When the session opened today, the local currency depreciated Rs5.08 to 230 against the greenback, according to the Foreign Exchange Association of Pakistan (FAP).
FAP Chairperson Malik Bostan attributed the rupee’s consistent decline in the last five sessions to “political chaos” and the rise in the dollar’s value in the international market.
In addition, the dollar’s value had risen against over 40 currencies, including the British pound and Japanese yen over the last week, which had affected the rupee in the local market, Bostan explained.
He asked the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) to take strict action against banks involved in “speculation” so the “artificial increase” in the dollar’s price could be stopped.

Neelum-Jhelum hydro-power plant, which is non-operational since July 06, will take six months to restore power supply in the national grid.

The 969 MW project malfunctioned due to blockage in its tail race tunnel. Apparently, it is the geological failure in the tunnel, but the real cause will be traced once the dewatering process is completed, said the top officials of the energy ministry.

However, Wapda insiders told The News that the Chinese contractor CGGC-CMEC (Gezhouba Group), which constructed the project, was engaged. In addition, the water and power authority was also in contact with Stantec - the US-based consultant.

They added that Wapda was in talks with the Chinese contractor for maintenance cost and the modus operandi. “So far, the authorities have initiated the process of dewatering the tail race tunnel of 3.5 kilometres. The dewatering process started on July 10 and from that day it will take 20-25 days to get completed,” sources maintained.

To a question, the officials said since the project is insured by NICL — National Insurance Company Limited, the part of the maintenance cost will be borne through the insurance money.

Neelum-Jhelum hydro-power project was executed at the cost of Rs506 billion and it started functioning from April, 2018 under the deep mountains in AJK where the geology is neither predictable nor readable.

The project is one of its kinds as 10 percent of the dam portion of the project is on the surface and 90 percent is underground with a waterway system comprising 52km tunnels. The project had generated electricity for four years at the cost of Rs9 per unit, but it came to a grinding halt on July 06, 2022 when its important underground tail race tunnel was blocked.

The project envisages the diversion of Neelum waters through tunnels at Nauseri about 41 km upstream of Muzaffarabad and outfalling in Jhelum River near Chatter Kalas in AJK, where the powerhouse is located. The project generates 5.15 billion units annually and has so far contributed 18.2 billion units with annual revenue of Rs50 billion

The Pakistani passport was ranked as the fourth-worst passport in the world again, maintaining its position from last year and providing access to only 32 locations without a visa, the Henley Passport Index for 2022 reported.
The index ranks 199 passports from around the world in accordance with the number of destinations the holder can visit without having a visa.
The ranking was based on data from the International Air Transport Association, which maintained the world’s largest database of travel information. The data was augmented by ongoing research conducted by the Henley & Partners Research Department.
For the 2022 ranking, Pakistan was placed fourth last, ranking higher than the war-torn countries of Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan.
Afghanistan was placed last on the list, with its citizens having access to only 27 countries and the passport having the lowest visa-free score. Holders of Syrian and Iraqi passports could enter 30 and 29 countries, respectively.

The streaming service said it would ask subscribers in five countries in central and South America to pay an extra $2.99 (£2.50) per month to add a "second home" to their accounts.

“Please see the application submitted in name of Dua Zahra. With 12.5 million videos removed, Pakistan ranks second in the world for the largest number of videos taken down from the TikTok platform over violation of community guidelines during the first quarter of 2022.
The world’s leading short-form video platform on Tuesday released its global Community Guidelines Enforcement Report, highlighting that 102.3 million videos were removed globally from the platform, which is approximately 1 per cent of the total uploaded content.
The highest numbers of videos were removed from the United States, ranking first in terms of removal rate.

Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) on Sunday cancelled the strike call given for Monday after the government agreed to raise their margin by 100 percent.
After talks with Dealers Association’s representative Abdul Sami Khan at Pakistan State Oil Office, State Minister for Petroleum Musadik Malik said all the issues were resolved, adding that all the agreed points would be taken to the federal cabinet and implemented once endorsed by the cabinet.
The dealers’ representative chairman PPDA Abdul Sami Khan announced to call off the strike given by the association after successful talks with the government. Although, the government and PPDA did not divulge the agreed points, the sources said government agreed to raise the dealers’ margins by 100 percent from Rs3.5 to Rs7.
As per agreement, the government would raise dealers’ margin in two phases - 50 percent on July 31 and remaining 50 percent on August 15, said the sources. They said though government has agreed to increase the dealers’ margin but it is yet to decide as to who will foot the margin either government or consumers.
It is pertinent to mention the dealers association PPDA had announced to observe strike on Monday by closing down the petrol pumps for raising margin as cost of doing business jumped massively in recent weeks making it difficult for them to operate smoothly.

Earthquake tremors were felt in the country’s federal capital Islamabad, Peshawar, and surrounding areas on Monday.
Reports in local media said the shocks were also felt in different areas of the northwestern region including Waziristan, Malakand, and Swat.
The quake measured 5.4 on the Richter scale, with its epicenter near Wana, the largest town of South Waziristan District in KPK.
People reportedly left their homes and offices in a panic however no casualties were reported.
