In Berkeley Robert met Sanskrit scholar Arthur Ryder. At once the two men became friends & Ryder taught Robert to read Sanskrit, the ancient language of the Hindus.

It didn't take Robert long to master Sanskrit well enough to read the Bhagavad-Gita, or "The Lord's Song."

Of the Gita, Robert Oppenheimer said, "It is the most beautiful philosophical song existing in any known tongue." As a token of their friendship, Ryder presented Robert with a pink covered copy of the holy book.

Robert so cherished the gift, that from that day on, it held a place of honor in his library. Robert thought the Bhagavad-Gita so beautiful that he often gave friends translated copies as gifts.

"The decision to create narratives are not taken by those who vote or their elected representatives, but by a select group of people - usually a homogenous and powerful elite - who assume that they are ordained to fulfil a duty to the nation because they know best, not the masses who merely exercise their right to vote." - Vikram Sood

The one lesson we learn from the freedom movement as a whole is that a religious and cultural awakening in Hindu society has to precede political awakening. The language of Indian nationalism has to be the language of Sanatana Dharma before it can challenge and defeat the various languages of imperialism. The more clearly Hindu society sees the universal truth of Hindu spirituality and culture, the more readily it will reject political ideologies masquerading as religion or promising a paradise on this earth. - Sita Ram Goel

Dr. Vikram Sampath explains that whether Savarkar proposed Two Nation Theory or not. He also explains what Savarkar's definition of Hindutva.

There are two nations as long as, according to Savarkar, there is an larger Ummah, a faith-based brotherhood to which people owe allegiance, and there is extraterritorial allegiance to causes that don't concern India, but countries like Turkey and other places. Till that time, there are going to be two nations.

But once that goes, and once there is this emotional integration, then the two can weld harmoniously. And in fact, he time and time again says that till the time you keep asserting your Muslim identity, I will keep asserting my Hindu identity. The day you drop that, I am a Vishwamanava (universal citizen). I believe in Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (whole world is one family). So I will take 10 steps ahead and embrace you.
