Vibe's Maestro Khan Jamal's "Infinity" features a Stellar line up, a drums and percussion-rich sextet that features altoist Byard Lancaster and a Philadelphia-based rhythm section, Clifton Burton on harmonica and the legendary free drummer Sunny Murray. Khan Jamal contributed four of the five songs, while pianist Bernard Sammul brought in a cooking "The Angry Young Man."

The music stands up to and can be compared to anything released on the great Jazz labels and just like a Classic Blue Note, Prestige, Verve or Impulse release this is an absolute Stand Out Session.

For the London, Tokyo and all points West End crowd the Worldwide Sound is "The Known Unknown" which has been featured on several underground compilations back in the Acid Jazz Heydays of the 1990's, but the whole album is a complete undiscovered gem.

Self released in 1984 and long out of print, original copies fetch $1000 and upwards, so Jazz Room Records are proud and pleased to bring this Spiritual Soul Jazz gem out to a wider audience.

This Friday 7th March marks the release of JOHN LAMKIN -HOT on

The Legendary Chicago Record Store DUSTY GROOVES has this to say: "A mighty hot record from trumpeter John Lamkin – an obscure player who worked the Maryland scene, but one who recorded this fantastic album of jazzy grooves at in the mid 80s! John's got a nice bite on his horn – the kind of crisp, clear approach that Tom Browne brought to his funky work, but with a tone that works equally well when it shifts to mellower tunes too – in a set that features almost all original material, with plenty of great percussion and keyboards in the mix! Instrumentation and recording quality are much more late 70s jazz funk than you'd guess from the date – and titles include the long "Hot" suite, plus "Flower Power", "722", "Ticket", "Maliala", and "Aiya" – which has some nice vocals from Eartha Lamkin."

Back in the Night of the Day at the Jazz Dance hang outs like the Legendary Horseshoe in London's Tottenham Court Road (where the scene was born)
and the Electric Ballroom in Funky Camden Town (where the scene took shape) one record was guaranteed to get the dancers off and kicking.
Terumasa Hino - "Merry Go Round", taken from an LP entitled "Double Rainbow" on Sony Records. It featured a stellar cast of
the Jazz Fusion Movers and Shakers of the day pounding out a Bass Driven Rhythm Express Train that shook up the Jazzfloor Massive by the
scruff of the neck and tumbled them down a Psychedelic Jazz Mountainside.
Not really surprising when you see the cast list: Terumasa Hino, Herbie Hancock, Airto, Don Alias,
Anthony Jackson (who provided that Rock Solid Bassline), Harvey Mason and the writer of the tune, Masabumi Kikuchi.
Cut to a lifetime later and Jazz Room Records had an unexpected best seller with The Takumi Moriya Black Nation version of the Joe McPhee penned "Shakey Jake",
which had also gained a lot of exposure by being featured in an episode of the Cult Apple+ TV series "Severance".
For a follow up why not do something a little bit "Out There"? The original had been featured on a number of DJ Charts in the BBE Records
Book "J Jazz - Free and Modern Jazz Albums From Japan 1954 - 1988" so at Paul Murphy's request Takumi got together some of his favourite Musicians to record
a Heavy Funk Tribute to an all time Jazz Floor Classic. Eight minutes of Defiant Jazz driven at a Psychotic Steam Hammer pace.
