First coronavirus death in India: 76-year-old who died in Karnataka had Covid-19, says state govt
In an official notification, a senior health official in Karnataka government Dr Suresh Shastri said that the lab test has confirmed that the deceased man had Covid-19.

Coronavirus outbreak:

India has registered the first confirmed case of death due to novel coronavirus. A 76-year-old man from Karnataka's Kalaburgi who passed away recently has been tested positive for Covid-19.

In an official notification, a senior health official in Karnataka government Dr Suresh Shastri said that the lab test has confirmed that the deceased man had Covid-19.

"The 76-year-old man from Kalburgi who passed away and was a suspected COVID 19 patient has been confirmed for COVID 19. The necessary contact tracing, isolation and other measures as per protocol are being carried out. Telangana government has also been informed since he went to a private hospital there," Dr Suresh Shastri said.

The same information was also shared by Karnataka health minister B Sriramulu.

A senior Union health ministry official said in New Delhi that the death of the man had visited Saudi Arabia from January 29 to February 29. The official said the man had reached in Hyderabad on February 29 and went to Kalaburagi in Karnataka.

State Joint Director (Communicable Diseases) BG Prakash Kumar said all protocols were followed for disposal of the body.

"The body is disinfected completely and disposed of as per the Government of India guidelines," he added when asked to elaborate on the protocols.

He said the Telangana government has also been informed as the man had gone to a private hospital in Hyderabad earlier.

While announcing the death of the man on Tuesday, the state authorities had said the exact cause his death was being ascertained.

According to the Union health ministry official, "While he was asymptomatic on his return (from Saudi Arabia), he developed symptoms of fever and cough on 6th March. One private doctor visited him at his home and treated him there."

"On 9th March, the symptoms got aggravated and he was shifted to a private hospital in Kalaburagi. In this private hospital, he was provisionally diagnosed as 'mid-zone viral pneumonia' and 'suspected Covid-19'," the official said.

"The sample was collected on March 9... Without waiting for the test results, the attendees insisted and the patient was discharged against medical advice and the attendees took him to a private hospital in Hyderabad," the official said.

The patient was admitted to a private hospital in Hyderabad and treated. He died on Tuesday when he was being brought back to the Gulbarga Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) in Kalaburagi.

Apart from the deceased, Karnataka has confirmed five other positive cases of the novel coronavirus. The fifth case, confirmed on Thursday is of a 26-year-old man who recently returned from Greece.

The patient has been admitted and isolated at a hospital and his condition is stable, a department media bulletin said.

The day also saw the education department declaring summer holidays for students from kindergarten to class six and study leave for higher classes in the city as a precautionary measure.

RUNWAY READY, SPICEJET NOT YET, AAI TELLS HIGH COURT

Courtesy: Summit Times

Airport Director, Airports Authority of India, Pakyong, has informed the High Court of Sikkim that the runway at Pakyong has been sufficiently widened and that the airport is now ready for operation; SpiceJet, however, has not taken any steps to start flight operations.

In an affidavit submitted to the High Court on 03 March, AAI informs that the required widening of the runway at Pakyong airport to 40 meters, to meet civil aviation requirements, was completed in January itself.

Since then, even though the Airport Director has written to SpiceJet the airline has not taken any steps to resume flight operations from Pakyong Airport.

These details were provided to the High Court in connection with the suo moto case taken up by the Court after SpiceJet suspended flights to Pakyong Airport in June 2019 and had issued notices to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Airport Authority of India, SpiceJet Airlines and the State Government enquiring about what was done to prevent suspension of the flights and what plans were in place to resume the service.

Pakyong Airport is a Category 2C airport under Director General Civil Aviation norms and with the latest widening of the runway was now clear for operations.

Now, a division bench of the High Court comprising of Chief Justice Arup Kumar Goswami and Justice Meenakshi Madan Rai has directed SpiceJet to respond within 15 days with its stand on resuming its service for Pakyong Airport.

AAI also informed the Court that it explored introducing Instrument Landing System (ILS) but this was not found feasible hence an alternate Required Navigation Performance-Authorization Required (RNP-AR) approach is being explored with the help of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

The next date of hearing of operation of airport is fixed on 20 March, later this month.

The first commercial flight to the airport was seen on 04 October, 2018 and continued intermittently till 31 May, 2019.

Gorakhpur organizes free chicken mela to shatter coronavirus myths.

The Poultry Farm Association on Saturday organised this Chicken Mela to dispel rumours that the bird is a carrier of Coronavirus.

A full plate of chicken dishes for Rs 30 may sound unbelievable but it was a dream come true for chicken lovers in Gorakhpur.

Vineet Singh, president of the Poultry Farm Association said that people had stopped eating chicken since the past one month, due to fear of Coronavirus.

“We organized this Mela where we invited people to eat chicken. We wanted to tell them that Coronavirus is not caused by eating chicken, mutton or fish. We cooked over a thousand kilograms of chicken for the Mela and the entire stock was finished,” he said.

The Chicken Mela, held in front of the Gorakhpur railway station, proved to be a major crowd puller and left all roads leading to the railway station blocked for hours.

Tripper launches a SIM-free Global WiFi Hotspot rental device
The WiFi hotspot device has been designed to automatically latch on to a local network of the country the user is travelling to.
Addressing connectivity concerns of users travelling abroad, Mumbai based Tripper Technologies has introduced a new SIM-free WiFi rental device in India. This WiFi hotspot device has been designed to automatically latch on to a local network of the country the user is travelling to. Tripper claims to offer unlimited data access on up to five devices simultaneously. Available in Mumbai and nearby areas to start with, Tripper plans to other cities in the coming months.

Tripper WiFi support networks of over 130 countries and is divided into four zones. For the KYC, users will need a valid passport with the e-ticket and/or visa for the particular destination.

Manish Bagadia, Co-Founder & Chief Operating Officer, Tripper Technologies says, "With IoT increasingly becoming a part of our lives, the introduction of Tripper WiFi for travellers was only a matter of time. Our technology works in a way that the IoT device automatically latch on to the best available local network provider of whichever country/ countries user(s) are travelling to. As it is a SIM-Free device, there is no requirement of purchasing local SIM cards of any country/ countries nor pay for the expensive roaming packages being offered by other service providers in India. It is a multi-operator network device, thereby allowing the user(s) to experience seamless connectivity across 130+ countries."

The company explains that Indians travelling abroad often come back to find massive bill shocks because their usage tends to fluctuate while on a trip and they end up paying an unexpected and large bill. With Tripper Wifi offering unlimited data access, consumers will be able to customize packages by even opting for a per-day basis cost, whatever the number of days maybe. "There is 100% transparency without having to worry about how many GBs or hours they are accessing data for," adds Bagadia.

Before the official launch, Tripper floated their rental devices with over 1000 people in the beta stage. It also took the company considerable time to collaborate with network providers from over 130 countries.

Other than individual travellers, Tripper believes that corporates can also rent the Tripper Wifi device and save big on international business trips. Corporates will be given access to an API/ Dashboard to activate/deactivate the devices at their disposal, as per their requirement.

Growing consumer hunger for data, desire to stay connected 24x7 globally and increasing international travellers from India is fueling demand for International roaming services. The market for International roaming in India is pegged to be upwards of Rs 4,400 Cr and is growing at 15 per cent CAGR.
