Not often do we think of wonder as an essential gift, let alone a weapon.

But it’s both of those things.

🙏 Wonder embodies the child-like faith that refuses to cower before circumstance.

❄️ Wonder is a gift from a loving, intentional Father Who knows that without living in wonder of Him, the winters of our souls become hopelessly barren when they would otherwise be ablaze with preparation and hope.

⚔️ Wonder is a sword that cuts through the lies that tell us faith is pointless, childish, and weak.

🌳 Wonder reminds us that our strength and hope are rooted in Christ alone.

And when we surrender and let that kind of wonder and faith be forged in our hearts, it changes everything.

🎠 This is one of the reasons I wrote Penelope Grace and the Winter Carousel. It’s perfect for fans of Narnia and cozy, winter fantasy tales.

I hope you’ll join me in celebrating its release on February 26th!

What’s the best book dedication you’ve ever read?

❄️🎠

My mom inspired my first novel — a cozy, winter tale — and I couldn’t dedicate it to anyone else.

She is a remarkable woman, and if I have anyone to thank for my sense of wonder, it’s her 🩵

Are you prepared for some fictional Christmas mischief?!🎄

“Now, Penelope,” he asked with a knowing smile, “what excuse will I give for you this year? The Gardeners will be devastated by your absence. They so enjoyed the mock sword fight you incited amongst the children three Christmases ago.”

Penelope laughed, remembering how she and her friend, Charlie, had been shocked to discover that their Christmas crackers were actually swords.

Even more horrifying, the Gardener’s dog was a terrifying beast threatening the well-being of the guests. It had been quick work to convince all the children that they must defend the Gardener’s home.

Soon enough, they were charging through the house, to the confusion of everyone present, and the extreme alarm of the Gardener’s unlucky Spaniel.

“Do they still talk about that?” she asked in mock innocence.

“With great fear of reprisal,” her father replied, a mischievous gleam in his eyes.”

Convincing you to join my ARC team, the Storysmiths, with a line from Penelope Grace and the Winter Carousel ❄️🎠

This is the last line from the prologue, and it’s one of my favorite things that I’ve ever written.

I wrote this story after we lost my grandpa to a long battle with Dementia and Parkinson’s. We were losing our sense of wonder in the midst of grief, and it made the holiday season feel impossible to celebrate.

This story is my way of honoring my mom, Penelope, and my grandfather, John, as well as the bond they shared.

It’s my way of reminding myself and readers that wonder is a sword that can cut through even the deepest grief.

If this resonates with you…

if you love stories that are a perfect blend of whimsical and epic…

if you need a little extra comfort and courage this winter…

Apply to join the Storysmiths at the link in my bio.

Applications close Dec. 31st at midnight.
