🎙️ New podcast episode! 🎧 Two years ago this month we published our first episode of this podcast. It is entitled “Why We Believe.” In it, we shared some of our main reasons for having faith in Jesus Christ and believing in His restored gospel. A lot has happened in the last two years, so we thought it would be worthwhile to talk about why we still believe, and how He has been with us through the ups and downs since that first episode. Please share this with whoever it could help! ❤️

Thank you for sharing, subscribing, and reviewing our podcast!

The Gospel or “good news” of Jesus Christ is something we all want and need. But what does that look like in real life? Jason and Allison Bell will help you see the gospel in new, relevant ways through insights from scripture, prophets, and the experiences of everyday people.

There’s probably no one on the planet that embodies Santa — and everything he represents — more than Eric Bell. Today, Jason’s Dad, Eric joins us on the podcast post-Christmas as he reflects on yet another season of “becoming Santa” and spreading the joy of the season to all he meets.

Eric has been Santa for more than 15 years and has truly grown into the role in some powerful ways, especially as it has brought him closer to and more like our King, Jesus Christ. We know you’ll enjoy listening to him as he tells his story, shares his testimony, and motivates us all to “become Santa” as we reflect the true light of Jesus year-round.

We have some very special guests on the podcast today: Allie’s parents, Craig and Laurie Brewster!

Allie has her parents to thank for instilling within her a deep love of Christmas. In this episode, we talk about her parents’ favorite childhood traditions, some cherished family memories, and why we absolutely believe in Santa Claus.

Craig and Laurie also remind us that it all ultimately comes back to remembering the Savior. Everything about this season can point us toward Him.

We hope you enjoy this one. Merry Christmas! 🎄

J. Reuben Clark Jr. once said, “We get nearer to the Lord through music than perhaps through any other thing except prayer.”

Today we have a special episode that we sincerely hope speaks to your heart. We’re talking about the power of music to help us hear and feel the Lord.

We’ll share some of our favorite songs (including Christmas songs) and a few fond memories that are tied to them.

We also have a big fun favor to ask you at the end, so go ahead and fast forward if you don’t want to listen to the whole thing!

Thanks for listening and sharing. We love you!

In the New Testament, the apostle Paul counsels his disciple Timothy to “fight the good fight of faith.”

Today, we’re breaking down what this verse means to us — and why the fight for faith in Jesus Christ on a daily basis is absolutely worth it.

Here’s to the pig farmer in all of us.

President Nelson said, “... Saints can be happy under every circumstance. We can feel joy even while having a bad day, a bad week, or even a bad year! My dear brothers and sisters, the joy we feel has little to do with the circumstances of our lives and everything to do with the focus of our lives.”

Today we thank you for being with us, listening, and reaching out, especially in response to our last episode, “Healing.” We also emphasize and discuss the true JOY the gospel brings us, even in challenging or unfair circumstances. It’s been an amazing time of growth, peace, and joy for us and we can’t wait to share some of our experiences with you.

Today we’re getting about as vulnerable and personal as we’ve ever been on the podcast.

Just over a month ago, we went through something really hard and sad — and we’re still working through it. Thankfully, we’re not doing it alone.

We’ve learned so much and have so many things and people to be grateful for. Mostly, we’re grateful for the continued healing that comes through our savior Jesus Christ.

This one is for anyone out there who’s currently feeling “the weight of mortality.” We’re with you!

Everything’s going to be all right.

It’s our 10th wedding anniversary today! 🥳

To celebrate, we’re looking back on some fond memories (and maybe some cringey ones, too) from the past decade together. You’ll learn (probably more than you ever wanted to know) about our single lives, dating days and the very unique ways we stole each other’s hearts.

You may laugh, you may cry, or you may feel slightly nauseated — just don’t say we didn’t warn you.

(If you’re crunched for time, skip this episode entirely and just go listen to Elder Holland’s talk, “How Do I Love Thee?” That’ll pretty much sum it up.)

If you’ve ever wondered if it’s possible to feel God’s spirit and love in an atmosphere that doesn’t seem conducive to it, this is a story you need to hear.

Katelyn Vance is a former seminary/current institute student of Jason’s who joined the United States Army Reserves shortly after graduating high school in 2020.

In this episode, Katelyn takes us through what it’s like to go through the rigors of basic training, calling it “the most spiritually enriching time of my life,” which she knows may seem ironic. She shares how this was possible, how she gained a deeper testimony and appreciation for the gospel, and how “freedom is of Christ.”

You will absolutely fall in love with this girl as you hear her recount her experiences and amazing spiritual insights. We felt a strong commitment to be better human beings after chatting with her.

Please give this one a listen and be sure to share it with your friends!

🎙️New episode today! 🎧

Since becoming the prophet and president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, President Russell M. Nelson has emphasized the importance of calling the Church by its correct name.

In the October 2018 General Conference, President Nelson said, “To remove the Lord’s name from the Lord’s Church is a major victory for Satan. When we discard the Savior’s name, we are subtly disregarding all that Jesus Christ did for us—even His Atonement.”

But there’s another reason why we should intentionally use and say His name regularly: His name has power.

In a 2019 address to seminary and institute teachers, Elder Ronald A. Rasband of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles said, “Try just saying the name 'Jesus Christ' in a perilous setting with one who has lost hope. Just calling upon Him by name, with reverence, can make a difference in a difficult moment.”

This is something we’ve experienced for ourselves and today we’re talking about it.

Thank you for listening — and we hope you’ll talk about Jesus more after you do!

🎙️New episode today! 🎧

From Palm Sunday to Good Friday, a lot changed.

People went from shouting “Hosanna!” and laying their garments at Jesus’ feet to yelling “Crucify him!” and spitting in His face.

Why?

He was the Messiah — but not the one they wanted.

They wanted the Jesus who fed them fish and bread. The one who healed the sick and lame. The one who would certainly lead them out of bo***ge from Roman rule.

But that wasn’t what He came to do. He came to free them from a much bigger chain: death and hell.

In this episode, Jason and Allison talk about “the Jesus we really need” — and how Easter is the perfect time to remember that, through Him, anything is possible.

Episode 35: Hearing Him Through Trials

Every single one of us has (or will) go through heart-wrenching trials that will make us question what we really believe. If God loves us, why would He let awful, unfair things happen? How could so much suffering be part of His plan of happiness?

We don't pretend to have all the answers and we certainly don't want to downplay the heartache and pain that anyone might be going through. Some trials really are "infuriatingly unfair." You might wonder if God is really there or if He cares about you at all.

Though it might not feel like it, we believe these are the moments when heaven is sending out concourses of angels on your behalf. If you're currently dealing with something difficult, this podcast won't fix everything for you — but we hope it points you toward the One who can.

Episode 34: Our Responsibility to Seek Truth

In a 2013 talk, Dieter F. Uchtdorf said, “The thing about truth is that it exists beyond belief. It is true even if nobody believes it.”

All of us have a responsibility to seek truth in this life. The scriptures teach, “you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:32)

But it can be hard to discern between real truth and things that may be only partially true — or even blatantly false.

Today, we’re going to talk about what truth is, why it matters and how searching for it is worth every effort.

We hope it encourages you to follow “the way, the TRUTH and the life” Himself: Jesus.

In case it was hard to tell, we’re pretty passionate about the gospel of Jesus Christ. We believe He lives. He loves us. He knows our pains, sorrows, sins and weaknesses. He wants to help us. He brings out the best in us. He can work miracles in our lives.

But coming to know Him takes effort — and the adversary would rather you didn’t even try. Contentment, complacency and apathy are some of his most effective weapons for keeping us away from the source of all Truth and light.

If your faith is feeling a little dim, we have some ideas on how to fan the flames.

In 2018, President Russell M. Nelson said, “We’re witnesses to a process of restoration. …If you think the Church has been fully restored, you’re just seeing the beginning. There is much more to come. … Wait till next year. And then the next year. Eat your vitamin pills. Get your rest. It’s going to be exciting.”

Some of those exciting changes include updates to temple ceremonies that we believe are pointing us even more toward Christ.

Today, we’re sharing our recent experience in the Bountiful Temple — and why we think you should schedule an appointment ASAP.

Have you ever felt weighed down by your own weakness?

Does it sometimes feel like nothing is going right despite your best efforts?

Do you beat yourself up for your mistakes?

If so, we’re right there with you. It’s been one of those weeks. (Just listen to the sound quality of this episode!)

When the shame attacks hit, it helps to remember a popular verse in the Book of Mormon:

“And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them.” (Ether 12:27)

Tune in to today’s episode as we dive deeper into the soul-stretching process of confronting our personal demons/weaknesses — and how the Lord helps us do it.

In his job as a seminary teacher, Jason has had the privilege of teaching thousands of incredible teenagers over the years — but today’s guest *might* be responsible for single-handedly inspiring him to stick with it when he almost jumped ship.

We got to sit down with Maddy La Fleur, a former Brighton seminary student/current institute student of Jason’s whose preparing to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Brazil very soon and…WOW. Trust us when we tell you that her story is going to blow your mind.

Maddy talks about what it was like taking her little brothers to church by herself as a young teenager (a decision that would ultimately lead her own parents back into church activity), her deep love of the temple, and her abiding faith in Jesus Christ. She shares her spiritual highs and lows and reminds us all that “we’re never alone.” We hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

Episode 25: “God really knows me”—A Conversation With Maddy Fisher

Today is a really special episode of the Peace of Living Podcast because we welcome our first amazing guest: Maddy Fisher!

Maddy is a former Brighton High School seminary student and has also been attending Jason’s weekly institute class. We were lucky enough to sit down with her before she heads back to school at Southern Virginia University and hear her amazing testimony about the temple, the Savior and feeling God’s love amid difficult life challenges.

Maddy is living proof that today’s youth are phenomenal — and we think you’ll feel pretty optimistic about the future after hearing her story.

What made Mary, the mother of Jesus, someone worth emulating? Though we don’t worship her in our church, we do honor, respect and love her for the role she played in raising the Savior of the world.

In this episode, we talk about why we love Mary, what we can learn from her, and what made her “exceedingly fair.”
