We ALL have a relative like Matthew Oxendine. Who’s been in trouble with the law a few times and struggles with addiction and mental health issues. We want you to picture the person you love when you listen to this episode. On January 9, 2021, Matthew called 911 and hung up. 911 called back and Matthew alluded to harming himself. But instead of an EMT, counselor, or a police officer trained to deescalate people struggling with their mental health (which the county has), someone else was sent out: A SWAT team with AR-15s in a tactical vehicle that they used to ram Matt’s vehicle before shooting at him more than 40 times. His cousin watched as this happened while his brother listened on the phone. Why was a SWAT team sent to a suicidal man? Why have no charges been filed? How can the family ever heal?

Donald Wayne Davis was a good looking Lumbee man living in Hamlet, NC who had just signed four modeling contracts (including with Coca Cola and Tommy Hilfiger) and was scheduled to head back to Atlanta to begin working. One Tuesday, he was stopped by police for not having on a seatbelt. Minutes later, he was dead. The medical examiner said he died of natural causes but his body was bruised and his bones were broken. How does a routine traffic stop end in a 20 year old man’s death?

This is one of the most unbelievable cases we’ve ever covered and it is graphic, so we encourage you to listen with caution and to take care of your spirit.

We are beyond words and so overwhelmed with a sense of peace and justice that an arrest has finally been made. Please keep Faith’s family in your thoughts during this time.

Faith Hedgepeth, 19, was found brutally murdered in her off-campus apartment in 2012. No one has been arrested.

215 children. 215 momma’s babies, daddy’s worlds, grandma’s hearts. 215 Native children. A few weeks ago, a mass grave was found outside of the Kamloops Indian Residential school, which was ran by the Catholic Church in Canada until 1978. Native children were forced to go to these schools. They were starved. R***d. Beaten. Forced to cut their hair, speak English, and not be Indian. This school is just one of many in Canada and the US, and the last one didn’t close until 1996. Tune in now to learn more about these schools and click the link below that we mentioned in the episode:

Today is National MMIW Awareness Day, and in honor of this day and this larger movement, this week’s story is about Katina Locklear, a Tuscarora mother, grandmother, and sister. Katina was murdered by her own friends over $100 that was misplaced by the owner, but later found.

When a life is worth only $100 dollars to someone, when our bodies are left out in the woods like trash, when our families are left to mourn these murders...What won’t someone do if they’d do this?

Part 2 of our series covering the 3 murders and 2 disappearances in East Lumberton:

The day after Rhonda and Kristen’s deaths, Megan was interviewed by the local news. Just six weeks later, her body was found outside an abandoned house 2 blocks away (0.2 mile) from where the first two women were found.

Cynthia Jacobs is rumored to be the last known person to see Megan alive. Cynthia went missing right after Megan was found. She has not been seen since 2017. Another woman went missing from the same area just 3 months later. All 5 cases remain unsolved. There is a total of $55,000 in reward money for anyone who can help provide answers about these deaths and disappearances.

Listen now for details into these cases as well as additional information about Kristin Bennett’s death, including evidence being destroyed at the medical examiners office.

In March 2003, Michelle Driggers was found dead in the driveway of a rural cemetery in Hestertown, NC. She was naked and her body had been brutalized. Just months later and less than a mile away, Lisa Hardin was found dead in the woods behind a business, also naked and brutalized. Both women were referred to as “prostitutes” by police and in the media despite other contradictory reports. Both women have still received no justice. And I’m 2017, the bodies of 3 other women were found in the same areas as Lisa and Michelle. Is there a serial killer in Lumberton targeting vulnerable Native women?

On Valentine’s Day in 2016, 23 year old Evelina Dial had been missing for 2 days, when she was found in the woods in the community she grew up in. She had been stabbed 45 times and burned. Just a few weeks prior, her 3 year old son had died from a gunshot wound. Years later, another murder would strike her family, just as violence had also nearly claimed the life of her grandmother many years before. Why is there so much violence in Robeson County? Why are our women not safe in their own homes?
