INTO THE WORLD OF FUJOSHIS AND FUDANSHIS
BL (Boys' Love), also known as Y**i, is a male-male romance genre commonly found in manga/manhwa/manhua/anime. It is also gaining popularity in Asian dramas. I became a fan of this genre not too long ago. It all started during the pandemic in 2020 when I was confined to my home with limited activities, such as watching TV, browsing the internet, or reading books. I had probably binge-watched all the animes that interested me when I stumbled upon my first Y**i anime.
It was "Junjou Romantica." To be honest, it wasn't all that great. The art style wasn't fantastic, and the story was very typical of this genre: Yandere seme, helpless uke, enemies to lovers. You might be wondering, "Why stick to it if it wasn't that good?" My answer might amaze you even more. "I don't know! But the dynamic relationship between the uke (bottom) and the seme (top) had a certain pull on me."
Since then, I have delved into the depths of this uncharted universe, slowly getting hooked on it. Sometimes, I would spend late nights lying in bed, giggling to myself while reading webtoons and mangas on my phone. Other times, I would sit in front of the computer with a silly look on my face, and my husband would say, "You're reading/watching BL again, aren't you?"
I'm glad that my hubby and son are quite supportive of my newfound interest, even though neither of them shares the same enthusiasm. However, I'm still reluctant to reveal this interest to others, fearing that they would find it strange. Let's face it; it's not a genre for the so-called "normies." Many people still have prejudice on this kind of stories.
Creating this page is my way of proudly declaring myself a Fujoshi! I want to share my passion for BL with other BL lovers and hopefully encourage non-BL lovers to experience what it truly feels like to be a Fujoshi or a Fudanshi. The truth is, it's something difficult to explain—you have to experience it firsthand.
