Today is the 82nd anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day is a day to reflect on the 2,325 sailors, soldiers and Marines, and 68 civilians we lost that day. Another 1,178 people were wounded, and today there are only a few veterans remaining who are Pearl Harbor survivors. In 2016 The Greatest Memories podcast interviewed Fred Johnson, Macon's last remaining survivor of Pearl Harbor. Four years later Mr. Johnson passed away at age 104. Mr. Johnson's story is archived on the Middle Georgia Podcasts channel, and you can click the box below to download it or listen to it. And may we never forget the greatest generation, and the "date that will live in infamy."

Fred Johnson was Macon's last Pearl Harbor Survivor when he passed away on January 31, 2020 at age 104. We had the privilege of interviewing Mr. Johnson in 2016. On the 80th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack, we are presenting Mr. Johnson's story, in his own words.

This is the 53rd anniversary of the 2nd Atlanta International Pop Festival, better known in Middle Georgia as the "Byron Pop Festival." For the 30th anniversary in 2000, GMS Productions put together a syndicated radio special that included interviews and music. 3 years ago that special was updated for the pop festival's 50th anniversary, and published as a podcast. Because of copyright and licensing restrictions we could only use short clips of the music. That podcast is still available and is the third-most popular single episode (non-series) on the Middle GA Podcasts channel. To listen or download just click the box below.

Jim Garland passed away on June 8 at age 96. About seven months before his passing, we interviewed Mr. Garland about his service in the U.S. Navy during World War II. That interview was edited for a 5 minute segment that originally ran on The Greatest Memories podcast. But here is his story in more detail, posted today on the Middle GA Podcasts channel.
