*A constitutional court has indefinitely adjourned a matter in which the office of the Registrar General was dragged to court for refusing to register Nyasa Rainbow Alliance, back in 2017.*

The matter, certified as constitutional by the chief justice in 2018, was expected to be heard from 26-30 September this year by a panel of three High Court judges.

The registrar rejected the application on grounds that the penal code criminalizes s*x between same-s*x persons in Malawi and that members of the alliance engages in such unlawful practices.

Lawyer for NRA, Chikondi Chijozi, finds it frustrating that her clients are yet to have their day in court, five years on, and failing to advocate for rights of LGBTIQ+ persons in Malawi.

Spokesperson for the ministry of Justice, Pilirani Masanjala, under whose ministry the office of Registrar General operates, says they will wait for a new date to be set by the court.
