Meet Aurora James —the founder of the Fifteen Percent Pledge and Creative Director and founder of the luxury accessories brand Brother Vellies ! ✨
She established the Fifteen Percent Pledge in June 2020, a non-profit advocacy organization that works with retailers to diversify their shelves and pledges 15% of their purchasing power to Black-owned businesses, with the goal of bridging the racial wealth gap. Since then, The Fifteen Percent Pledge has appeared on Forbes, Fast Company, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, CNN, and Vogue. Approximately 20 significant companies signed The Fifteen Percent Pledge within the first year, effectively channeling over $5 billion in funding to Black business owners in the United States.
From what started as an Instagram post, the Pledge has now worked with approximately 30 major companies under Aurora's leadership, including Macy's, Nordstrom, Sephora, Ulta Beauty, and more. As a result, Aurora was named to the 2020 Bloomberg 50 and the 2021 TIME100, as well as receiving the Founders Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America! 🙌🏽✨
