Hello

As many of you who may have followed both this page and my Facebook group UK & IRELAND SEA ANGLERS WILL now know that the Facebook group UK & IRELAND SEA ANGLERS is no longer and has been closed down.

This page will now remain the sole hub for myself which I will hope to now update regularly.

I will aim to run competitions via this page
Continue to help support kids through my rehoming rods program and also try to raise money for charity via small raffles.

Going forward I would also like to arrange some local meets for people from the page to meet others and fish.

I openly invite anyone who wishes to to send in catch reports and pictures (either freshwater or sea) of fish you have caught via message to myself that we can then post via this page to hopefully turn it into a shared community space.

Huge thanks to all who support the page πŸ‘

Fished Pevensey Bay area - East Sussex, last night was a pretty last minute session trying to fit some fishing in between work and the bands of rain!

Quick call to cliff and we set off, the bait we used was some bits and piece I russled up from the dark depths of my freezer consisting of some worms, box of squid an old mackerel and some razor fish.

The plan was to fire out penneled squid on my airpower gtr rod and then using the airlyte rod fish in close with a pop up rig small size 4-6 hooks scratching around with a rolling lead.

We fished the tide down to low then back up two hours.

Not much on the ebb tide at all just some little taps here and there which I left and came to nothing.

The flood tide produced some nice bass for cliff biggest being 42cm and he lost a decent one close in which we was gutted about.

I was just waiting - sitting on my hands hoping something would happen!

Then I started thinking and I cast my airlyte to a spot where the waves broke over what I believed to be a sandbar or gulley to my right a beach down, this time I was using a two hook flapper with a blue grip lead baited with razor fish on both hooks.

I turned round to have a chat with cliff and he got another bite, then out of nowhere my reel screams off and the tip starts dancing in the rod rest followed by a lovley slack line. I reeled into it and bang we was on, after a lovley battle on the airlyte (man what a rod that is!) a lovley bass of 52cm was landed being I think my biggest bass on bait so a new pb! I have had bigger bass into the 60s on lures but nothing above mid to late 40s on bait.

All in all a good night

I did ditch the braid as most of you know I have been using braid straight through for a long time and it's past it's date by far now needs reversing back onto the spools if anything!

I used the Akios/inova silk mono red line in 15lb with the taper tech leader

Man the stuff is like feeling in air its that smooth and glides through the rod eyes perfectly

The leader knots down so small too

Deffo may be converted back to mono after that session.

If you haven't got an airlyte - get one or 2 and thank me later!

Things have been pretty quiet for me over the last few sessions I have managed to get out locally.

However the sunrises and the feeling of being energised before work on these early morning sessions make up for the lack of fish!

However I did manage a bass which was cool!

Think it's nearly time to switch over to the lures for summer, I have a few new things I want to try this year so hopefully all goes to plan.

A tale of two halves from sadness to pure joy!

So after long thought I retired my pair of stunning akios Utopias as you can see from the first picture I was very sad :( they had been fantastic rods and caught me a fair few fish over the last 2 years of owning them.

However time for a change and I'm looking forward to hitting the shingle with my new soon to be pair of Airlytes :) (back to happy face! Pic 2)

Anyone have a Airlyte rod?

What do you think of it?

Or more so what have you caught with it?

The one type of rod I was missing from my selection was a close in bass type rod so glad I have filled in the missing space πŸ‘

Cheers Tony Kirrage top man 😎

THE DONGLE RIG?!

So as always keen to try new things....

Over the last few month I have been playing around with this rig and variations of the rig and was keen to find out from others there experiences with it and how you fish with it also.

So for me I have been mostly using the rig with a single varivas 5/0 circle hook and a split ring as shown in the pic, because for the life of me I can not tie the perfection knot for πŸ’© lol!

I have been using squid baits and prawn not tried it with crab yet but will do so eventually.

I have had takes using the rig which have been I would say have been quite aggressive followed by short runs on the reel but when picking up the rod and winding into the fish nothing?

Is my dongle piece of braid too long?
Is my bait too big?
Is my hook size too big?
Do I need to wait a bit longer before I go for it?

Have all been questions I have asked myself

Switch back over to a pennel and I seem to catch again?!

Is it a confidence thing and I'm just confident in the bottom hook being present.

What are your thoughts?

I have tried the split ring version
The hair tied version as shown by Robbie on the group and shop tied perfection knot dongles.

Let me know what you think as it would be ace to learn from others.

So after a weeks of hard graft and not much free time to get fishing. I decided enough was enough and I had to get back out on the shingle!

With previous weeks sessions been pretty poor and the lingering may rot I wasn't too hopefull of catching much or anything at all!

Armed with my akios Airpower black edition and my akios gtr rods paired with my r10 reels I headed down to the shingle at Eastbourne.

The plan was to fish one rod at distance on a pennel rig using the Akios Tamerz 3/0 hook pattern with whole squid to target hounds and the other to fish a little closer in on a three hook flapping rig baited with small worms tipped with razors and squid.

After the first few casts it was evident that a strong tide current was forcing our lighter leads to be pulled right round so a decision to fish just the one rod and up the lead size on that for the Remainder of the evening was made after no initial reaction to the scratching rig.

A few hours passed with nothing at all to show between the 5 of us who was out it wasn't looking hopefull!

Then a few strong pull downs followed by that lovely noise we all long to hear of the reel ticking away I knew we had hit the target.

After a small battle I managed to pull in the first fish of the night which was my initial target and I was pretty chuffed.

Nothing of amazing stature but after a few sessions of blanks I was happy, and the first smoothound of the year was ticked off nicely hooked with a great hook hold provided by the tamerz hook.

Nothing much else happened tbf with a small bass being landed by one of the lads with us and that was followed by a bigger smoothound by my mate Peter towards the end of the night.

No further fish for myself which was a shame.

After having used the Akios Gtr rod for a good month or so now I have to say I'm really enjoying using it, I'm by no means a big caster or heavy hitter but I think overall my casting distance is improving with it which is great. I love that it's pretty smooth in the cast and that paired with the glass tip shows the bites really clear and positive.

Hopefully as the season continues and the may rot filters out, I will be able to catch more fish it.

Do you know what to do if you get into trouble in the water this summer? Float to Live:
Tilt your head back and submerge your ears.
Relax and try to control your breathing.
Move your hands to help you stay afloat.
It’s OK if your legs sink, everyone floats differently.
Once you are over the initial shock, call for help or swim to safety.
In a coastal emergency, dial 999 or 112 for the coastguard.
