I wrote this well before Pete Carroll's exit yesterday.
I admire his style of leadership and hope to be a creator of space that is built on connection and our shared humanity.
I was never a bandwagon football fan. I grew up on Sunday afternoons, as young as five years old, listening to my father tell me about the details of football plays and how it all worked. My favori…

“If you’ve been up all night and cried until you have no more tears left in you – you will know that there comes in the end a sort of quietness. You feel as if nothing was ever going to happen again.” C.S. Lewis
The rain pelts my office building, casting darkness too early even for the Pacific Northwest. Hot, hot, summers gave way to hope for long, semi-warm fall days. My flowers wilt in the shadows with me.
At some point I wander in. I don’t want to see anyone. Puppy at my side, I am alive, alone. A friend notes these dragging shoulders. That’s new, I think. I light candles.
Empty space has weight, too, I whisper. Emails fill my inbox of “What we should do and what we shouldn’t” and “What does this or that mean?” Or, “Do we file a lawsuit? Do we appeal to a corrupt school board?” Questions circle above and in between my work hours.
How do we pretend that we believe the lie? I shout to everyone.
Our participation in delusions has long worn off.
Like Edmund, we ate the Turkish delight offered by the system, relying on their forms, processes, hoping thier procedural laws built to oppress us would do something other. Our stories cemented in stones, the scars on our skin, un-dead, and un-done.
A CALL TO ACTION
Questions to Email the District (email provided below):
What is your policy of saying the "N-word" in Spanish"?
What is your policy for using slang in Spanish equivalent to the "N-word" by teachers and students?
Do you allow your Spanish speaking staff to use "necessary" language including these slang words, which are culturally known to be the equivalent as the "N-word" or degrading?
Do you allow English teachers to use the "N-word" or the "B-word" to refer to African Americans or Mexicans in English class? Are these necessary terms in North Kitsap School District?
I ask the North Kitsap School District these questions, and I encourage you to do the same. Please email Rachel Davenport, Executive Director of Human Resources, and ask her for the answer to these questions. Her email is [email protected] .

Michelle Obama says, “When they go low, we go high.” My dear African American colleague reminds me that supremacy creates a false dichotomy of the choices you have in a scenario – creating false equivalencies which are rarely true.
These unconscionable crimes are committed in clusters. This isn’t new. First Florida, now this. The wave is cruel. Each community, each county, each city can center themselves in self examination, and check ins with family, friends, local law enforcement, city councils. As Poulsbo knows, it can happen anywhere.
Consider calling your Mayor, attending your local city council and contacting the law enforcement in your area to not only check in, but ask that they are working hard towards non violent engagement with community.
Thank you.

Often trauma survivors hold themselves responsible for all or part of the harm they have experienced, which sets them up for being shaped and driven by the burden of responsibility for their own harm resulting in shame and self-contempt.
Naming the particularity of the harm people have experienced, including: the responsible person, any co-conspirators, the motives of the harm and intentionality, brings much needed freedom to the survivor.
If helping professionals are not this thorough, they risk the trauma survivor living with a life sentence and paying for a crime they didn’t commit. This false conviction steals life, agency and freedom from the survivor.
May we all come to step into our stories of harm and tell a truer story of what we experience and have others help us see what we needed to do to survive those moments. May we all have people in our lives that help us see the goodness in how we needed to make it through painful and at time unbearable situations. May we grow in our capacity to offer ourselves self-compassion.

And this week you're going to listen in on a conversation between myself, Rebecca Wheeler Walston, and TJ P**n. We're all part of a project we've been working on together for over a year now. And, and as part of that project, we're exploring the Latinx experience in, in this time. And so what, what we're doing in this conversation is kind of fleshing out, like, what does it mean to have an intercultural conversation in with the primary lens of Latinx culture?

(As a side note, you may see Maggie is absent and I look tired. That’s true. Our lives oddly intersected over the past weeks as we both lost a Grandma, and it’s been hard. We still love podcasting because it gives life and these conversations nourish us, too. You may just notice more wild hair, darkened eyes at times, one of us absent, and honestly bright smiles. Repost from @thearisepodcast • Dream Work W/ Jen Oyama Murphy "Dreams are God's Forgotten Language" John Sanford, Jungian analyst & Episcopal Priest “I believe dreams are parables co-authored by our unconscious and the Spirit for ourselves, to ourselves, and about ourselves. Throughout Scripture and history, across cultures, and in many sacred traditions, dreams have offered guidance, insight, healing, balance, connection, and greater integration and wholeness. A Statement on Sexual Assault in Kitsap County High Schools A Statement on Sexual Assault in Kitsap County High Schools In response to the sexual assaults both on campus and off campus in Kitsap County High Schools, we wanted to issue a statement and support for the students, families and community members who are working diligently to change the culture that accepts sexual assault and harm. Our county is known for turning a blind eye to sexual assault in many systemic contexts, including the following: faith communities, education systems, and more. We believe that the change of this culture starts in the home - where we teach our sons and daughters about consent, the right to say NO at any point in a sexual encounter, and the right to be believed when harm does occur. @nkschools @storiedlifecoaching @luisdaniellecastillejo #stopsexualassault #nkallday

Randy says Critical Race Theory is the current “bugaboo” and it is endemic of all the other right wing, white supremacist reactions to People of Color coming into their own and the popularization of the unjust deaths of members of the BIPOC community. Social media has done a lot to inform people but in our [BIPOC] communities, people have been dying unjustly for hundreds of years. “There’s nothing different it’s just people are finding out about it now.” It’s important, Randy believes, that as we are learning [about the unjust deaths], that what we are finding is that all the systems and our country were founded in white supremacy. Randy acknowledges that there are other things behind that, including the Western worldview and patriarchy, but he says the white supremacy that founded the systems in our country—education, economic and social systems—are all bent towards the benefit and privilege of white males. “So the system itself has not really changed a lot; it looks a little more kinder than it used to under enslavement or genocide but the idea is still the same:
