The Aetas called the Agta is the only Cultural Minority here in Bicol Region. They live in distant and secluded places, along the hills, forest or islet, in a miserable condition. A big percentage of the elderlies are illiterate. Knowing them for more than two decades now, shy and poor as they are yet I find them amazing. It is heart breaking to witness and to know the reasons why they are in such living conditions.
First and foremost, my objective to Save their Vanishing Culture is thru Education and Food Production. My only means is providing basic education for the Pre-schoolers and limited help in agriculture. However, their distances in school and hunger cause their children to be absent in school. In addition, the constant strong typhoons that always hit Bicol Region and the Pandemic contributes to their sufferings due to the loss in agriculture.
Yes they endure hunger silently, yet they never frown nor complain.
I am just so grateful that at last after so many years, it is just now that they themselves had the strength of featuring their lives, their old culture which I personally consider as the TREASURE of Mount Isarog.
