Ordinary can be extraordinary and we see this with self described “ordinary mum from Botany” Rachel Smith.

“This is actually bigger than you and your worries Rachael. There are people that have more concerns than you do. You have a pantry you could probably eat out of for 6 months. There are people that have nothing in theirs”.

Those are Rachael’s words…..to herself.

From a life dominated by self while battling Extreme Health Anxiety, she turned things around to focus on others.

How did she do this? What was it that made her transform life’s worst to doing life’s best?

She set-up “Pantry 4 the People” to feed the poor and hungry and in turn change lives with love, hope and inspiration.

“I’ve done an awful lot of therapy and I really needed to think further than my own little circle. I didn’t think it would be as rewarding as it has. I just hope it’s here forever because there will always be people in need“.

Rachael’s simple idea has become a life-changing force, adopted by schools, supported by business, and embraced by others in their own communities.

“When we arrived at Auschwitz there were SS guards waiting with dogs. They just pushed us out of the train and immediately separated the men from the women. I saw my father for the very last time”.

Those are the words of Olga Horak, who was 17 when she was “collected” by the N***s in Czechoslovakia in 1944 with her parents and grandmother and taken to Auschwitz.

Most of us know about the Holocaust through books, photos and movies.

Most people know Ron Wilson as the long-serving presenter of 10 Eyewitness News in Sydney and now the voice of Afternoon/Drive news on Sydney’s smoothfm 95.3.

“We put all the mattresses into the middle bedroom. We were under the mattresses, my Dad was under the house, and we stayed there until dawn the next day. This cyclone was just incredible!”

Ron Wilson walks us through the day when Mother Nature threw her absolute worst at life as he new it. The power, terror and destruction of Cyclone Tracy resulting in the loss of homes and lives was overwhelming.

Jane said “It was like the sister I never had” Tracy says “we were always together… and if we weren’t we were on the phone!… it was just a deep connection”

ONE IN SEVEN WOMEN, WILL GET BREAST CANCER.

“Trace, does my b**b look a funny shape to you? she took my hand and placed it on her breast and it was like a smack in the face… and time stood still.”

The wife of Test cricketer Glenn McGrath had been diagnosed with Breast Cancer at 31. At the time Tracy was married to Test cricketer Michael Bevan. Together, Jane and Tracy began a mission to ensure every woman fighting Breast Cancer had access to their own Angel.

“Today I met an Angel, a Breast Care nurse. I know what we need to do Trace. We’re raising money for Breast Care nurses”

These were Jane McGrath’s words to Tracy Bevan in 2003 and the McGrath Foundation began.

In 2006, Jane’s condition deteriorated. Tracy recalls her words:
She said “Don’t give up on me Trace”. I said “I’ll never give up on you”. I promised her no matter what, I would continue the work of the McGrath Foundation.

Jane died at the age of 42. Tracy’s promise continues and today there are 165 Breast Cancer nurses across Australia.

Tracy opens her heart and allows us deep into her relationship with Jane and how, side by side, they turned life’s worst… into doing life’s best.

“For me, the most difficult, the most distressing impact was the loss of our volunteers and the three American air crew who were simply trying to do their very best to save and protect as many people as they could”.

Former NSW Rural Fire Service Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons led the State through the horrific and unforgettable Black Summer bushfires of 2019-20.
