History professor Allan Lichtman has correctly predicted the winner of each presidential race since Ronald Reagan's reelection victory in 1984 using his "13 keys" system.

In an interview with CNN, Lichtman was definitive in his answer: "The keys predict that Donald Trump will lose the White House this year."

Lichtman bases his prediction on a model of "13 keys" that can be answered as either true or false for any given election. The "13 keys" in his system include factors such as the economy, incumbency, social unrest and scandals, as well as the candidates' personal charisma.

When asked if the key model could account for something as cataclysmic as the Covid-19 pandemic, Lichtman remained confident. "Look, retrospectively and prospectively, the keys go all the way back to 1860. They are what we call a robust system. So, I don't fiddle with them. They've lasted through enormous changes in our politics, in our economy, in our democracy. Don't fiddle with the keys," he explained.

Although Lichtman has been predicting elections since 1982, he explained that he still feels the same amount of pressure every four years. "I'm 73 years old," he said to CNN. "But every time, without fail, I get butterflies."

One remarkable young Nigerian girl managed to defy the odds and was recently hired by a school in the United Kingdom to teach others about coding.

Emmanuella Mayaki is a 10-year-old coding and programming prodigy who recently received her first job at the Southfield Primary School in Coventry, England, as the after school coding club teacher.

According to Face 2 Face Africa, she will be responsible for teaching other kids her age about the basics of coding including HTML and CSS. The school selected her for the job because of her extraordinary skill and knowledge in the area.

Mayaki’s passion for technology started at 7 years old, where, in another two years she would obtain a diploma with a specialty in multiple software programs including Advanced PowerPoint, Desktop Publishing, and Advanced Excel. She is still actively learning other coding languages and programs to expand her knowledge even further.

“Today, my Academy App among others is already on Google Play store where I pass on knowledge of coding and graphics. I remember at age seven, I set a target to become a professional web designer and analyst at age nine, and I have accomplished it,” she added. “In the first week, I was pretty nervous because I had never taught a group of children. Although, my experience was sublime because I gained experience and I also enriched my skills. My observations were that not everyone grasps how to do it on their first try and there are some that they rush through it in a breeze.”

Reuters| Germany’s Siemens (SIEGn.DE) has decided to let its employees work from wherever they want for two or three days a week, in the latest example of how the coronavirus is making major companies re-think how and where their staff work.

The Munich-based trains to industrial software maker said its board had approved a new working model which will allow employees to work from where they are most productive, including at home or from a co-working space.

“The aim is to enable employees worldwide to work on a mobile basis for an average of two or three days a week, whenever reasonable and feasible,” Siemens said in a statement.

“These changes will also be associated with a different leadership style, one that focuses on outcomes rather than on time spent at the office,” said incoming Chief Executive Roland Busch.

Technology companies such as Twitter Inc (TWTR.N) have been taking the lead on a permanent shift that is gaining traction in other industries as firms seek cost reductions or employee convenience – or both.

Siemens, which is the first large German company to make permanent changes to how it organises how staff work, said the new model will apply to more than 140,000 employees at around 125 locations in 43 countries.

The founder of Slum2School, Otto Orondaam, has proffered a very big solution to the problem of learning in this period when children are forced out of school by the coronavirus.

He announced his organisation has made it possible for 948 kids to learn remotely with their first Virtual Learning Classroom in Africa.

Otto said his aim is to reach 10,000 kids during this season. Impossible is really nothing.

A member of the Canadian Armed Forces has been arrested after a black pickup truck crashed through the gates of Rideau Hall and drove up the path toward the official residences that house Gov. Gen. Julie Payette and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Thursday morning.

RCMP said charges were pending against the man, identified as Corey Hurren, a reservist on a full-time contract with the Canadian Forces.

Hurren’s Linked-in profile shows he is the owner of GrindHouse Fine Foods in Bowsman, Manitoba.

In a statement, the Defence Department said: “The Canadian Armed Forces is collaborating closely with the RCMP. As the RCMP is the lead investigative body for this matter, it would be inappropriate for us to comment further at this time.”

Mounties apprehended the man shortly after a vehicle broke through the Thomas Gate around 6:40 a.m.. The impact with the gate disabled the truck and triggered the vehicle’s airbags.

An RCMP officer then “began dialogue with the suspect,” the force said, while its National Division Emergency Response Team was sent to the scene, arriving shortly after 7 a.m. The man was arrested without incident just before 8:30 a.m and taken into custody.

Neither the prime minister nor the Governor General was on site at the time of the incident.

The PM Boris Johnson said Hong Kong's freedoms were being violated by a new security law and those affected would be offered a "route" out of the former UK colony.

About 350,000 UK passport holders, and 2.6 million others eligible, will be able to come to the UK for five years.

British National Overseas Passport holders in Hong Kong were granted special status in the 1980s but currently have restricted rights and are only entitled to visa-free access to the UK for six months.

Under the government's plans, all British Overseas Nationals and their dependants will be given right to remain in the UK, including the right to work and study, for five years. At this point, they will be able to apply for settled status, and after a further year, seek citizenship.

A new strain of flu that has the potential to become a pandemic has been identified in China by scientists.

It emerged recently and is carried by pigs, but can infect humans, they say.

The researchers are concerned that it could mutate further so that it can spread easily from person to person, and trigger a global outbreak.

While it is not an immediate problem, they say, it has "all the hallmarks" of being highly adapted to infect humans and needs close monitoring.

As it's new, people could have little or no immunity to the virus.

A church in Berlin has opened its doors to Muslim worshippers unable to fit into their mosque under new social distancing rules.
Germany allowed religious services to resume on 4 May but worshippers must maintain a distance of 1.5m (5ft).
As a result the Dar Assalam mosque in the city's Neukölln district could only hold a fraction of its congregation.
But the Martha Lutheran church in Kreuzberg offered to help by hosting Friday prayers at the end of Ramadan.
Even the church's pastor took part in the service.
"I gave a speech in German," said Monika Matthias. "And during prayer, I could only say yes, yes, yes, because we have the same concerns and we want to learn from you. And it is beautiful to feel that way about each other."

Former Ghanian President J.J Rawlings advise Nigerians. In his statement he said, I can't believe that despite the setback of Nigeria as a result of failed British experiment on that country, Nigeria is still very in love with them.

Nigeria has everything it needs to be the greatest country not just in Africa but in the world and the British knew about it.

There are two things that can salvage Nigeria:

The first is Nigeria must peacefully retire these old colonial leaders who are still servants to western Imperialism.

The second is Nigeria must restructure their country back to the days when it was regional system of government.

Let every region develop at its own pace, build its resources and people.

With this, that country called NIGERIA will be the greatest hub for the people of color in the world.

This important economic measure provides a 75% wage subsidy of up to $847 per employee per week, to eligible employers, for up to 12 weeks, preventing further job losses and encouraging employers to re-hire workers previously laid off as a result of COVID-19, retroactive to March 15, 2020.

Five men are suspected of being involved in a $2-million online dating scam in Regina. Saskatchewan RCMP have arrested and charged one man, and a Canada-wide warrant has been issued for the other four.

In January of 2018, a complaint was filed with RCMP about a person using someone's name in a fraudulent online purchase.

RCMP say an 18-month investigation led them to more than 50 bank accounts and FSOC identified five suspects living in Regina at the time of the crimes.

Austin Newton, 28, is charged with fraudulently personating someone, fraud under $5,000, fraud over $5,000 and possession of the proceeds of crime.
He will appear in court on April 21 by video.

Kelvin Awani, 24, Jonah Eigbuluese, 22, Joshua Ometie, 25, and Clinton Newton, 27, are wanted on a Canada-wide warrant.

Police determined the five individuals have ties to what is believed to be a larger international criminal organization involved in defrauding victims of a combined total of over $2 million through online romance scams over the past two years

RCMP believe these men could be anywhere in Canada, and anyone with information about their location is asked to contact local police.

13/04/2020

As of April 12, 2020, Saskatchewan has seven new confirmed cases and two new presumptive cases of COVID-19, bringing the total to 298 reported cases.

Of the total number of reported cases, 130 cases are considered active.

Seventeen more people have recovered, bringing the provincial total to 164.

The presumptive positives are due to more testing machines being added in Saskatchewan.

A new machine to test for COVID-19 is online at the Roy Romanow Provincial Laboratory (RRPL). The first 10 positive specimens identified by the new machine must be considered presumptive positives and require confirmation using RRPL’s existing machine.

In addition, Meadow Lake has started testing and these cases are considered presumptive positives until confirmed by the RRPL.

A discussion between two top French doctors on live TV left viewers horrified when they proposed that Africa should become a giant laboratory for coronavirus vaccine testing because the continent lacked the resources to defend against COVID-19 since there are no masks, no treatment, nor intensive care."
One of them, Jean-Paul Mira, even compared Africans to prostitutes who were the focus of past AIDS studies. "We tried things on prostitutes because they are highly exposed and do not protect themselves," he said.
Several of Africa's leading soccer players, including the former Chelsea star Didier Drogba and the former Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o, also tweeted their anger.
Drogba, who is from Ivory Coast, tweeted: "It is totally inconceivable we keep on cautioning this. Africa isn't a testing lab. I would like to vividly denounce those demeaning, false and most of all deeply racists words."
"Welcome to the West, where white people believe themselves to be so superior that racism and debility become commonplace," tweeted Ba, who is from Senegal. "Time to rise."
On Thursday, there were more than 6,700 confirmed coronavirus cases and 229 deaths in Africa, with many countries imposing a range of preventive and containment measures against the spread of the pandemic, according to African health officials.
France alone has logged 59,105 infections and 5,387 deaths.

Several police departments across the country are asking criminals in tongue-in-cheek social media posts to stop illegal activity during the coronavirus pandemic.
Police in Ohio, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Utah and Washington have called on criminals to take a break to allow officers to respond to coronavirus-related issues.
The Salt Lake City Police Department, for example, requested in a post on Facebook last week that "all criminal activities/nefarious behavior to cease until further notice."
"We appreciate your anticipated cooperation in halting crime & thank criminals in advance," the department said. "We will let you know when you can return to your normal criminal behavior."
"We are unsure when this ban will be lifted," the department said in a Facebook post. "We ask anyone who was planning to commit any crimes to please stay home for their safety."
Authorities also requested those who have information on "someone planning to disobey this cancellation to contact Crime Stoppers."
A police department in Oregon also asked residents to stop calling 911 because they ran out of toilet paper. "It's hard to believe that we even have to post this. Do not call 9-1-1 just because you ran out of toilet paper. You will survive without our assistance,"

Two more people have died from COVID-19 in B.C., provincial health officials announced Friday.
Sixteen people have now died from the novel coronavirus in the province.
“We are saddened to report two more deaths as a result of COVID-19 in the Vancouver Coastal health region. Our condolences to their loved ones during this difficult time,” reads a release from Dr. Bonnie Henry and Minister Adrian Dix.
The province recorded has 67 new cases, bringing the total up to 792.
275 people have now recovered and are no longer required to self-isolate, while 73 are in hospital.
Health officials are warning against gatherings of any size, at any time and encouraging people to stay connected online.
The latest numbers came with a new public health order, banning vendors who do not sell food from setting up stands at markets.

The City of Vancouver has suspended the business licence of a local Tim Horton’s franchise for violating health orders amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The Tim Hortons at 108 W Pender Street was found violating the provincial health orders limiting the number of people allowed in a restaurant leading to the suspension.
The suspension is authorized by section 277 of the Vancouver Charter, because the failure to comply is considered to be ‘gross misconduct,'” reads a statement from the city.
Property use inspectors have also checked more than 5,800 restaurants and 1,000 personal care facilities since March 20 to ensure public health orders are being followed to stop the spread of COVID-19.
People have been reaching out to the city through the 3-1-1 line which has taken in at least 80 complaints regarding businesses ignoring provincial orders. Most of the complaints were about restaurants while the rest were about personal services like salons, which have been ordered to close by the provincial health officer.
Violating the orders under the State of Emergency bylaw in Vancouver can lead to fines of up to $50,000. The city has not issued any fines yet.
She explained the number of coronavirus cases was at 24 per cent a day, but that rate has fallen to 12 per cent .

The Nigerian government has approved a 10 billion Naira grant (about $27 million) to fight the spread of coronavirus, or COVID-19, in the country.
According to a statement from President Muhammadu Buhari, the money will be released to Lagos State, Nigeria's commercial center, which has the highest number of coronavirus cases in the country.

"This grant will enable Lagos increase its capacity to control and contain the outbreak, while also supporting other States with capacity-building," President Buhari said in a tweet.
Nigeria currently has a total of 83 confirmed COVID-19 cases including 52 in Lagos and 14 in Abuja, the country's capital city.
The NCDC, the country's leading national public health institute, has been at the forefront of the coronavirus pandemic, collating numbers and responding to suspected cases of the virus.
Wealthy Nigerians, banks, organizations and members of the private sector including Femi Otedola, Abdulsamad Rabiu, Herbert Wigwe, Segun Agbaje and Aliko Dangote, Africa's richest man, all contributed 1 billion Naira (about $2.7 million) each to support the government and help fund medical centers and provide essential materials necessary to curtailing the spread of coronavirus pandemic in Nigeria.
Travel restrictions have also been put in place to keep potential carriers of the virus from high-risk countries out of Nigeria.
All international airports and land borders are to be closed for four weeks to prevent further imported cases into the country.

At the same time, the federal deficit could spike to $113 billion by the next fiscal year.
The current federal deficit sits at roughly $26.6 billion while the national unemployment rate in February was 5.6 per cent.
The coronavirus pandemic sweeping the globe could send Canadian unemployment rates soaring to 15 per cent by the end of the year, a new forecast by the parliamentary budget watchdog suggests.
Globally, there are now 549,604 cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus, with the U.S. leading the number of cases.
A total of 24,863 people have died so far from the virus.
In Canada, the number of confirmed cases stands at 4,018 and the number of deaths at 39.
Widespread shutdowns are in place across Canada, with Quebec and Ontario limiting business operations to “essential” functions only and ordering all others shut down.
There are also bans in place on gatherings ranging from between 10 to 50 people, and the government on Wednesday invoked the Quarantine Act to mandate all returning travellers going forward stay in isolation for 14 days.
But sectors like retail, tourism and the airline industry are feeling the brunt of the impact, with hundreds of thousands of layoffs reported across industries and over 500,000 people applying for Employment Insurance last week after it was opened up more broadly by the government.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has tested positive for coronavirus and is self-isolating but will still lead the government's response to the outbreak.
"Over the last 24 hours I have developed mild symptoms and tested positive for coronavirus," Johnson said.
"But be in no doubt that I can continue, thanks to the wizardry of modern technology, to communicate with all my top team to lead the national fightback against coronavirus," he said in a video message posted to Twitter.
The prime minister was tested for coronavirus on the personal advice of England's Chief Medical Officer, Professor Chris Whitty
Johnson's announcement comes two days after it was announced that Prince Charles, heir to the British throne, had tested positive.
So far, 578 people in the United Kingdom have died after testing positive for coronavirus and the number of confirmed cases has risen to 11,658.

Saskatchewan has 18 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the provincial total to 44 as of Saturday.
The province has now reached 25 confirmed cases and 19 remaining presumptive cases.
All current cases are people 20-years of age and older, with the exception of one, which is still under investigation. Sixty-five per cent of these cases are men, while 35 per cent are women.
Of the 44 cases in the province, 11 are connected to a curling bonspiel in Edmonton, attended by 50 to 60 western Canadian healthcare workers.
While there are currently no confirmed cases of community transmission in Saskatchewan, the province is still investigating three cases.
The Roy Romanow Provincial Laboratory (RRPL) in Regina now has the ability to confirm COVID-19 cases through laboratory tests. Tests were previously sent to Winnipeg for confirmation.
The RRPL is processing around 456 COVID-19 tests per day. The lab has processed 3,188 COVID-19 tests since March 14.
Mandatory self-isolation following international travel is now law in Saskatchewan after the announcement of six more COVID-19 cases on Friday.

Social distancing has left a lot of Canadians temporarily without work. Luckily, Dollarama is hiring during the COVID-19 outbreak.
Dollarama announced that it would be staying open amid the various store closures to continue to serving people.
The company also said that they anticipate hiring "thousands of Canadians" during this time to keep up with increased demand caused by the worldwide pandemic.
Anyone who is looking to pick up some extra work during this time can apply directly at their local store.
Dollarama is taking additional steps similar to other stores like Sobeys and Shoppers Drug Mart to ensure the health and safety of their customers and employees.
These include limiting the hours that stores are open in order to allow more time for cleaning, sanitizing, and restocking.
Walmart Canada also announced that they would be hiring thousands of people in associate positions to help keep up with demand.

A special Air Canada flight has landed in Montreal, bringing 444 Canadians home from Morocco as borders shut down around the world amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The airline announced on Friday that it would fly an aircraft with 450 seats out of Casablanca to Montreal.
All Canadians on the flight also underwent a health screening prior to boarding.
The federal government has a program where loans of $5,000 per person are available to those overseas. The funds can be used for flights and accommodations.
Canadians registered with the Repatriation of Canadians Abroad program had received an email Friday outlining the cost of the flight, which was $1,272 plus tax per passenger, with tickets open to Canadian citizens and permanent residents only.
On Saturday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said travel restrictions in place around the world mean not every Canadian would be able to come home immediately.
Meanwhile, WestJet says it has 34 repatriation flights planned to bring home Canadians from around the world between March 23 and 25.
