Ep. 13 - The Legion of Decency - Part 3 - The Last Days
Hey everyone! We are back with another episode and the finale to our Legion of Decency Trilogy. The last few years of the Legion of Decency and the Production Code in Hollywood have events that shaped many stars' careers. In this part 3, we review the last 2 episodes and focus more closely on 2 key players in the PCA. One is Joseph Breen and the other is Mae West. We talk about both their careers and show them together in this timeline.
In part one of this three-part series, we covered a movement that was sparked due to a Howard Hughes movie. In Part 2 we discuss the repercussions of Howard's fight against the state's censors. We talk about the Catholic Church's influence and what led way to the era of the Breen. (Star Trek reference) You will learn how this influence affected movies that we know and love today like Casablanca.

This is a scene in the movie "Casablanca". It is one of my favorite scenes from the film and really brings both character's to light. Peter Loree and Humphrey Bogart were great actors and played well together. I have to say "I am a little impressed" with them. I hope you enjoy the share of this colorized version of Casablanca.
Al Bowlly was a vocalist and jazz guitarist, who was popular during the 1930s in Britain. He recorded more than 1,000 songs.
His most popular songs include "Midnight, the Stars and You", "Goodnight, Sweetheart", "Close Your Eyes", "The Very Thought of You", "Guilty", "Love Is the Sweetest Thing" and the only English version of "Dark Eyes" by Adalgiso Ferraris as "Black Eyes" with words of Albert Mellor.
On 16 April 1941, Bowlly and Messene had given a performance at the Rex Cinema in Oxford Street, High Wycombe. Both were offered an overnight stay in town, but Bowlly took the last train home to his flat at 32 Duke Street, Duke's Court, St James, London. He was killed by a Luftwaffe parachute mine that detonated outside his flat at ten past three in the morning.
My mother loved him and introduced him to me when I was in my 20s. I always love listening to him on Monday mornings.
